Applications typiques
AT91SAM7X512B-AU convient pour 6 applications: Industrial Ethernet Sensor Hubs, USB Device Peripherals (HID, CDC, DFU), CAN-Based Automotive Body Electronics, Point-of-Sale Terminals and Payment Peripherals, Building Automation Controllers, Embedded Web Servers and IoT Edge Gateways.
Industrial Ethernet Sensor Hubs
The AT91SAM7X512B-AU's integrated 10/100 Ethernet MAC with MII/RMII and 512 KB Flash fits industrial sensor aggregation nodes that stream MODBUS/TCP or EtherNet/IP packets to a PLC. Its hardware DMA offloads TCP/IP processing from the ARM7TDMI core, freeing CPU bandwidth for sensor polling. With 128 KB SRAM it can host a lightweight lwIP stack without external memory. Operating temperature of -40 C to +85 C supports cabinet-mounted industrial deployment.
Recommandé
USB Device Peripherals (HID, CDC, DFU)
The integrated USB 2.0 Full-Speed device port on the AT91SAM7X512B-AU enables USB HID, CDC, or DFU peripherals without an external bridge IC. The 55 MHz ARM7TDMC core runs the Atmel USB device stack comfortably with 512 KB Flash for class descriptors. Bus-powered designs benefit from the MCU's low suspend current. Drop-in compatibility with the AT91SAM7XC512B-AU adds hardware crypto for secure DFU updates.
Recommandé
CAN-Based Automotive Body Electronics
The AT91SAM7X512B-AU integrates a CAN 2.0A/B controller alongside its Ethernet and USB, making it suitable for non-safety automotive body modules (window controllers, seat controllers, HVAC panels). 512 KB Flash supports AUTOSAR-like lightweight stacks. While not AEC-Q100 qualified, it is widely used in non-critical 12 V body networks where cost dominates over functional safety certification.
Recommandé
Point-of-Sale Terminals and Payment Peripherals
The AT91SAM7X512B-AU combines Ethernet for back-office connectivity, USB for PIN pad or NFC peripherals, and 512 KB Flash for firmware and crypto libraries in POS terminals. Drop-in compatibility with the AT91SAM7XC512B-AU adds AES/TDES hardware acceleration, supporting PCI-PTS payment terminal encryption requirements without changing the PCB. Industrial -40 C to +85 C temperature range covers retail and warehouse environments.
Recommandé
Building Automation Controllers
Building automation controllers benefit from the AT91SAM7X512B-AU's combined Ethernet, CAN, and USB interfaces, supporting BACnet/IP, KNX, or proprietary fieldbuses over the same MCU. The 128 KB SRAM accommodates BACnet stack buffers and scheduling tables. The 100-LQFP package and 3.3 V single-supply operation simplify DIN-rail module PCB design.
Recommandé
Embedded Web Servers and IoT Edge Gateways
The AT91SAM7X512B-AU's Ethernet MAC plus 512 KB Flash can host an embedded HTTP server (e.g., GoAhead, uIP-httpd) for equipment configuration portals or simple telemetry push. The 128 KB SRAM serves as buffer for HTTP request parsing and JSON encoding. Designers often choose this part for industrial gateways that bridge Modbus RTU/TCP and REST APIs without the overhead of Cortex-M class parts.

Notes de conception
Estimated: The AT91SAM7X512B-AU requires a clean 3.3 V supply for I/O and an internal 1.8 V regulator for the core. Place a 10 uF bulk tantalum plus a 100 nF ceramic decoupling capacitor as close as possible to VDDCORE and VDDIO pins. Use a ferrite bead or pi-filter between the 3.3 V analog supply (VDDANA) and digital 3.3 V to reduce Ethernet PHY-induced noise coupling into the ADC reference. Brown-out detection must remain enabled in the SUPC register to prevent Flash corruption during power-down events.
Route the Ethernet MII/RMII signals as a matched-length bus (50 ohm controlled impedance) and keep the PHY clock trace within 25 mm of the AT91SAM7X512B-AU's EMDC pin. Place the 50 MHz external PHY reference crystal no more than 5 mm from the PHY's XIN/XOUT pins with a guard ring tied to analog ground. The USB DP/DN pair must be 90 ohm differential with no stubs; keep series ferrite beads within 4 mm of the connector.
Do not confuse the AT91SAM7X512-AU (original silicon, has errata) with the AT91SAM7X512B-AU (revised silicon). Microchip's AT91SAM7X-to-AT91SAM7XC migration guide documents that the AT91SAM7X family is NOT RECOMMENDED for new designs; for new designs choose the AT91SAM7XC512B-AU (same 100-LQFP, adds hardware crypto) or migrate to the ATSAM4S16CA-AU Cortex-M4 part. Always verify the JTAG ICE port pinout against the SAM-ICE or J-Link adapter documentation to avoid damaging the ERASE pin (NRSTB).
Informations de conformité
