SI3215-C-FM Übersicht

The Skyworks SI3215-C-FM is a single-channel ProSLIC Subscriber Line Interface Concept (SLIC) and CODEC IC housed in a 38-pin QFN (5x7 mm) package, integrating software-configurable 5 REN internal ringing up to 90 VPK, DTMF generation, and a comprehensive set of telephony signaling capabilities with expanded support for Japan and China country requirements. It pairs with the Si3201 line-side DC-DC controller (in a thermally-enhanced 16-pin SOIC) to form a complete FXS interface solution. Supply voltage is 3.13V to 5.25V with a typical 88 mA supply current and approximately 700 mW power dissipation; operating temperature is 0C to 70C.

A SLIC (Subscriber Line Interface Concept) is the analog front-end IC that connects a central-office or customer-premises telephone line to a digital voice path, performing the BORSCHT functions (Battery, Over-voltage, Ringing, Supervision, Codec, Hybrid, Test). The SLIC category sits within the broader telecom interface IC family and is essential for VoIP gateways, embedded media gateways, and integrated access devices where legacy copper-pair connectivity must coexist with packetized voice.

Key features include software-programmable internal balanced ringing to 90 VPK (5 REN to 4 kft, 3 REN to 8 kft), integrated battery supply with dynamic voltage generation, on-hook/off-hook detection, polarity reversal, and a PCM/SPI/GCI digital interface. The -C variant denotes the commercial (0C to 70C) temperature grade and the FM suffix denotes the 38-pin QFN (5x7) package. The part delivers >60 dB longitudinal balance and supports worldwide DC feed and ringing characteristics through firmware configuration rather than hardware strapping.

The Si3215 ProSLIC architecture uses a high-voltage bipolar line-side driver controlled by an integrated low-voltage CMOS DSP-like controller; all ringing and feed parameters are loaded through the SPI control port at boot. Compared to discrete line-interface solutions built from individual op-amps, relays, and ringing generators, the ProSLIC dramatically reduces PCB area and BOM count while providing software-controlled country compliance.

Typical applications include VoIP residential gateways, integrated access devices (IADs), cable embedded media terminals, PON/ONU voice port adapters, and small-office/home-office (SOHO) routers with FXS ports. The 90 VPK ringing and DTMF generation make it suitable for direct connection to analog telephones, faxes, or modems on the tip-and-ring copper pair.

When designing with the Si3215-C-FM, observe the line-side surge and over-voltage protection guidance in the Si3215 datasheet; the Si3201 DC-DC controller must be co-designed for proper battery and ringing voltage generation. Decoupling must be placed within 2-3 mm of each supply pin to keep PCM and SPI buses free of switching noise from the internal DC-DC converters.

This page synthesizes datasheet parameters from the manufacturer, distributor availability, and detailed comparison context for Skyworks ProSLIC family members that share the same 38-QFN footprint for drop-in PCB reuse.

Typische Anwendungen

SI3215-C-FM ist geeignet für 6 Anwendungs: VoIP Residential Gateway FXS Port, Cable eMTA Embedded Media Terminal, PON/ONU Voice Adapter, SOHO Router with FXS Voice Port, PBX Trunk-to-FXS Station Interface, Fixed Wireless Terminal (FWT) Analog Phone Adapter.

🌐

VoIP Residential Gateway FXS Port

The SI3215-C-FM is the canonical BORSCHT front-end for a residential VoIP gateway's FXS port, providing direct copper-pair drive for an analog telephone. Its integrated 90 VPK ringing generator (5 REN to 4 kft) eliminates the bulky external ringing transformer typical of legacy designs, while the GCI/PCM/SPI digital interface glues directly to mainstream VoIP SoCs. Power dissipation of about 700 mW under typical feed and on-hook voltage conditions makes it suitable for fanless plastic enclosures common in home gateways. Selection of the -C country-code variant specifically supports Japan and China ring cadences, which is critical for NTT-derived or IMS interconnects.

📺

Cable eMTA Embedded Media Terminal

Inside a cable embedded MTA (eMTA) terminal that delivers packetcable voice alongside DOCSIS data, the SI3215-C-FM serves as the SLIC for one or two FXS voice lines riding over the cable plant. The integrated DTMF generation, on-hook/off-hook supervision, and polarity-reversal support satisfy PacketCable 1.5/2.0 signaling requirements without external glue logic. The 38-QFN (5x7 mm) footprint lets the SLIC sit adjacent to the Si3201 boost converter on a compact multi-layer board, and 0C to 70C operation matches the commercial-grade thermal envelope of a desk-side eMTA. The -C firmware set ensures the same part can serve both North American and Asian cable plant deployments.

🌐

PON/ONU Voice Adapter

In a passive-optical-network (PON) optical-network-terminal (ONT) providing carrier-grade voice services, the SI3215-C-FM provides the analog line interface driving one or more POTs ports over the same fiber drop that carries data and IPTV. The ProSLIC's low BOM count (no external ringing transformer, no separate battery IC beyond the Si3201, no DTMF generator) helps meet the cost targets of mass-market GPON ONTs. Its 3.13V to 5.25V supply matches the typical 5V or 3.3V rails already available inside the ONT, and the SPI-controlled country-code configuration lets a single hardware design ship globally with appropriate firmware.

🧩

SOHO Router with FXS Voice Port

Small-office/home-office routers often include one or two FXS ports for connecting legacy desk phones to a VoIP service; the SI3215-C-FM is a tight fit here because it performs complete BORSCHT plus DTMF plus codec in a single 38-QFN IC. Designers can place it adjacent to the Si3201 boost converter and feed it from the router's existing 5V or 3.3V supply, eliminating the high-voltage power supply traditionally needed for analog ringing. The GCI/PCM/SPI digital interface ports cleanly into the router's network processor, and the 0C to 70C operating range suits the thermally constrained SOHO chassis. The -C firmware set is critical for Asian-market SKUs where ring cadence and battery-feed levels differ from ETSI/ANSI defaults.

🏭

PBX Trunk-to-FXS Station Interface

Small-business PBX systems that need to terminate an FXS station port can use the SI3215-C-FM as the analog line interface, presenting a complete telephone connection on the copper pair while the host PBX board handles call processing and signaling. The integrated codec, hook-flash detection, and polarity reversal make the PBX side straightforward - the SLIC takes care of the analog electrical characteristics of the line, while the host simply commands ring, feed battery, and detect off-hook over SPI or PCM. Because the part is footprint-compatible with the wider Si3215 family, the same PCB can be reused for variants targeting different regions by swapping firmware.

📱

Fixed Wireless Terminal (FWT) Analog Phone Adapter

A fixed-wireless-terminal analog-phone adapter (FWT-APA) bridges a mobile wireless voice channel to an analog desk phone via the SI3215-C-FM, which provides the line interface, ringing generator, and battery feed for the desk-phone's tip-and-ring pair. The 5 REN / 90 VPK capability drives long extension cords and multiple parallel off-hook phones, while the integrated DTMF generation lets the desk phone dial out over the wireless link. The 3.3V compatibility suits the constrained power budget of a battery-backed wall-mount terminal. Choosing the -C country-code build adds Japan/China ring and battery-feed conformance for cross-regional hardware SKUs.

What is the SI3215-C-FM and what does it do?
The SI3215-C-FM is a single-channel ProSLIC Subscriber Line Interface Concept (SLIC) and CODEC IC from Skyworks (formerly Silicon Labs) that performs all BORSCHT functions for an analog telephone line. Housed in a 38-QFN (5x7 mm) package, it integrates software-configurable ringing up to 90 VPK and DTMF generation, and pairs with the Si3201 line-side DC-DC controller to provide a complete FXS port for VoIP gateways, cable eMTA, and PON ONT voice adapters.
What is the maximum ringing voltage of the SI3215-C-FM?
The SI3215-C-FM supports software-configurable internal balanced ringing up to 90 VPK, capable of driving a 5 REN load to 4 kft or a 3 REN load to 8 kft of copper pair. According to the Skyworks Si3215 datasheet, this ringing is generated via the integrated DC-DC converter controlled by the companion Si3201, eliminating the need for an external ringing generator and dramatically reducing the bill of materials in VoIP gateway designs.
What is the supply voltage and current requirement of SI3215-C-FM?
The SI3215-C-FM operates from a single 3.13V to 5.25V supply and draws a typical 88 mA, dissipating around 700 mW of power. This compact supply range enables operation directly from a 3.3V or 5V rail on the host VoIP processor board, while the high-voltage line-side voltages are generated internally through the Si3201 boost converter rather than being sourced from the main supply.
What digital interface does the SI3215-C-FM use?
The SI3215-C-FM provides GCI, PCM, and SPI digital interfaces, per the Skyworks datasheet. PCM carries the voice codec data, GCI handles telephony signaling frames, and SPI is used for configuration of the SLIC's many country-specific parameters such as ring cadence, on-hook voltage, and battery feed levels.
Where can I buy the SI3215-C-FM online and what is the current price?
The SI3215-C-FM is in stock at major authorized distributors including DigiKey, Mouser, Arrow, LCSC Electronics, and Heisener. LCSC lists pricing starting from $1.59 and DigiKey/Mouser pricing as of 2026-10-10 ranges from approximately $4.95 at 1000-piece quantity up to about $9.50 at unit break. For hard-to-find or excess quantities, distributors such as ZDI, Avaq, and Veswin Electronics also stock the part.

As of 2026-10-10, the SI3215-C-FM ships immediately from LCSC and DigiKey with stock-on-hand availability. Mouser and Arrow also list factory stock; lead times for quantities above 10,000 units typically run 6-10 weeks from the factory because this is a mature programmable SLIC platform rather than a high-rotation commodity part. Contact the authorized distributor directly for a firm delivery quote on your required volume.
Is the SI3215-C-FM in stock at DigiKey and Mouser?
Yes, as of 2026-10-10 the SI3215-C-FM is in stock at DigiKey (Skyworks Solutions Inc., part number 1131239) and at Mouser as a Telecom Interface IC. Both distributors show factory-fresh stock and offer same-day shipping for small quantities. For BOM stability and traceability, sourcing directly from these authorized channels is preferred over brokers.
What is the best drop-in replacement for the SI3215-C-FM?
The Si3215-C-FM is at the top of the Si3215 ProSLIC family and shares the same 38-QFN (5x7 mm) footprint with its -FM sibling Si3215-FM, which lacks the -C country-code option but retains identical pinout and electrical specs. For genuine drop-in replacement, the Si3215-FM is the closest parametric match in the same footprint; cross-brand alternatives with pin-to-pin compatibility are not widely available because ProSLIC is a proprietary, firmware-controlled architecture.
SI3215-C-FM vs Si3215-FM - which is better for Japan/China deployments?
The SI3215-C-FM includes expanded support for Japan and China country signaling requirements per the Skyworks datasheet, while the Si3215-FM shares the same 38-QFN (5x7) package footprint but is targeted at broad global deployments without those regional code sets. For deployments into Japanese carriers (e.g., NTT-derived signaling) or Chinese PBX/IMS interconnects, choose the -C-FM; for North American and European VoIP gateways, the -FM may suffice.
Can the Si32286-A-GMR replace the SI3215-C-FM in an existing design?
No, the Si32286-A-GMR is not a drop-in replacement for the SI3215-C-FM - they belong to different ProSLIC generations and the Si32286 uses a 36-pin or different QFN footprint. While both are Skyworks ProSLIC devices performing BORSCHT, the Si32286 is a dual-channel, higher-integration FXS that requires a different PCB layout, BOM, and firmware. Treat the Si32286 as a functional upgrade that requires board rework rather than a pin-compatible alternative.
When should I choose the SI3215-C-FM over the Si32176/Si3217x family?
Choose the SI3215-C-FM for single-channel voice designs where proven ProSLIC firmware and the 38-QFN footprint are required, especially with Japan/China signaling requirements or when reusing an existing PCB layout that pairs the part with the Si3201 line-side DC-DC controller. Move to the more recent Si3217x family if you need lower BOM cost, wider input range, or higher integration; however, the Si3217x typically uses a different package, so the change is not footprint-compatible.
Where can I download the SI3215-C-FM datasheet PDF?
The official Skyworks (formerly Silicon Labs) Si3215 datasheet PDF is hosted at the Skyworks product page and mirrored on distributor websites including Mouser (https://www.mouser.com/datasheet/2/368/Si3215-276819.pdf). The datasheet documents the full BORSCHT performance tables, AC/DC electrical specifications, the SPI/PCM digital interface timing, and the reference schematic for pairing the Si3215 ProSLIC with the Si3201 line-side DC-DC controller.
Where can I find the SI3215-C-FM pinout diagram?
The 38-QFN (5x7 mm) pinout for the SI3215-C-FM is published in the Skyworks Si3215 datasheet under the package/pinout section and is also reproduced on Octopart and distributor product pages such as DigiKey (part number 1131239). The pinout details the TIP and RING differential outputs to the line, the VBAT high-voltage supply pins fed from the Si3201 boost converter, the PCM/SPI/GCI digital interface pins, and the ground/thermal pad connections required for safe 90 VPK ringing operation.
What are the key specifications of the SI3215-C-FM that engineers should know?
The SI3215-C-FM integrates a complete BORSCHT function set in a 38-QFN (5x7 mm) package: 90 VPK software-configurable ringing, 5 REN drive capability to 4 kft, integrated DTMF generation, integrated battery feed with dynamic voltage generation, GCI/PCM/SPI digital interfaces, 3.13V to 5.25V single-rail supply, 88 mA typical supply current, 700 mW typical power dissipation, and an operating range of 0C to 70C. It performs full 2-wire to PCM conversion, ring detection, hook flash, and polarity reversal without external ringing hardware.
What is the best cross-brand equivalent for the SI3215-C-FM?
There is no true cross-brand drop-in equivalent for the SI3215-C-FM - the ProSLIC architecture is a Skyworks-proprietary, firmware-controlled platform whose SPI register map is not replicated by competitors. Competitor single-channel FXS solutions from companies such as Microsemi/Microchip (e.g., LE58xxx family) and from Dialog Semiconductor exist in the same application space but use different packages, different DC-DC companion parts, and different firmware, so they require board-level redesign rather than a pin-for-pin swap.
How do I design power and thermal around the SI3215-C-FM?
The SI3215-C-FM dissipates approximately 700 mW under typical operation, mostly from internal ringing generation through the Si3201 boost converter. According to the Skyworks datasheet, provide a thermally adequate ground plane under the 38-QFN exposed pad, place input/output decoupling within 2-3 mm of each supply pin, and follow the high-voltage PCB clearance guidance for the VBAT/TIP/RING traces. The device itself does not require a heatsink in normal FXS use, but the host board must dissipate the cumulative Si3215 + Si3201 heat.

Auswahlhilfe

Choose the SI3215-C-FM when designing a single-channel FXS port that must terminate an analog telephone in Japanese or Chinese networks, where its embedded -C country-code set (ring cadence, battery-feed levels, impedance targets) eliminates firmware rework and lets a single BOM serve Asia-Pacific markets. Pair it with the Si3201 16-pin SOIC line-side DC-DC controller for ringing and battery generation; expect roughly 700 mW dissipation and ensure the 38-QFN exposed pad is soldered to a continuous ground plane for thermal return. For designs that do not need Japan/China signaling, the Si3215-FM shares the exact same footprint and electricals at slightly lower software overhead. For designs needing reel-pack delivery, order the Si3215-C-FMR suffix. For broader firmware headroom across modern signaling profiles, the Si3215M-C-FM retains the same footprint but adds updated firmware. Cross-brand alternatives (Microsemi LE58xxx, Dialog) are functional equivalents but require board rework because ProSLIC is a Skyworks-proprietary SPI architecture.

Designhinweise

The 38-QFN (5x7 mm) exposed thermal pad of the SI3215-C-FM must be soldered to a continuous ground plane on the top layer of the host PCB; this both dissipates the ~700 mW internal power and provides a low-impedance path for the 90 VPK ringing return currents. Maintain at least 0.6 mm clearance between the high-voltage VBAT/TIP/RING traces and any signal-line routing, and provide a keep-out area under the QFN body free of any signal traces that are not at ground potential. Decoupling for VDD and VBAT must be placed within 2-3 mm of the respective pins.

Estimated: at 700 mW dissipation with a 38-QFN (5x7 mm) ground pad soldered to roughly 1 cm^2 of 1 oz copper on an FR-4 board, the junction-to-ambient thermal resistance is on the order of 30-35 C/W, giving a ~25C rise above ambient. This is well within the 0C to 70C commercial range for typical office-attached equipment. If the host enclosure has limited airflow, derate the line-side power by limiting simultaneous ringing duration or by adding copper-area thermal relief around the QFN pad.

Do not attempt to operate the SI3215-C-FM without its companion Si3201 line-side DC-DC controller; the Si3215 cannot generate the 90 VPK ringing voltage or the dynamic battery feed from its low-voltage supply alone. Ensure the SPI firmware blob matches the country-code variant ordered (-C suffix) before first power-up, otherwise Japan/China-specific signaling defaults will be absent even though the silicon supports them. Finally, leave the TEST1/TEST2 pins floating or tied to ground per the datasheet - they are factory-test only and must not be pulled high in normal operation.
