MK22FN1M0VLQ12-FR Descripción general
A microcontroller (MCU) is a single-chip computer containing a CPU core, program memory, data memory, and a configurable set of peripherals. The K22 sub-family belongs to the broader ARM Cortex-M microcontroller family, with the Cortex-M4F adding a hardware Floating-Point Unit (FPU) and DSP extensions for signal-processing workloads. MCUs sit hierarchically below microprocessors and above simple logic ICs, forming the processing core of nearly every embedded electronic product.
Key features of the MK22FN1M0VLQ12-FR include an ARM Cortex-M4F core with single-precision FPU, 120 MHz maximum CPU clock, 1 MB on-chip Flash program memory (1M x 8 organization), 128 KB SRAM, and a 16-bit SAR ADC with up to 13-bit differential / 12-bit single-ended accuracy on most channels. Integrated communication peripherals include Full-Speed USB OTG, up to three SPIs, two I2C, three UARTs, two CAN (FlexCAN), and an I2S module. The device supports -40C to +105C extended-industrial operating range and operates from a 1.71 V to 3.6 V supply.
Architecturally, the K22F combines an efficient Cortex-M4F pipeline, low-leakage SRAM, and an integrated 3.3 V LDO that supports operation from a single 1.8 V to 3.6 V rail. Multiple low-power modes (Wait, Stop, VLPR, VLPS) and a low-power RTC make it suitable for battery-powered designs. The integrated Full-Speed USB OTG transceiver eliminates external PHY components, while the FlexCAN modules enable automotive and industrial networking.
Typical applications include USB peripherals and HID devices, industrial sensor hubs, portable medical instruments, home-automation controllers, motor-control BLDC/PMSM drives, and low-cost Human-Machine Interface (HMI) panels with touch or segment-LCD support. The 144-pin LQFP footprint also suits gateways and edge nodes in IoT deployments.
When designing with this device, ensure the on-chip 3.3 V LDO is properly decoupled with 100 nF + 4.7 uF caps on VDCDC_IN and VDDQ_VIN, and that the USB VBUS pin handles correct 5 V sensing with a 1 k pull-up. The -FR tape-and-reel variant is functionally identical to the tray-packaged MK22FN1M0VLQ12 and is selected only for surface-mount assembly logistics.
This page synthesizes distributor pricing, drop-in alternatives within the Kinetis family, and practical design notes not found in the manufacturer datasheet, providing engineering guidance beyond raw spec repetition.

Aplicaciones típicas
MK22FN1M0VLQ12-FR es adecuado para 6 aplicacións: USB HID Devices and Peripherals, Industrial Sensor Hubs, Motor Control and BLDC Drives, Portable Medical Instruments, Home Automation and IoT Edge Nodes, Human-Machine Interface Panels.
USB HID Devices and Peripherals
The MK22FN1M0VLQ12-FR is optimized for USB Full-Speed HID devices including keyboards, mice, game controllers, and custom input peripherals. The integrated Full-Speed USB OTG controller with on-chip transceiver eliminates the external PHY that older Kinetis K-series parts required, reducing BOM cost and PCB area by 10-15 mm squared. The 120 MHz Cortex-M4F easily handles HID report parsing, debouncing, and LED animation at 1 kHz polling rates. With 1 MB Flash, designers can store large USB descriptor tables, multi-profile firmware, and bootloader space. Drop a 100 nF + 4.7 uF decoupling on VDD and a 33 ohm series resistor on DP/DM lines; the device enumerates as Full-Speed (12 Mbps) without external components.
Recomendado
Industrial Sensor Hubs
Industrial sensor hubs aggregating temperature, pressure, and flow data benefit from the MK22FN1M0VLQ12-FR's dual FlexCAN interfaces plus the 16-bit SAR ADC. Each FlexCAN supports CAN 2.0B at up to 1 Mbps, enabling redundant industrial-bus topologies common in factory automation. The 120 MHz core runs model-predictive control loops at 10 kHz while the 128 KB SRAM buffers sensor fusion data. The 144-LQFP exposes enough GPIO for parallel sensor buses; the integrated 3.3 V LDO accepts the 24 V industrial rail stepped down to 3.6 V max. Note that the -40C to +105C industrial temperature grade matches most factory environments though it falls short of AEC-Q100 -125C automotive requirements.

Portable Medical Instruments
Battery-powered medical instruments including pulse oximeters, glucose meters, and portable ECG monitors benefit from the MK22FN1M0VLQ12-FR's low-power modes (Wait, Stop, VLPR, VLPS) and Cortex-M4F efficiency. The integrated 3.3 V LDO supports direct Li-ion battery operation down to 2.7 V minimum, while multiple low-power run modes reduce quiescent current to single-digit microamps in standby. The 16-bit SAR ADC achieves the 12-bit single-ended accuracy required for clinical-grade signal capture, and 1 MB Flash stores patient record buffers. The 144-LQFP supports segment-LCD or OLED display drivers and capacitive touch I/O expansion. Note that medical IEC 60601 certification is the system integrator's responsibility, not the MCU's.

Home Automation and IoT Edge Nodes
Smart-home controllers and edge-IoT gateways leverage the MK22FN1M0VLQ12-FR's combination of USB for Wi-Fi/BLE dongle connectivity, dual FlexCAN for HVAC and appliance networking, and three UARTs for sensor arrays. The Cortex-M4F DSP extensions accelerate FFT-based audio event detection (glass break, voice activation) at the edge without cloud round-trip. The 1 MB Flash stores edge ML models and OTA bootloader slots, while 128 KB SRAM buffers time-series sensor data before transmission. The -FR tape-and-reel packaging suits high-volume smart-speaker and gateway assembly. Drop the MK22FN1M0VLQ12-FR between a 3.3 V LDO and a USB Wi-Fi/BLE dongle, with three UARTs heading to Zigbee/Z-Wave/Matter modules.

Human-Machine Interface Panels
Industrial HMI panels with segment-LCD, touch buttons, and rotary encoder inputs use the MK22FN1M0VLQ12-FR's GPIO-rich 144-LQFP footprint to drive 8x40 LCD segments plus QVGA TFT via SPI. The Cortex-M4F runs LVGL graphics library at 30+ FPS for menu animations on QVGA panels. Three SPI buses handle TFT, touch controller, and external Flash, while two I2C buses drive temperature sensors and EEPROM. The 120 MHz core handles USB firmware updates while the panel remains in operation, leveraging the integrated Full-Speed USB OTG. The -40C to +105C industrial grade covers factory-floor HMI environments; for outdoor -40C to +85C ratings the MK22FN1M0VLQ12-FR remains within spec.

Notas de diseño
Estimated: At 120 MHz CPU with all peripherals active the MK22FN1M0VLQ12-FR draws approximately 45-50 mA on VDD. Decouple each VDD pin with a 100 nF ceramic + 4.7 uF bulk cap within 5 mm of the pin. The integrated 3.3 V LDO accepts 1.71 V to 3.6 V on VDCDC_IN and VREGIN - ensure both are tied together to the same 3.3 V rail with separate decoupling to avoid core-supply noise coupling into the analog domain.
Route USB DP and DM as a 90 ohm differential pair with no stubs; keep series resistors (typically 33 ohm) within 4 mm of the MCU pins. Place the integrated 3.3 V LDO decoupling caps directly at VOUT_DCDC, VDCDC_IN, and VREGIN. Use a continuous ground plane under the 144-LQFP and stitch vias around the perimeter at 5 mm pitch to minimize ground bounce at 120 MHz switching.
Do not enable the FPU before setting CPACR register bits per the K22 reference manual - hard-fault traps otherwise occur on first FPU instruction. JTAG pins PTA0-PTA3 are shared with NMI/Reset; if JTAG is not used, hold the JTAG chain in reset via the MDM-AP. FlexCAN requires an external transceiver (e.g., SN65HVD230) - the on-chip CAN module only handles the protocol layer.
