PIC16F18324-I/SL Descripción general

The Microchip PIC16F18324-I/SL is a 32 MHz 8-bit PIC microcontroller with 7 KB Flash, 512 B SRAM and 256 B EEPROM, housed in a 14-pin SOIC (SL) package. It features Microchip XLP (eXtreme Low Power) technology with Integrated Functional Safety (FuSa) and Core Independent Peripherals (CIPs) including a 10-bit ADC, 5-bit DAC, comparators, CCP, 10-bit PWM, CLC, NCO, CWG, PPS, EUSART, SPI and I2C. The part is specified for the -40C to +85C industrial temperature range.

An 8-bit PIC microcontroller (MCU) is a compact, low-power computing core built around Microchip's enhanced mid-range architecture, integrating a CPU, non-volatile Flash program memory, SRAM data memory, EEPROM, and a rich set of analog and digital peripherals on a single die. PIC16F183xx MCUs sit in Microchip's hierarchical taxonomy as follows: PIC16F1xxx family -> 8-bit PIC MCUs -> PIC microcontrollers -> microcontrollers -> embedded semiconductors. These devices target cost- and power-sensitive general-purpose embedded designs.

Key features of the PIC16F18324-I/SL include the 32 MHz internal oscillator (with 4x PLL option), peripheral pin select (PPS) for flexible signal routing, 12 I/O pins, a 10-bit ADC with computation, a 5-bit DAC, and four 10-bit PWM channels. The device is supported by the MPLAB X IDE and the MPLAB Code Configurator (MCC) ecosystem, enabling rapid peripheral setup without manual register coding.

Architecturally the PIC16F18324 uses Microchip's enhanced mid-range core with a hardware multiplier, a 14-bit instruction word, and a vectored interrupt controller. The CIPs (CLC, NCO, CWG, 10-bit PWM) operate independently of the CPU, freeing MIPS for application logic and reducing firmware complexity for tasks such as waveform generation, signal conditioning, and protocol bit-banging.

Typical applications include low-power IoT sensor nodes, battery-powered consumer devices, home automation, LED lighting control, and small motor control loops. The 14-pin SOIC footprint also makes it a direct candidate for retrofitting legacy 8-bit designs that need to upgrade from older PIC16F1xxx or PIC16F182x parts while keeping the board unchanged.

When designing with this part, leave at least one GPIO free for in-system programming (ICSP) via PGC/PGD, since the SL package does not expose dedicated debug pins. Decouple VDD with a 100 nF ceramic capacitor placed within 5 mm of the pin, and verify ADC input impedance against the source impedance to keep acquisition-error below 10 LSB.

This page synthesizes distributor pricing, drop-in alternatives, and practical design notes not found in the standalone manufacturer datasheet, helping engineers compare options, select the right MPN for their application, and avoid common integration pitfalls.

Notas de diseño

Place a 100 nF decoupling capacitor within 5 mm of the VDD pin (pin 14) and a bulk 10 uF capacitor on the same rail. For XLP sleep-current-sensitive designs, the bulk cap should be a low-leakage ceramic (C0G/NP0) to avoid additional sleep drain. The PIC16F18324-I/SL operates from a single VDD; no separate analog supply is required, but analog references are derived internally.

Reserve RA0/RA1/RA2/RA3/RA4/RA5 for ICSP programming (PGD/PGC) when designing for field-upgradable firmware. Even if these pins are used in the application, isolate them with 0-ohm jumpers or test points. The 14-pin SOIC is suitable for hand-soldering and standard reflow profiles. Keep clock traces short and route HF crystal connections symmetrically to minimize EMI.

Do not exceed the 32 MHz FOSC limit when enabling the 4x PLL from an 8 MHz internal source. The internal oscillator is factory-calibrated to within +/-2% but for UART applications above 115200 baud, switch to a crystal for tighter accuracy. When using ADC, ensure source impedance is below 10 kohm to keep acquisition error below 10 LSB; add an external buffer op-amp for high-impedance sensors.

Use the Peripheral Pin Select (PPS) feature to remap EUSART, SPI, I2C, PWM, and CLC outputs to any digital I/O, simplifying PCB routing and reducing crosstalk. Group high-speed signals (SPI SCK, EUSART TX) on adjacent pins to keep return paths short. For PWM outputs driving long cables, add a series 33 ohm resistor to damp reflections without violating the drive-strength rating.
