MAX1076CTC+T Übersicht
An SAR (Successive Approximation Register) ADC is a type of analog-to-digital converter that performs a binary search through successive bit-weights using an internal DAC and a sample-and-hold circuit. SAR ADCs occupy the speed/resolution sweet spot between slow slope converters and high-speed flash ADCs, and are widely used for data acquisition, instrumentation, and process control where 8-16 bits and 100 ksps to several Msps are required. The MAX1076CTC+T belongs to this category, and as a true-differential part it rejects common-mode noise from industrial sensor front-ends - a key advantage in motor control and PLC analog input modules.
Key features include a true-differential analog input, internal 2.5 V reference, single 2.7 V to 3.6 V supply operation, SPI/QSPI/MICROWIRE-compatible serial interface, low power consumption, and a hardware shutdown pin for battery-powered systems. The serial-interface architecture minimises pin count to just 12 pins while supporting daisy-chain connection to ADCs sharing the same bus.
The MAX1076CTC+T uses a charge-distribution DAC array and an on-chip sample/hold, achieving 10-bit linearity at 1.8 Msps with low integral non-linearity (INL) and differential non-linearity (DNL) suitable for instrumentation and control loops. The internal reference eliminates external reference drift concerns, simplifying BOM cost and board area.
Typical applications include portable instrumentation, data acquisition systems, process control loops, medical instrumentation, and battery-powered sensor interfaces. The combination of true-differential input and integrated reference makes the part particularly attractive for industrial 4-20 mA loop receivers and motor-control current-sense paths.
When designing with this device, allocate adequate PCB space for the exposed pad (EP) - it must be soldered to the ground plane for thermal dissipation and electrical performance. Use low-ESR ceramic bypass capacitors as recommended by the datasheet and verify the common-mode voltage at the inputs remains within the input common-mode range.

Typische Anwendungen
MAX1076CTC+T ist geeignet für 6 Anwendungs: Portable Data Acquisition Systems, Process Control Analog Input Modules, Medical Instrumentation Signal Chains, Motor Control Current Sense Digitisation, Industrial Sensor Signal Conditioning, Battery-Powered Sensor Interface Boards.
Portable Data Acquisition Systems
The MAX1076CTC+T fits portable data acquisition systems because its 1.8 Msps sample rate and 10-bit resolution capture fast analog signals while the integrated reference eliminates an entire IC from the BOM. At a 3.3 V single supply, the part pairs cleanly with a microcontroller running SPI at up to the supported serial-clock frequency. Compared to an external-reference design, the MAX1076 reduces PCB area and improves power-on settling behaviour, which is critical for battery-powered or hand-held test gear.
Empfohlen
Process Control Analog Input Modules
The MAX1076CTC+T suits process-control analog input modules because the true-differential input rejects common-mode noise from 4-20 mA loops, thermocouples, and bridge sensors commonly found in industrial PLCs. The internal 2.5 V reference and low INL/DNL ensure repeatable conversions for PID loop feedback. The 12-TQFN (4x4 mm) footprint allows high-density multi-channel analog input cards where many ADCs are daisy-chained on a single SPI bus.
Empfohlen
Medical Instrumentation Signal Chains
The MAX1076CTC+T serves medical instrumentation where moderate-resolution digitisation of patient-side analog signals is required. The true-differential input is well suited for ECG front-end digitisation because it handles bipolar signal swings centered on mid-rail, while the integrated reference reduces long-term drift that could affect calibration accuracy. The hardware shutdown pin also enables duty-cycled sampling to extend battery life in portable medical monitors and pulse oximeters.
Empfohlen
Motor Control Current Sense Digitisation
The MAX1076CTC+T is well matched to motor control current-sense loops because its true-differential input accepts shunt-resistor signals with high common-mode transient rejection. The 1.8 Msps sample rate enables fast over-current protection and field-oriented-control current loops in BLDC and PMSM motor drives. The integrated reference simplifies the BOM versus discrete reference designs, reducing PCB area in space-constrained integrated motor-control modules.
Empfohlen
Industrial Sensor Signal Conditioning
The MAX1076CTC+T serves industrial sensor signal conditioning applications such as pressure, flow, and temperature transmitter designs. The true-differential input pairs directly with bridge sensors and thermocouples, eliminating the need for an instrumentation amplifier in many designs. The integrated reference ensures accurate ratiometric conversion, while the single 3.3 V supply aligns with industrial 24 V loop-powered designs after a small LDO step-down.
Empfohlen
Battery-Powered Sensor Interface Boards
The MAX1076CTC+T is well suited for battery-powered sensor interface boards because its hardware shutdown pin drops supply current to sub-microampere levels when not actively sampling, extending battery life in remote or wireless sensor nodes. The integrated reference removes the always-on bias current of an external reference IC, while the true-differential input rejects common-mode noise from long sensor cables typical in remote installations.

Designhinweise
The exposed pad (EP) on the 12-TQFN package must be soldered directly to the analog ground plane for both thermal dissipation and electrical performance. According to Maxim/Analog Devices application guidance, a continuous top-layer ground pour with multiple thermal vias to the inner ground plane is required to achieve rated AC performance and prevent excessive junction temperature rise in industrial temperature environments.
Place a low-ESR 0.1 uF ceramic bypass capacitor as close as possible to each AVDD and DVDD pin, plus a bulk 4.7 uF to 10 uF tantalum or ceramic capacitor at the AVDD pin. According to the Maxim datasheet, the internal reference requires a low-ESR bypass capacitor on the REF pin (typically 0.1 uF). Poor bypassing on REF degrades linearity and increases noise, so this capacitor should not be omitted.
The true-differential analog inputs (AIN+ and AIN-) should be routed as a matched differential pair to preserve common-mode rejection. According to SAR ADC design guidance, route analog and digital sections on separate ground islands joined at a single tie under the IC, and keep digital switching lines (SCLK, DOUT, CS) away from AIN+ and AIN- to avoid digital-noise coupling that would degrade SNR.
Do not exceed the absolute-maximum analog input voltage on AIN+ and AIN-; clamp with protection diodes if the source could overshoot AVDD. According to the datasheet, the input common-mode range must be respected or linearity suffers. Also note the SHDN pin is active-low: leaving it floating can leave the part in an undefined state. Drive SHDN high (to DVDD) for normal operation, or low for shutdown.
Estimated: at 1.8 Msps continuous sampling in the 12-TQFN (4x4 mm) package, supply current is a few milliamperes, dissipating well under 100 mW. Junction temperature rise is negligible, so no heatsink is needed in typical environments. If operating at elevated ambient (>85 C) or in a fully sealed enclosure, monitor the EP temperature and provide additional PCB thermal relief via the ground plane.
