ISO7241MDW Présentation
Digital isolators are components that transfer digital signals across an isolation barrier while preventing DC current flow and rejecting common-mode noise. They are essential in systems where safety, noise immunity, or ground potential differences exist between circuit domains. The ISO7241MDW uses a silicon-dioxide (SiO2) isolation barrier, which offers high reliability and long-term stability. It is part of the ISO7240x/ISO7241x/ISO7242x family of quad-channel isolators, which provide various channel configurations and output-enable functions.
Key features of the ISO7241MDW include a low channel-to-channel output skew of 1 ns maximum, low pulse-width distortion (PWD) of 2 ns maximum, and low jitter content of 1 ns typical at 150 Mbps. The device operates over a wide supply voltage range of 3.0 V to 5.5 V on both sides, and it is specified for the industrial temperature range of -40°C to +125°C. The output-enable function allows the outputs to be placed in a high-impedance state, facilitating bus-oriented applications.
The ISO7241MDW is designed for high-speed signal isolation in applications such as industrial fieldbus communication, motor control, power inverters, and isolated SPI/UART interfaces. Its high CMTI ensures reliable operation in noisy environments, and the 2500 Vrms isolation rating meets basic insulation requirements for many industrial standards. The device is RoHS compliant and lead-free, supporting environmentally conscious designs.
When designing with the ISO7241MDW, it is important to provide adequate decoupling capacitors on both supply pins and to ensure proper PCB layout to maintain signal integrity and isolation performance. The device does not require external components for the isolation barrier, simplifying the design. For applications requiring higher isolation or different channel configurations, other members of the ISO724x family can be considered.

Motor Control and Inverter Drives
In motor control and inverter drives, the ISO7241MDW provides isolation between the microcontroller and gate driver circuits. Its high CMTI (25 kV/µs) prevents false triggering due to fast switching transients from IGBTs or MOSFETs. The 150 Mbps data rate supports high-frequency PWM signals, while the 3/1 channel configuration allows for three forward control signals and one reverse feedback signal. The wide temperature range (-40°C to +125°C) suits harsh industrial environments.
Recommandé
Isolated SPI/UART Interfaces
The ISO7241MDW is well-suited for isolating SPI or UART interfaces between microcontrollers and peripheral devices. Its 150 Mbps data rate easily handles SPI clock speeds up to 50 MHz, and the 3/1 channel configuration matches typical SPI (MOSI, SCLK, CS forward; MISO reverse) or UART (TX forward, RX reverse) signal directions. The low pulse-width distortion (2 ns max) ensures accurate data transmission, and the output enable function allows bus sharing in multi-drop configurations.
Recommandé
Power Supply and Battery Management
In power supply and battery management systems, the ISO7241MDW isolates the control circuitry from high-voltage power stages. It can be used to transmit PWM signals for DC-DC converters or to isolate communication between battery monitoring ICs and the main controller. The 2500 Vrms isolation rating provides protection against voltage spikes, and the high CMTI ensures stable operation in the presence of switching noise. The device's low power consumption is beneficial for battery-powered applications.

Notes de conception
For optimal isolation performance, maintain a minimum creepage distance of 8 mm between the input and output sides on the PCB. Place the isolation barrier under the device and avoid routing copper traces across the barrier. Use a solid ground plane on each side, but do not connect the grounds together except through the isolation barrier. This ensures the 2500 Vrms isolation rating is maintained.
Decouple both VCC1 and VCC2 with 0.1 µF ceramic capacitors placed as close to the pins as possible. Additionally, use a 10 µF bulk capacitor on each supply if the power source is far from the device. This helps maintain stable operation and reduces noise coupling. The device draws minimal quiescent current, but transient currents during switching can cause voltage dips if decoupling is inadequate.
For high-speed signals up to 150 Mbps, keep the trace lengths short and matched between channels to minimize skew. Use controlled impedance traces (e.g., 50 ohms) if the traces are longer than 1 inch. Avoid vias on the signal lines if possible, as they add parasitic capacitance and inductance. The low output skew (1 ns max) of the ISO7241MDW helps maintain timing margins, but PCB layout still plays a critical role.
