ILD6150XUMA1 Descripción general
A buck LED driver (also called a step-down LED driver) is a switching DC-DC converter that regulates current through an LED string by lowering a higher input voltage to the LED forward voltage. Buck drivers sit within the broader category of constant-current switching regulators, which are themselves a subset of power management ICs (PMICs). Compared to linear LED drivers, switching buck drivers achieve much higher efficiency (typically 90%+) at high VIN-VLED deltas, eliminating the need for bulky heatsinks. The ILD6150's wide VIN range makes it compatible with both 12 V/24 V industrial buses and 48 V automotive/architectural lighting rails.
Key features include integrated over-current protection, adjustable over-temperature protection, an enable pin for power sequencing, and analog dimming via an external reference voltage or PWM signal. The hysteretic control architecture eliminates the compensation network design typically required for peak-current-mode controllers, simplifying PCB layout and reducing BOM count to an inductor, a Schottky diode, an input capacitor, and a sense resistor.
Typical applications include architectural and commercial LED lighting, signage backlighting, emergency vehicle lighting, off-grid solar LED systems, and industrial machine-vision illumination. With a 60 V absolute-maximum rating, the ILD6150 also tolerates load-dump transients common in 24 V truck and bus electrical systems.
When designing with the ILD6150, place the Schottky diode and inductor close to the SW pin to minimize parasitic inductance, and choose an inductor with a saturation current rating at least 30% above the programmed LED current. Avoid exceeding the 60 V absolute-maximum VIN at all times, including transients, and use a low-ESR ceramic input capacitor rated for the full VIN range.

Aplicaciones típicas
ILD6150XUMA1 es adecuado para 7 aplicacións: Architectural High-Bay LED Lighting, Automotive 24V LED Driving Lights, Industrial Machine-Vision Illumination, Off-Grid Solar LED Street Lighting, LED Signage and Channel-Letter Backlighting, Emergency Vehicle and Warning LED Bars, Horticultural Grow-Light LED Arrays.
Architectural High-Bay LED Lighting
The ILD6150XUMA1's 60 V input and 1.5 A switch rating make it ideal for architectural high-bay LED fixtures fed from 48 V constant-voltage rails. Its built-in 1.6 kHz PWM generator and external-DIM-pin analog control let designers implement 0-10 V dimming directly, while hysteretic control eliminates compensation-network tuning. According to the Infineon datasheet, efficiency stays above 90% across the full dimming range, eliminating the heatsink otherwise required by linear drivers in 100W-class fixtures.
Recomendado
Automotive 24V LED Driving Lights
Truck and bus 24 V LED driving-light applications benefit from the ILD6150XUMA1's 60 V absolute-maximum rating, which tolerates ISO 7637-2 load-dump transients up to ~35 V. The 1.5 A output drives multi-LED series-parallel arrays typical of high-beam and work-light modules. According to the Infineon datasheet, the integrated OCP and adjustable OTP protect the LED string and IC during output short-circuit and thermal-fault conditions - critical for under-hood and chassis-mounted luminaires.
Recomendado
Industrial Machine-Vision Illumination
Machine-vision ring lights and bar lights require flicker-free, high-speed PWM dimming for camera-frame synchronization. The ILD6150XUMA1 supports external PWM dimming frequencies well above its internal 1.6 kHz generator, enabling microsecond-scale pulses that lock to camera exposure windows. According to the Infineon datasheet, the hysteretic control responds within one switching cycle to PWM transitions, eliminating the visible flicker and motion artifacts seen with slower architectures.
Recomendado
Off-Grid Solar LED Street Lighting
Solar street-lighting systems often use 24 V or 36 V battery packs that can swing from below 18 V (deep discharge) to above 54 V (equalization charging). The ILD6150XUMA1's 4.5-60 V input window covers this entire operating envelope without a boost stage. According to the Infineon datasheet, the buck topology maintains >90% efficiency at typical 36 V-to-12 V LED-string conversion ratios, maximizing nighttime runtime from limited battery capacity.
Recomendado
LED Signage and Channel-Letter Backlighting
Channel-letter and large-format signage modules use long LED strings that demand both high voltage headroom and accurate current regulation. The ILD6150XUMA1's 60 V rating accommodates strings of 10-15 high-brightness LEDs at 24 V nominal supply, while its 1.5 A rating covers high-density modules. According to the Infineon datasheet, analog dimming via the DIM pin enables daylight-sensor-driven brightness control without external DACs or microcontrollers.
Recomendado
Emergency Vehicle and Warning LED Bars
Emergency-vehicle LED bars demand robust input protection against 24 V load-dump pulses and cranking transients, plus high efficiency to minimize alternator load. The ILD6150XUMA1's 60 V VIN tolerance and hysteretic control deliver both, while the 1.5 A switch rating drives multi-LED warning modules directly. According to the Infineon datasheet, integrated OCP and OTP prevent catastrophic failures in the harsh under-hood thermal environment typical of fire and rescue vehicles.
Recomendado
Horticultural Grow-Light LED Arrays
Horticultural LED fixtures use high-power white and monochromatic LED arrays that draw 0.5-1.5 A at 24-48 V bus voltages. The ILD6150XUMA1's 60 V / 1.5 A capability drives these arrays directly with >90% efficiency per the Infineon datasheet. Its analog dimming input accepts 0-10 V signals from greenhouse climate controllers, enabling photosynthetic-photon-flux-density (PPFD) tuning throughout the daily light-integral cycle.

Notas de diseño
Estimated: at VIN=48 V, VLED=24 V, and 1.0 A LED current, the ILD6150XUMA1 internal switch dissipates approximately (48-24)*1.0 = 24 W. The PG-DSO-8-27 exposed-pad package requires a substantial copper pour (minimum 1 sq inch on outer layer, with thermal vias to inner planes) to keep the junction below the 125 C maximum. Without adequate copper, the OTP will trip at high ambient temperatures, shutting down the LED output.
Place the input ceramic capacitor, Schottky diode, and output inductor as close as possible to the SW and VIN pins to minimize parasitic inductance that causes voltage ringing above the 60 V absolute-maximum VIN. Use a low-ESR X7R ceramic rated for the full VIN range (e.g., 100 V rating for 48 V systems). The exposed thermal pad must be soldered to a continuous GND plane with multiple thermal vias for heat extraction.
Do not exceed the 60 V absolute-maximum VIN including transients - on automotive 24 V buses, add a TVS diode (e.g., 60 V SMBJ) across VIN to GND to suppress ISO 7637-2 load-dump pulses. The CS pin current-sense resistor must be a low-inductance chip resistor; wire-wound resistors introduce parasitic inductance that causes false OCP tripping. The BOOT capacitor should be a 100 nF X7R placed within 5 mm of the BOOT and SW pins.
Keep the CS-sense-trace a Kelvin connection directly to the sense resistor pads, with no shared current path - any voltage drop in the ground return adds error to the LED current regulation. The DIM/EN pin is a high-impedance input susceptible to noise; route it away from the SW node and add a 10 kohm pull-down if driven by an open-collector source. Maintain at least 1 mm clearance between the SW node copper and any low-voltage analog traces.
