STM32F071CBT7 Descripción general

The STMicroelectronics STM32F071CBT7 is an Arm Cortex-M0 32-bit RISC microcontroller operating at up to 48 MHz, integrating 128 KB of Flash memory and 16 KB of SRAM with hardware parity in a 48-pin LQFP (7x7 mm) package. It is part of the STM32F0 "Access Line" mainstream family and includes a Consumer Electronics Control (CEC) peripheral alongside 12-bit ADC, 12-bit DAC, and 12 timers, all within a 2.0V-3.6V digital supply range.

A microcontroller (MCU) is a single-chip computer that integrates a CPU core, memory (Flash for code and SRAM for data), digital peripherals (timers, communication interfaces, GPIO) and analog peripherals (ADC, DAC, comparators) onto one silicon die. The Arm Cortex-M0 is the smallest and most energy-efficient member of the Cortex-M family, designed for deterministic real-time control at low cost and low active current; it implements the Thumb-2 instruction subset and the NVIC (Nested Vectored Interrupt Controller). Within the broader taxonomy, the STM32F071 sits below Cortex-M3/M4/M7 parts in processing performance, but above 8-bit MCUs (8051, AVR, PIC16) in code density, debug tooling, and peripherals - making it the typical "mainstream" choice for cost-sensitive embedded designs.

Key differentiating features include: hardware parity-checked SRAM for higher reliability in safety-relevant code, a 32-bit hardware CRC calculation unit (offloading software CRC loops), an integrated HDMI CEC controller for consumer-electronics interoperability, and a 5V-tolerant I/O structure that simplifies interfacing with legacy 5V logic. The 12-bit ADC and 12-bit DAC are 1 MSPS and 1 MSPS respectively, allowing mixed-signal control loops without external converters.

Architecture: Cortex-M0 core with single-cycle multiplier, 3-stage pipeline, and SysTick timer; the bus matrix splits I-code, D-code, and system buses to allow parallel Flash fetch and SRAM access. Power management integrates a low-power Run, Sleep, Stop, and Standby modes with RTC retention, and a brown-out reset (BOR) plus a power-on reset (POR) supervisor.

Typical applications include USB-CDC virtual COM ports (using the on-chip USB FS device PHY-less with external 1.5 k pull-up), home-appliance control panels, motor-control sub-modules, HDMI-CEC-equipped TV and set-top boxes, and low-cost sensor hubs. The package, 48-LQFP, is a hand-solderable and prototype-friendly footprint that integrates well into both production and hobby boards.

Design consideration: the 7 suffixes (T7 = LQFP48 industrial temperature grade, tape-and-reel) require careful selection when migrating between similar STM32F0 part numbers - the operating temperature range, package, and shipping form all vary by suffix. Designers should verify that the target application does not exceed -40C to +85C industrial range.

Aplicaciones típicas

STM32F071CBT7 es adecuado para 6 aplicacións: USB CDC Virtual COM Port Devices, Home Appliance Control Panels, HDMI CEC Consumer Electronics Receivers, BLDC/PMSM Motor Control Auxiliary, Industrial Sensor Hubs and IoT End Nodes, Human-Machine Interface Control Boards.

🔌

USB CDC Virtual COM Port Devices

The STM32F071CBT7 fits USB virtual COM port designs because it integrates a USB FS Device peripheral with internal pull-up that requires only an external 1.5 k resistor to D+, eliminating the external PHY. Its 48 MHz Cortex-M0 delivers enough cycles for full-speed USB 2.0 polling (1 ms frame interval) plus user data stream handling. The 128 KB Flash holds the combined USB stack, class driver, and application code without bank swapping. Pro tip: designers should isolate the D+/D- traces with a ground guard and keep the 48 MHz HSE crystal within 5 mm of OSC_IN/OSC_OUT for USB jitter compliance.

🏭

Home Appliance Control Panels

The STM32F071CBT7 suits home-appliance controllers (washing machines, induction cookers, microwave ovens) because its 5 V-tolerant I/O ports connect directly to legacy 7-segment LED drivers and Triac opto-isolated AC mains interfaces without level shifters. The Cortex-M0 48 MHz core comfortably drives FOC algorithm baselines at 8 kHz PWM through the part's advanced-control timer plus 5 general-purpose timers. Hardware parity on the 16 KB SRAM catches bit flips in safety-relevant code paths - critical for IEC 60335 functional-safety compliance. The industrial -40C to +85C range survives under-cabinet thermal loads for kitchen environments.

📺

HDMI CEC Consumer Electronics Receivers

The STM32F071CBT7 is one of few Cortex-M0 microcontrollers with a built-in HDMI CEC (Consumer Electronics Control) peripheral for one-wire CEC bus arbitration with TVs, set-top boxes, Blu-ray players, and AVRs. The dedicated CEC state machine handles bus-bit timing automatically, offloading the CPU from a 100 us bit-window interrupt service routine that would otherwise eat 25% of CPU time. Combining CEC with USB FS, four USARTs, and 12 timers enables single-MCU designs for AV receivers and CEC repeaters. Tie the CEC line directly to PB10 and add a 27 k pull-up per the HDMI specification.

⚡

BLDC/PMSM Motor Control Auxiliary

The STM32F071CBT7 serves as a slave controller or sensor hub in multi-axis motor systems where a master MCU runs FOC and the F071CBT7 handles HMI, keypad, and housekeeping tasks. The 1 MSPS 12-bit ADC and 12-bit DAC with 5 general-purpose plus 1 advanced-control timer capture back-EMF signals and generate complementary PWM for low-side drivers. Hardware CRC calculation unit lets it validate SPI/MI bus traffic from the master without CPU overhead, freeing the master FOC loop to run at 20 kHz. The CAN peripheral is on-chip for fieldbus integration in industrial cabinets.

🧩

Industrial Sensor Hubs and IoT End Nodes

The STM32F071CBT7 consolidates sensor aggregation, local conversion, and protocol bridging for IoT end nodes where the application runs locally rather than talking directly to cloud. Its 128 KB Flash and 16 KB SRAM fits a slim LoRaWAN/MQTT-SN stack alongside multi-sensor collection, while the 12-bit ADC pairs with on-chip temperature and VREFINT for self-calibration across the -40C to +85C industrial range. Stop mode with RTC retention pulls quiescent current down to roughly 2 uA for battery-powered fixtures such as wireless utility meters; the brown-out reset and window watchdog meet IEC 61010-1 industrial reliability requirements. 5 V-tolerant I/Os eliminate level shifters when connecting RS-485 transceivers.

💡

Human-Machine Interface Control Boards

The STM32F071CBT7 drives HMI control boards with LCD segment displays, capacitive-touch keypads, and rotary encoder inputs. Its eight-segment LED/LCD driver capability comes through the part's direct segment-driver pin map, and the six capacitive-touch channels leverage the integrated TSS (Touch-Sensing Library) on standard GPIOs - no external touch controller required. The Cortex-M0 48 MHz delivers a 4 ms touch-scan loop plus LED PWM dimming plus a UART link to a host controller without contention. Battery-backed RTC via the integrated RTC keeps the wall-clock running through AC brown-outs for HVAC control panels.

Resumen de productos recomendados

What is the core architecture of the STM32F071CBT7?
The STM32F071CBT7 uses the Arm Cortex-M0 32-bit RISC core operating at up to 48 MHz. According to the STMicroelectronics datasheet (DS9826), the Cortex-M0 implements the Thumb-2 instruction subset with a single-cycle multiplier and 3-stage pipeline, giving the part ~38 DMIPS of throughput while keeping active current under 10 mA at 48 MHz. The core is positioned above 8-bit MCUs (PIC16, AVR) in processing efficiency but below Cortex-M3/M4 parts in DSP capability.
How much Flash and SRAM does the STM32F071CBT7 have?
The STM32F071CBT7 integrates 128 KB of embedded Flash and 16 KB of SRAM with hardware parity. This places it at the top of the STM32F0x1/xB density tiers and matches the STM32F072C8T6's memory map minus the differences in peripheral mix (USB FS Device + CAN vs USB + CEC). 128 KB Flash is sufficient for codebases up to roughly 90-100 KB compiled object sizes after RTOS overhead, which covers the majority of small-embedded control applications.

Notas de diseño

The STM32F071CBT7 requires two supply rails: VDD (2.0V-3.6V) for the digital core and VDDA (2.0V-3.6V) for analog. Place 100 nF decoupling capacitors as close to each VDD/VSS pin pair as possible - traces longer than 5 mm introduce ringing during ADC acquisition. Add a bulk 4.7 uF X5R ceramic on each major supply. For USB applications, the internal USB regulator needs a 4.7 uF capacitor on the VDD_USB pin; without it, USB enumeration fails intermittently. Estimated: peak current draw at 48 MHz with all peripherals enabled is below 25 mA, well within USB bus-powered budgets.

Estimated: at 48 MHz core frequency the LQFP-48 STM32F071CBT7 typically dissipates under 100 mW; the LQFP-48 (7x7 mm) theta_JA of approximately 65 C/W gives a junction-temperature rise of 6.5 C at 100 mW, which is negligible in normal ambient operation. In industrial control-panel enclosures where ambient may reach 70 C, no heatsink is required. Avoid mounting the part directly above power resistors or transformers that radiate heat upward. If the design places the MCU adjacent to a Triac or IGBT on the same heatsink, verify that ambient plus self-heating at -40C to +85C industrial range remains in spec.

Three pitfalls commonly derail STM32F071CBT7 designs. (1) BOOT0 must be tied low for normal Flash boot; leaving it floating causes intermittent bootloader entry. (2) The 48-pin LQFP package has PB2/BOOT1 shared with general I/O - if your schematic pulls BOOT1 high at reset for bootloader, the pin is unavailable for application use. (3) The HSE crystal should be a fundamental-mode type (not overtone) at 8 MHz or 12 MHz with load capacitance matched to the crystal datasheet; using a third-overtone crystal without a tuning network causes USB jitter. For 5 V-tolerant I/Os, never exceed 5.5 V on the FT pin even briefly - the absolute maximum is 5.5 V per the DS9826 datasheet.

Route the 48 MHz HSE crystal traces within 5 mm of OSC_IN/OSC_OUT pins with a ground guard on both sides to avoid coupling switching noise from adjacent GPIO traces. Place the NRST pull-up (10 k typical) and the decoupling 100 nF right at the NRST pin; NRST traces longer than 20 mm pick up capacitive coupling that can cause spurious resets during power-down. The SWDIO/SWCLK pair for debugging should be routed together with a 100 ohm series terminator near the MCU side and brought to a 2x5 or 1x4 0.1 inch pin header - this preserves debug access without crowding the board outline.
