PIC24FJ64GA702T-I/SO Descripción general

The Microchip Technology PIC24FJ64GA702T-I/SO is a 16-bit PIC24F microcontroller with 64KB ECC Flash and 8KB RAM, operating at up to 32 MHz in a 28-pin SOIC wide package. It features a 12-bit ADC at 200 ksps with up to 14 analog inputs, three comparators, and a Charge Time Measurement Unit (CTMU) for capacitive touch applications.

A microcontroller (MCU) is a single-chip computer that integrates a CPU core, program memory (Flash), data memory (RAM), and a rich set of peripherals such as ADCs, timers, communication interfaces, and I/O pins. The PIC24F family occupies the 16-bit tier in Microchip's portfolio (8-bit PIC10/12/16/18 -> 16-bit PIC24F/dsPIC -> 32-bit PIC32), offering a balance of processing power, peripheral integration, and eXtreme Low Power consumption for embedded designs.

Key features of the PIC24FJ64GA702 include 22 general-purpose I/O pins, multiple communication peripherals (UART, SPI, I2C), a 16-bit timer/counter architecture, and an integrated crypto engine for secure applications. The eXtreme Low Power (XLP) technology enables deep-sleep currents in the microampere range, making the part suitable for battery-powered IoT endpoints. ECC Flash (Error-Correcting Code Flash) protects against bit-flip soft errors, a reliability advantage in industrial and automotive environments.

The architecture is built around a modified Harvard core with 16-bit instructions and a 24-bit instruction word, supporting DSP-like operations. The 12-bit ADC achieves 200 ksps with multiple conversion trigger sources, and the CTMU enables touch buttons, sliders, and proximity sensing without external components. DMA support reduces CPU load during data-intensive peripheral operations.

Typical applications include consumer electronics with capacitive touch interfaces, IoT sensor nodes, low-power wireless sensor platforms, industrial control front-ends, USB human-interface devices, and portable medical monitors. The 28-pin SOIC footprint is widely accepted for hand-soldering and low-cost prototyping, while still providing enough I/O for typical embedded designs.

When designing with this part, consider the 2.0V to 3.6V VDD range and the 32 MHz maximum CPU clock. Use MPLAB X IDE with XC16 compiler and the PICkit 4 or MPLAB ICD 4 for programming and debug. The 'T' suffix indicates tape-and-reel packaging for SMT assembly.

This page synthesizes distributor pricing, drop-in alternatives within the 28-SOIC footprint, and practical design notes for embedded engineers - information not consolidated on the manufacturer datasheet alone.

Notas de diseño

The PIC24FJ64GA702T-I/SO requires only a single 2.0-3.6 V supply; no external core voltage regulator is needed. Place a 100 nF X7R ceramic decoupling capacitor within 5 mm of each VDD pin (pin 6 and pin 28) and a 10 uF X5R bulk capacitor on the main supply rail. The internal LDO generates the 1.8 V core voltage; ensure the VDD ramp is monotonic and that VDD does not dwell in the 1.8-2.0 V brown-out band for more than 50 ms during power-up. For battery applications, MCP1700 is recommended as a 3.3 V LDO with 1.6 uA quiescent current.

The 28-SOIC wide body (7.50 mm) provides 1.27 mm pin pitch - hand-solderable with standard 0.5 mm tip. Route traces on inner layers when feasible to reduce EMI. For noise-sensitive ADC readings, dedicate a quiet analog ground plane under the analog-capable pins (RAx, RBx); connect analog and digital grounds at a single point near the VSS pin. The crystal traces on OSCI/OSCO (pins 7/8) should be kept short, symmetric, and surrounded by a grounded guard trace to minimize stray capacitance shifts of 1-2 pF that can pull the crystal off frequency.

Common pitfalls: (1) Configuring an analog pin as digital output while leaving the ADC connected can damage the ADC input - always clear the corresponding ANS bit before configuring direction. (2) The CTMU is sensitive to VDD noise; insufficient decoupling causes touch false-triggers. (3) The PICkit 4 programmer connects to PGEC1/PGED1 (RB6/RB7) - do not populate external pull-ups on these pins without isolating the debugger. (4) The 32 MHz maximum applies with PLL engaged from 8 MHz; setting FOSC bits incorrectly locks the core at 8 MHz and halves throughput. (5) Forgetting to clear the INTCON1 NSTDIS bit when using nested interrupts causes hard-to-debug lockups.
