TJA1145A-EVB Übersicht
A CAN transceiver is the physical-layer interface between a microcontroller's CAN protocol controller and the differential CAN bus. The TJA1145A supports classic CAN and CAN FD at data rates up to 5 Mbit/s, with selective wake-up and partial networking that lets an ECU remain quiescent on the bus until addressed, an important feature for automotive networks that must stay electrically present but draw micro-amps when idle. The transceiver is AEC-Q100 qualified, operates from a 4.5 V to 28 V supply (with 40 V load-dump tolerance), and integrates bus fault diagnostics.
Key features exposed on the EVB include the high-speed CAN bus drivers, integrated 5 V LDO output for the host MCU, SPI register access for partial-networking configuration, hardware reset and wake inputs, and pin-selectable CAN HS or CAN FD modes. The board exposes the CANH/CANL differential pair on screw terminals for direct connection to a real bus or a CAN analyzer. Two user LEDs reflect TX/RX activity and power status.
Typical applications include rapid prototyping of automotive body controllers, gateway ECUs, partial-networking nodes, industrial CAN-FD sensor backbones, and bench characterization of TJA1145A sleep current, wake-up timing, and bus fault behavior. The EVB lets engineers evaluate algorithm, register map, and bus behavior before committing to a PCB spin.
Design consideration: when measuring sleep or standby current on the EVB, isolate the USB-to-SPI bridge supply so its quiescent draw does not mask the TJA1145A's microamp-level sleep signature. The board's Arduino Uno headers supply the host MCU; check jumper settings so the MCU is not back-powered through the SPI lines.

Typische Anwendungen
TJA1145A-EVB ist geeignet für 6 Anwendungs: Automotive Body Controller CAN-FD Node Prototyping, Partial-Networking Selective Wake-Up Evaluation, Industrial CAN-FD Sensor Backbone Development, Automotive Gateway ECU Development, Bench Characterization of Bus Fault and EMC, Register-Map and Driver Development Reference.
Automotive Body Controller CAN-FD Node Prototyping
The TJA1145A-EVB lets automotive engineers prototype a CAN-FD body-control node in hours rather than weeks. The TJA1145A's 5 Mbit/s CAN-FD support, AEC-Q100 Grade 1 qualification, and 4.5 V to 28 V supply (40 V load-dump tolerant) match the harsh electrical environment of a 12 V automotive bus. Stacking the EVB onto a S32K1xx EVB provides a complete node stack with the TJA1145A physical layer, the S32K1 MCU, and partial-networking software to verify selective-wake behavior against a real body controller network.

Partial-Networking Selective Wake-Up Evaluation
The TJA1145A-EVB is purpose-built for evaluating NXP's partial-networking selective wake-up, which lets an ECU stay quiescent on the bus until addressed with a matching wake-up frame. The on-board USB-to-SPI bridge exposes the TJA1145A's register map so engineers can configure wake identifiers and measure sleep current down to the device's microamp-level quiescent draw. Compared to a discrete transceiver, the EVB isolates the TJA1145A's partial-networking supply so accurate standby measurements are possible.

Industrial CAN-FD Sensor Backbone Development
Industrial CAN-FD backbones for machinery, robotics, and process control benefit from the TJA1145A-EVB's 5 Mbit/s throughput and AEC-Q100 ruggedness. The board's 120-ohm jumper-selectable termination and screw-terminal CANH/CANL access let engineers attach it to a real industrial bus segment and capture traffic with a CAN analyzer. Stacking it onto a S32K1xx EVB delivers a complete CAN-FD sensor node with deterministic latency for control loops.

Automotive Gateway ECU Development
Gateway ECUs that bridge CAN, CAN-FD, and other in-car buses can be prototyped using a TJA1145A-EVB per CAN channel. The EVB's SPI control interface allows a host MCU to configure the TJA1145A's filters, wake identifiers, and bus-fault diagnostics independently per channel, replicating gateway behavior. Compared to a discrete bench setup, the EVB provides a production-representative reference for the TJA1145A's bus-fault tolerance and loopback diagnostic modes.

Bench Characterization of Bus Fault and EMC
Bench characterization of CAN bus fault behavior (short to battery, short to ground, loss of termination) is a primary use of the TJA1145A-EVB. Engineers can inject faults on the screw terminals and observe the TJA1145A's diagnostic registers via SPI, while the on-board LEDs reflect TX/RX activity and power status. The TJA1145A's AEC-Q100 Grade 1 EMC performance and integrated bus fault protection make the EVB a reliable platform for validating fault-handling firmware.

Register-Map and Driver Development Reference
Driver and firmware teams use the TJA1145A-EVB as a reference platform when writing SPI register-access drivers for the TJA1145A. The USB-to-SPI bridge lets a PC read and write every TJA1145A register without an external MCU, which shortens bring-up of the partial-networking and selective-wake code before integration with application firmware. Compared to point-to-point wiring, the EVB provides clean signal integrity and a known-good schematic.

Designhinweise
When measuring the TJA1145A's sleep current on the EVB, isolate the USB-to-SPI bridge supply using the on-board jumper so its mA-level quiescent draw does not mask the TJA1145A's microamp-level sleep signature. According to the NXP datasheet, the TJA1145A's selective wake-up sleep current is in the low microamp range; without isolation, the measurement is dominated by the bridge IC.
Verify the EVB's 120-ohm termination jumper before attaching to a real CAN bus. A live bus already terminated at both ends will produce a parallel-resistance fault if the EVB's termination is also enabled. According to the EVB user manual, the termination jumper is the only bus-impedance setting; default is enabled for standalone bench use and should be disabled when stacking onto a bus that already has termination.
Do not back-power the EVB through the Arduino Uno SPI pins when the host MCU board is also supplying the bus. According to the NXP TJA1145A-EVB datasheet, jumper settings control which rail feeds the TJA1145A; check the supply-source jumper so the EVB and host do not source current into each other through the SPI lines, especially when measuring low sleep currents.
Compliance-Informationen
RoHS and REACH compliance per NXP product page. AEC-Q100 qualification applies to the underlying TJA1145A transceiver IC, not the EVB PCB itself.
