INA214AIDCKR Übersicht
A current sense amplifier is a specialized differential amplifier that amplifies the small voltage drop across a shunt resistor while rejecting high common-mode voltage. It is a fundamental power-management building block within the amplifier and current-sensing IC hierarchy, feeding overcurrent comparators, ADCs, and closed-loop feedback controllers. The INA214 belongs to the TI INA21x zero-drift current-shunt monitor family, widely deployed in automotive, industrial, and consumer power systems.
Key features include a maximum input offset voltage of +/-60 uV (INA214 grade), near-zero offset drift from the zero-drift chopper-stabilized architecture, bi-directional measurement referenced to the VREF pin, and a common-mode range that survives -0.3 V reverse-battery events. An AEC-Q100 qualified variant, INA214AIDCKR-Q1, is available for automotive designs.
Technically, the chopper-stabilized topology continuously self-corrects offset and 1/f drift, delivering excellent DC accuracy for precision-current measurement without trimming. The push-pull analog voltage output connects directly to an ADC or comparator, eliminating additional signal conditioning stages. The 26 V common-mode rating with 1.7 V to 5.5 V supply operation gives designers flexible rail architecture in dense PCBs; the SC-70 footprint occupies roughly 2 mm x 2.1 mm.
Typical applications include overcurrent protection in power supplies, precision current measurement for system optimization, battery fuel gauging, closed-loop motor-control feedback, telecom and industrial 24 V bus monitoring, and solar/energy-harvesting current telemetry.
Design tip: choose the shunt resistor value to trade full-scale output swing against power dissipation, and decouple the VREF pin with a ceramic capacitor to preserve bi-directional accuracy. Pricing as of 2026-08-30 varies by distributor and quantity.

Typische Anwendungen
INA214AIDCKR ist geeignet für 6 Anwendungs: Overcurrent Protection, Battery Fuel Gauging, Industrial 24V Bus Monitoring, Closed-Loop Motor Control Feedback, Telecom Power Rail Monitoring, Automotive Body Electronics (Q1 Variant).
Overcurrent Protection
The INA214AIDCKR provides a voltage output proportional to shunt current with a gain of 100 V/V, feeding an overcurrent comparator or supervisor directly. Its -0.3 V to 26 V common-mode range lets it monitor 12 V and 24 V supply rails, while the +/-60 uV maximum offset enables accurate small-signal threshold detection for low trip points. Placed in the high-side path with a milliohm shunt, it adds minimal voltage drop and detects fault conditions within microseconds, supporting robust power-supply fault protection without additional signal conditioning.

Battery Fuel Gauging
Bi-directional measurement referenced to the VREF pin lets the INA214AIDCKR capture both charge and discharge currents in battery-powered systems. The zero-drift chopper architecture keeps offset near zero, so small sleep-mode currents remain measurable alongside ampere-level charge currents. With a 1.7 V to 5.5 V supply it interfaces directly to low-voltage MCUs, and the SC-70-6 footprint fits compact battery pack PCBs. Output connects straight to the MCU ADC input for coulomb-counting and state-of-charge estimation algorithms.

Industrial 24V Bus Monitoring
The 26 V maximum common-mode rating makes the INA214AIDCKR well suited to industrial 24 V bus rails, including tolerance of transient excursions up to 26 V continuous. The zero-drift topology delivers DC-accurate readings for load profiling and energy optimization in factory automation, and the 100 V/V gain accommodates typical 10 mR to 50 mR industrial shunts. The analog output feeds PLC ADC modules or isolation amplifiers downstream, giving system controllers continuous visibility into rail loading and abnormal current draw.

Closed-Loop Motor Control Feedback
In motor drives, the INA214AIDCKR senses phase or DC-link current through a shunt and provides feedback to the control loop. The wide common-mode range tolerates PWM-induced common-mode swings up to 26 V, and the near-zero offset drift maintains torque accuracy over temperature. The 100 V/V gain converts a 10 mR shunt signal to 1 V/A for easy ADC interfacing, enabling fast overcurrent limiting and precise current-loop compensation in DC servo and small BLDC applications.

Telecom Power Rail Monitoring
Telecom and networking equipment operating from -48 V derived or intermediate 12 V/24 V rails uses the INA214AIDCKR for continuous current telemetry. Its common-mode independence from supply voltage allows the amplifier to run from a 3.3 V logic rail while the shunt sits at up to 26 V common-mode. High DC accuracy supports power budgeting and predictive-maintenance analytics, and the tiny SC-70-6 package fits dense line-card layouts where board area is limited.

Automotive Body Electronics (Q1 Variant)
For automotive designs, the pin-compatible INA214AIDCKR-Q1 provides AEC-Q100 qualified current sensing for body control modules, LED lighting loads, and actuator diagnostics. The -0.3 V reverse-battery tolerance protects the input during load-dump-adjacent and reversed-jumper conditions, while 100 V/V gain supports standard automotive shunt values. Systems prototyped with the commercial INA214AIDCKR can migrate to the Q1 variant with no PCB change, since package, pinout, and gain are identical.

Designhinweise
Select the shunt resistor by trading output swing against dissipation: VOUT = VREF + 100 x I x RSHUNT. For a 3.3 V ADC with VREF at mid-supply (1.65 V), keep the amplified shunt signal within +/-1.6 V. Power loss in the shunt is I^2 x R; for continuous high currents prefer sub-10 mR shunts and rely on the 60 uV offset for resolution at the low end of the range.
Use Kelvin (4-wire) connections at the shunt: route IN+ and IN- traces directly to the shunt pads, not shared with high-current paths. Decouple VS with a 0.1 uF ceramic capacitor close to pin 6, and decouple VREF with a ceramic capacitor (0.1 uF typical) to keep the bi-directional reference quiet. Keep the OUT trace short and away from switching-node aggressors.
Do not exceed the 26 V common-mode limit even transiently, and remember the -0.3 V floor: excursions below this can forward internal protection diodes. For production automotive use, substitute INA214AIDCKR-Q1 (AEC-Q100) rather than the commercial part. When substituting other family members (INA210/211/212/213), recompute the shunt value because gains range from 50 V/V to 1000 V/V.
