AD7384-4BCPZ Présentation
A SAR ADC uses a binary-search algorithm through an internal capacitive DAC to convert an analog sample into a digital word one bit at a time. SAR converters are valued for their low latency, high accuracy, and moderate power consumption; they sit within the larger ADC hierarchy as a precision data converter family positioned between delta-sigma ADCs for low-speed high-resolution applications and pipeline ADCs for very high-speed applications. This AD7384-4 is specifically engineered for applications that require simultaneous capture of multiple channels with sample-to-sample matching.
Key features include an on-chip oversampling block that can boost effective resolution by up to two bits at reduced bandwidths, a buffered internal 2.5 V reference, and support for an external reference up to 3.3 V for increased input span. The device operates from a 3.0 V to 3.3 V analog supply, and includes low power modes. The 14-bit resolution is well matched to precision current and voltage sensing, while the quad simultaneous architecture eliminates inter-channel skew that can cause phase errors in multi-phase systems.
The ADC integrates a high speed serial interface with daisy-chain capability and a busy indicator, simplifying connection to FPGAs, DSPs, and microcontrollers. Pin-compatible family devices provide a migration path between 14-bit and 16-bit resolution without layout changes. The oversampling engine can be programmed for 2x, 4x, 8x, 16x, or 32x averaging, trading throughput for improved noise performance.
Typical applications include motor control drives, power quality analysis, protective relays, medical ultrasound, aerospace instrumentation, and general multi-channel test and measurement. The simultaneous nature of the four channels is especially important in three-phase power applications where voltage and current vectors must be captured at the same instant.
For successful designs, pay careful attention to reference bypassing, input common-mode settings, and SPI timing. The analog input pins are pseudo-differential and need to be driven from low-impedance sources to maintain the specified SNR at 4 MSPS.

Applications typiques
AD7384-4BCPZ convient pour 6 applications: Motor Control Drives, Power Quality Monitoring, Medical Ultrasound, Test and Measurement, Aerospace Instrumentation, Industrial Data Acquisition.
Motor Control Drives
The AD7384-4BCPZ is well suited to three-phase motor control because it samples all phase currents and the DC bus voltage simultaneously, eliminating current/voltage phase errors that reduce torque estimation accuracy. Its 4 MSPS throughput supports demanding FOC loops, while the 14-bit resolution is sufficient for most industrial drives. The 3.0V to 3.3V supply and SPI interface connect directly to a real-time microcontroller or FPGA. Recommended companion products include STM32F446VCT6 for control processing and XC7Z020 for FPGA-based gate timing and protection logic.
Recommandé
Power Quality Monitoring
Power quality analyzers require simultaneous sampling of three voltages and three currents to compute real, reactive, and harmonic powers. The AD7384-4 captures four channels at the same instant at up to 4 MSPS, and its oversampling block can improve low-frequency dynamic range for harmonic analysis. The buffered 2.5V internal reference simplifies analog front-end design. For a complete metering solution, ADE9430ACPZ can perform energy calculations in parallel, while XC7Z020 can aggregate data from multiple AD7384-4 devices for wideband waveform streaming.
Recommandé
Medical Ultrasound
In ultrasound beamforming, multiple receive channels must be sampled simultaneously to preserve phase relationships across transducer elements. The AD7384-4 provides four pseudo-differential inputs and simultaneous SAR conversion at 4 MSPS, enabling compact multi-channel front-ends. Its deterministic low-latency conversion is important for real-time image formation. The 24-LFCSP package keeps PCB area small. The device can be paired with an FPGA such as XC7Z030-1FBG484I for beamforming, and a host MCU for system control and image post-processing.
Recommandé
Test and Measurement
The AD7384-4 is a strong fit for multi-channel data acquisition cards, logic analyzers, and oscilloscope front-ends because it combines four simultaneous channels, 4 MSPS sampling, and SPI in a small LFCSP package. The on-chip oversampling allows the user to trade throughput for additional noise averaging, which is useful for low-frequency precision measurements. The pseudo-differential inputs accept a variety of sensor front-ends when paired with precision amplifiers. An FPGA like XC7A100T can buffer and process the ADC stream, while a high-level MCU handles communication with the host system.
Recommandé
Aerospace Instrumentation
Aerospace data acquisition systems often require rugged, low-latency converters that can sample multiple sensor channels simultaneously. The AD7384-4’s quad SAR architecture, 4 MSPS rate, and industrial temperature range make it suitable for vibration monitoring, flight control feedback, and engine test instrumentation. Its low power and small 24-LFCSP package help reduce board space and thermal budget. The SPI interface can be isolated and connected to a radiation-tolerant FPGA or a standard controller such as XC7Z045-2FFG900I for telemetry processing.
Recommandé
Industrial Data Acquisition
General industrial DAQ systems need reliable multi-channel converters with low inter-channel skew. The AD7384-4 offers simultaneous sampling of four channels at 4 MSPS, a buffered reference, and oversampling to reduce noise. It operates directly from 3.0V to 3.3V rails found in many sensor hubs. The SPI interface can daisy-chain multiple converters for channel expansion. The recommended STM32F446VCT6 MCU provides a simple host environment, while XC7Z020 enables advanced triggering and real-time processing.

Notes de conception
Place a 100 nF ceramic capacitor close to each supply pin (VDD and VDRIVE) and a 10 uF bulk capacitor near the ADC. The reference pin should be bypassed with a 1 uF low-ESR capacitor, and this capacitor should be placed directly between REF and REFGND. The internal reference buffer requires a low-impedance ground connection to maintain accuracy at 4 MSPS and to support the on-chip oversampling engine.
Use a continuous ground plane under the 24-LFCSP package and solder the exposed thermal pad to the PCB ground plane. Keep analog input traces short and shielded from digital SPI lines. Separate analog and digital ground returns at the ADC, joining them at the thermal pad. This layout minimizes coupling of SPI clock noise into the pseudo-differential inputs and preserves SNR.
Verify the pseudo-differential input common-mode range before connecting the ADC. The input span is defined relative to REF; exceeding the common-mode range causes linearity errors. Also confirm SPI mode and timing in the AD7384-4 datasheet, especially CS setup/hold time when operating at 4 MSPS. Do not leave the reference pin un-bypassed, as this degrades undersampled measurements.
