MAX11627EEE/V+T Übersicht

The Maxim Integrated (Analog Devices) MAX11627EEE/V+T is a 12-bit, 300 ksps, low-power successive-approximation analog-to-digital converter with 4 analog input channels, an internal 2.5V reference, an internal 2.048 MHz oscillator, and a 16-entry FIFO housed in a 16-pin QSOP package. The /V suffix denotes the automotive-grade (AEC-Q100) screening, and the +T suffix denotes tape-and-reel packaging. The MAX11627 is part of a six-member family (MAX11626-MAX11629 and MAX11632/MAX11633) that shares a common serial interface and pinout but differs in channel count, reference voltage, and FIFO depth.

A successive-approximation register (SAR) ADC is a sampling converter architecture that performs one bit decision per internal clock cycle using a binary-search algorithm against a precision DAC. SAR ADCs are valued for deterministic latency, no pipeline delay, and excellent DC accuracy at moderate sample rates, placing them between low-speed delta-sigma converters and high-speed pipeline ADCs in the data-converter hierarchy. The 16-entry FIFO on the MAX11627 decouples the host sample rate from the conversion rate, allowing the host to sleep between block transfers and reducing SPI bus traffic in power-constrained or interrupt-driven embedded designs.

Key features include 4 single-ended analog inputs (0 to VREF range), 12-bit resolution with ±1 LSB INL and ±1 LSB DNL and no missing codes over temperature, 300 ksps maximum throughput, an internal 2.5V reference, scan-mode auto-sequencing, internal averaging, 10 MHz SPI/QSPI/MICROWIRE-compatible serial interface, an internal clock that eliminates an external crystal, and a low 2.7V-3.6V analog supply. The /V automotive variant adds extended qualification per AEC-Q100, suiting the part for body-electronics, sensor, and industrial-sensor applications where -40C to +85C operation is required.

Typical applications include automotive sensor interfaces (e.g., pedal position, throttle, HVAC flap position), industrial multi-channel data-acquisition modules, battery-monitoring systems for 12V/24V lead-acid and lithium packs, portable instrumentation front ends, and any 3.3V-rail embedded design that needs 12-bit multi-channel conversion with host-monitored data movement. The internal reference and internal clock minimize external BOM, while the FIFO reduces microcontroller wake-up frequency for power-budget-sensitive applications.

When designing with the MAX11627EEE/V+T, place the 0.1 uF + 10 uF decoupling pair as close as possible to AVDD and DVDD pins, keep the analog input traces short and guarded, and bypass REF with the 10 uF capacitor recommended in the manufacturer datasheet. The internal reference can source up to 1 mA, so any external load beyond ratiometric must be buffered.

This page synthesizes distributor pricing, FIFO-aware firmware design notes, AEC-Q100 qualification details, and drop-in replacement options not aggregated in the manufacturer datasheet, providing a single engineering decision surface for embedded design teams evaluating the MAX11627 family.

MAX11627EEE/V+T ist geeignet für 6 Anwendungs: Automotive Multi-Channel Sensor Interface, Industrial Multi-Channel Data Acquisition Module, Battery Monitoring for 12V/24V Lead-Acid and Lithium Packs, Portable Instrumentation Front End, 3.3V Embedded Sensor Hub, HVAC Climate Control Sensor Interface.

🚗

Automotive Multi-Channel Sensor Interface

The MAX11627EEE/V+T's AEC-Q100 (/V suffix) qualification, 4 single-ended inputs, internal 2.5V reference, and 16-entry FIFO make it well-suited to automotive body-electronics sensor front ends. The IC scans pedal-position, HVAC-flap, fuel-level, or temperature sensors sequentially while the host MCU sleeps, only waking to drain the FIFO every 16 samples - reducing wake-up load and saving ~0.5-1 mA per scan cycle. The 12-bit resolution covers 0.1% sensor accuracy requirements typical of body-control modules. Compared to discrete op-amp + ADC solutions, the integrated 2.5V reference eliminates reference drift concerns across -40C to +85C and the internal 2.048 MHz oscillator removes the need for an external clock crystal, reducing BOM and PCB area for AEC-Q100 sensor cluster designs.

🏭

Industrial Multi-Channel Data Acquisition Module

For industrial 4-20 mA loop sensors and 0-10V signal conditioning, the MAX11627EEE/V+T's 12-bit resolution, 300 ksps throughput, and scan-mode auto-sequencing simplify multi-channel data-acquisition front ends. The IC's 4 single-ended inputs allow direct connection to four op-amp-buffered sensor outputs on a single 3.3V rail, and the 16-entry FIFO lets a Cortex-M0 host poll the converter once every 16 conversions. The internal 2.5V reference provides ratiometric measurements with <±2 LSB drift over temperature, adequate for process-control and building-automation modules. The QSOP-16 footprint also enables a compact PCB layout under 100 sq mm, allowing integration into DIN-rail-mounted sensor modules with isolated power and signal interfaces.

⚡

Battery Monitoring for 12V/24V Lead-Acid and Lithium Packs

The MAX11627EEE/V+T's 4-channel input is well-matched to 4-cell battery-monitoring designs where voltage, current, and temperature are read simultaneously on a 3.3V rail. The internal 2.5V reference supports ratiometric current-sense measurements with 12-bit resolution and ±1 LSB INL, sufficient for coulomb-counting and state-of-charge estimation. The 16-entry FIFO buffers a full scan cycle so the host can drain the FIFO only once every 16 conversions, dropping average interrupt load by an order of magnitude. AEC-Q100 /V qualification is also valuable for 12V/24V lead-acid battery modules installed in vehicles and industrial equipment where the same IC must operate reliably from -40C to +85C.

📱

Portable Instrumentation Front End

Handheld multimeters, portable data loggers, and field instrumentation benefit from the MAX11627EEE/V+T's low 3.3V supply requirement, 4-channel input, and integrated internal reference. The 12-bit / 300 ksps performance supports simultaneous voltage, current, frequency, and temperature sampling on a hand-held tool powered by 2x AA cells with a 3.3V LDO. The internal reference eliminates one external component, the QSOP-16 fits into handheld enclosures, and the FIFO allows deep-sleep between block transfers - critical for battery-life designs targeting 100+ hours of operation. Compared to discrete ADCs without FIFO, the MAX11627 family lets the MCU stay in sleep mode between sample blocks, saving 1-2 mA of quiescent draw in the host.

🧩

3.3V Embedded Sensor Hub

The MAX11627EEE/V+T fits 3.3V-rail embedded designs where a microcontroller needs to read 4 sensors at 12-bit accuracy without an external reference. With a 2.7V-3.6V supply range, the IC operates directly from common 3.3V rails without an additional LDO. The 10 MHz SPI/QSPI/MICROWIRE interface is compatible with virtually every ARM Cortex-M, AVR, PIC, and RISC-V host MCU. The 16-entry FIFO allows interrupt-driven block transfer, with the host waking only every 16 samples rather than on every conversion - reducing wake-up events by 16x. For sensor hubs in 3.3V designs, the internal 2.5V reference provides a calibrated full-scale for ratiometric pressure, temperature, and humidity sensors, with no external reference IC required.

🌐

HVAC Climate Control Sensor Interface

HVAC and climate-control systems need multi-channel temperature, humidity, and airflow sensing at 12-bit resolution with automotive-grade reliability. The MAX11627EEE/V+T's /V automotive qualification and 4-channel scan mode make it a natural fit for HVAC control boards, where the MCU reads 4 sensors in sequence and processes the data for closed-loop control. The 16-entry FIFO reduces SPI traffic in interrupt-driven HVAC controllers, while the internal 2.5V reference and internal oscillator minimize external BOM. The 300 ksps throughput supports even high-speed thermal-mass-flow applications. Compared to multi-channel 8-bit ADCs, the 12-bit resolution captures 0.1C temperature resolution with PT1000 RTDs, an order of magnitude better than 8-bit alternatives.

The MAX11626EEE/V+T is a same-package, pin-to-pin drop-in replacement with the same 4-channel topology but a 4.096 V internal reference instead of 2.5 V - choose it when your sensor signal range is closer to 4.096 V. The MAX11628EEE/V+T is the 8-channel variant in the same QSOP-16 package for designs needing more channels. The MAX11629EEE/V+T is the 12-channel member that also fits QSOP-16 pinout compatibility for firmware reuse with channel-upgrading.
Where can I download the MAX11627 datasheet PDF?
The official MAX11627 datasheet can be downloaded from the Analog Devices product page at analog.com/en/products/max11627.html. The same document covers the MAX11626-MAX11629 and MAX11632/MAX11633 family. The product page also links to the MAX1231B/MAX11633/MAX11635 evaluation-system ordering information for hands-on evaluation before firmware integration.
Where can I find the MAX11627EEE/V+T pinout?
The MAX11627EEE/V+T pinout is documented in the manufacturer datasheet available at analog.com/en/products/max11627.html. The 16-pin QSOP pinout assigns AVDD/DVDD, GND, REF, AIN0-AIN3, CNVST, SCLK, DIN, DOUT, CS, and SHDN to fixed pin numbers. The pinout is also mirrored in the MAX11626/MAX11628/MAX11629 datasheet, so the same diagram applies across the family.
Does the MAX11627 require an external clock or reference?
No, the MAX11627 includes both an internal 2.048 MHz oscillator and an internal 2.5 V reference. The internal reference can be bypassed to use an external 1 V to VDD reference if higher absolute accuracy is required, but for typical 4-channel sensor scanning the internal reference is sufficient. The internal clock and reference together reduce external BOM to 4 decoupling capacitors, the QSOP, and the host SPI connection.
What is the maximum SPI clock frequency of MAX11627?
The MAX11627 supports a maximum 10 MHz SPI/QSPI/MICROWIRE-compatible serial interface clock. At 300 ksps with 12-bit data, the 10 MHz SCLK provides ample headroom for read-while-converting and block-FIFO-drain transfers. The SCLK frequency is independent of the conversion rate, so the host can clock the SPI bus as fast as 10 MHz between samples to drain the FIFO quickly.
What can replace the MAX11627EEE/V+T in a 4-channel 12-bit sensor design?
The MAX11626EEE/V+T (4.096 V reference), MAX11628EEE/V+T (8-channel), and MAX11629EEE/V+T (12-channel) are direct Maxim/Analog Devices drop-in replacements in the same QSOP-16 family. For cross-brand replacements, the ADI LTC2360ITS8 and LTC2365ITS8 are 12-/14-bit SAR ADCs in a smaller TSOT package but require a different PCB footprint and are not drop-in. The MAX11627 is the engineering sweet spot when 4 channels, 12-bit, and QSOP-16 are required simultaneously.

Technische Referenzdaten für MAX11627EEE/V+T – Vergleich, Designhinweise und Compliance-Informationen.

Designhinweise

Decouple AVDD and DVDD separately with a 0.1 uF ceramic bypass capacitor as close as possible to each pin, and add a 10 uF bulk capacitor on AVDD. The internal reference (REF pin) must be bypassed with a minimum 10 uF capacitor to ground per the datasheet; the 2.5V reference cannot source more than 1 mA of external load. Estimated: at 300 ksps with AVDD=3.3V, the MAX11627 dissipates approximately 3.5 mW (1.06 mA from AVDD plus minimal DVDD) per the family datasheet. For a battery-powered sensor hub, the SHDN pin reduces current to <1 uA between scans, and the 16-entry FIFO allows scanning 16 channels in burst mode then sleeping the IC.

Route analog input traces as short as possible and guard them with GND or AVDD. Place the 10 uF REF bypass capacitor as close to the REF pin as possible - this is critical for low-noise performance because the internal reference drives the SAR DAC. Use 0.1 uF + 10 uF analog-input coupling capacitors with a 20 ohm ferrite bead in series for noise reduction. Estimated: with a 4-channel 300 ksps scan and a 1 kHz input signal, expect ~70 dB SNR and ~12 effective bits; lower input frequencies yield closer to 12 ENOB. Avoid running the SPI bus wires parallel to analog input traces - cross them at 90 degrees to minimize digital-to-analog crosstalk.

Do not leave the SHDN pin floating - tie it high to AVDD for normal operation. Failing to bypass REF with 10 uF causes reference noise and degraded INL/DNL. The CNVST pin is active-low, so an external SPI peripheral driving active-high logic will need a logic inversion. The 16-entry FIFO is volatile - it is cleared on power-down and on CS rising-edge, so firmware must drain the FIFO before re-asserting CS or losing data. The internal clock starts within ~100 us after SHDN rising, so allow that delay before issuing the first CNVST. Finally, when switching from internal to external reference, allow 10 ms settling time after writing the reference-select register.

Use a 4-layer PCB with dedicated analog (AVDD), digital (DVDD), and ground planes. Star-ground AVDD and DVDD returns at the IC GND pins. Estimated: the QSOP-16 thermal pad (if present) should be soldered to a 4x4 mm copper pour to keep junction temperature rise under 5C at 300 ksps continuous operation. Place the SPI bus traces on the digital side of the board and route analog inputs on the analog side, separated by at least 1mm of GND pour. The 16-QSOP package is 4.0 mm wide x 5.0 mm long, allowing dense 4-channel sensor interfaces in <100 sq mm PCB area.
