LTC2372IUH-18 Présentation
What is a SAR ADC? A successive approximation register analog-to-digital converter is a precision data-conversion architecture that uses a binary-search algorithm against an internal DAC to determine each code, one bit at a time. SAR ADCs sit in the taxonomy of analog-to-digital converters -> data converters -> signal-chain ICs -> mixed-signal semiconductors, and are prized for low latency, deterministic behavior, no pipeline delay, and excellent DC accuracy - making them the converter of choice for multiplexed multi-channel precision instrumentation, industrial process control, and medical monitoring front ends.
The LTC2372IUH-18 achieves 100 dB SNR, and its highly configurable low-crosstalk 8-channel input multiplexer supports fully differential, pseudo-differential unipolar, and pseudo-differential bipolar analog input ranges. A sequencer with a depth of 16 may be programmed through the SPI port to automate channel scanning, and an internal oscillator sets the conversion time, easing external timing constraints.
Typical applications include industrial process control and automation, multichannel data acquisition systems, medical instrumentation, and automated test equipment. The wide input range flexibility lets one hardware design serve multiple sensor types - thermocouples, strain gauges, and bipolar transducers - by reconfiguring the MUX rather than redesigning the analog front end.
When designing with the LTC2372IUH-18, decouple the AVDD and DVDD rails close to the pins and follow Analog Devices' standard SAR ADC layout recommendations to preserve the 100 dB SNR. Use the internal sequencer rather than discrete channel-selection logic to minimize GPIO usage and to keep channel-to-channel timing deterministic.

Applications typiques
LTC2372IUH-18 convient pour 7 applications: Industrial Process Control and Data Acquisition, Medical Instrumentation and Patient Monitoring, Automated Test Equipment (ATE) and Bench Instruments, Multichannel Vibration and Condition Monitoring, Precision Weigh Scales and Load-Cell Digitization, Power and Energy Metering Front Ends, Seismic and Geophone Data Acquisition.
Industrial Process Control and Data Acquisition
The LTC2372IUH-18's 500 ksps sample rate, 8-channel input multiplexer, and 100 dB SNR make it an excellent fit for industrial process control front ends that must digitize multiple sensor signals with high DC accuracy. The integrated 2.048 V reference and 20 ppm/°C max drift ensure long-term calibration stability across factory-floor temperature swings, and the 16-deep programmable sequencer lets an MCU offload channel scanning. Unlike slower 24-bit sigma-delta ADCs, the SAR core delivers deterministic, single-cycle conversion latency, which simplifies PID loop timing.
Recommandé
Medical Instrumentation and Patient Monitoring
For medical instrumentation, the LTC2372IUH-18's 100 dB SNR and 18-bit resolution capture the full dynamic range of low-amplitude biopotential signals while its 8-channel MUX simplifies multi-lead ECG, EMG, or temperature monitoring designs. The industrial –40 °C to +85 °C operating range supports the wide thermal envelope of clinical equipment. The low-crosstalk MUX keeps adjacent channels isolated, critical when small signals share a common reference. Compared with discrete ADC + MUX solutions, the integrated reference buffer and sequencer reduce BOM and board area.
Recommandé
Automated Test Equipment (ATE) and Bench Instruments
ATE and bench instruments benefit from the LTC2372IUH-18's 500 ksps throughput, which lets a single converter digitize many test points per second. The SPI-compatible interface supports 1.8 V to 5 V host logic, easing integration with both legacy 5 V testers and modern FPGA-based test platforms. The 32-QFN (5x5) package fits the dense analog front-end boards typical of rack-mounted ATE, and the wide input-range configurability (fully differential, pseudo-differential unipolar/bipolar) handles sensors, transducers, and reference voltages without a second converter.
Recommandé
Multichannel Vibration and Condition Monitoring
Vibration analysis on motors, pumps, and bearings requires simultaneous high-sample-rate acquisition across multiple accelerometers. The LTC2372IUH-18's 500 ksps and 8-channel low-crosstalk MUX let one part digitize an entire accelerometer array, and the SAR core's deterministic latency preserves phase relationships critical for FFT analysis. The onboard 2.048 V reference and single 5 V supply simplify ruggedized sensor housings, and the industrial temperature grade handles gearbox or motor-housing thermal exposure. A higher-channel variant like the LTC2344CUH-18 is recommended for 16+ accelerometer systems.
Recommandé
Precision Weigh Scales and Load-Cell Digitization
Precision weigh scales and load-cell readouts need 18-bit noise-free resolution at moderate sample rates. The LTC2372IUH-18's 100 dB SNR translates into roughly 17 noise-free bits, suitable for industrial scales, force gauges, and batching systems. The pseudo-differential bipolar input range accommodates the common ±10 mV/V bridge output of a load cell with headroom, and the integrated sequencer cycles through multiple load cells in a multi-point platform. The single 5 V supply reduces the BOM versus discrete ADC + reference + MUX designs.
Recommandé
Power and Energy Metering Front Ends
Multi-phase energy meters, power-quality analyzers, and battery-management telemetry all digitize several voltage and current channels simultaneously. The LTC2372IUH-18's 500 ksps and 8-channel MUX allow synchronized sampling of three-phase voltage plus three current channels, with the integrated sequencer and SPI host interface keeping the MCU free for energy calculations. The wide common-mode input range supports direct connection to current-shunt or Rogowski-coil front ends, and the industrial temperature grade suits outdoor meter enclosures.
Recommandé
Seismic and Geophone Data Acquisition
Seismic exploration nodes and structural-health monitoring systems digitize many low-frequency geophone or MEMS-accelerometer channels. The LTC2372IUH-18's 18-bit resolution, 100 dB SNR, and 8:1 MUX give geophysical-grade noise floor at 500 ksps, which is oversampled and decimated digitally to push effective resolution higher. The exposed-pad 32-QFN aids thermal dissipation in sealed subsurface enclosures, and the industrial –40 °C to +85 °C range handles desert-to-arctic deployments. Synchronized sampling across an array of nodes is straightforward over the SPI interface.

Notes de conception
Decouple the LTC2372IUH-18's AVDD (pin 12) and DVDD (pin 29) with low-ESR 10 µF tantalum plus 0.1 µF ceramic capacitors placed within 2 mm of the pins. The exposed thermal pad (pin 33 area) must be soldered to a continuous ground plane to keep the die-to-ambient thermal resistance low during sustained 500 ksps operation. Reference the LTC2372-18 datasheet figure on recommended power-supply bypassing for the exact topology.
Route the analog input traces (IN0± through IN7±) as a matched-length differential pair on the top layer over a continuous ground pour, keeping them away from the SPI digital lines (SCK, SDO, SDI, CNV, BUSY). The exposed pad on the bottom of the 32-QFN must be stitched with at least 9 thermal vias to the inner ground plane to meet the 100 dB SNR specification under full-bandwidth conditions.
Do not float unused analog input channels. Tie INx- of unused channels to GND and INx+ to GND through a 1 kΩ resistor to prevent crosstalk into active channels. When overdriving the internal 2.048 V reference with an external low-noise reference, the REFOUT/REF pins require a 10 µF ceramic bypass close to the IC; otherwise the reference buffer may oscillate. The internal oscillator sets conversion time, so do not expect deterministic sample-to-sample timing from a host-driven clock.
The 100 dB SNR spec assumes a clean 5 V AVDD with less than 1 mVpp ripple. If your upstream regulator is a switching DC-DC converter, add a 20 dB pi filter (LC pi) at the AVDD pin to prevent switching noise aliasing into the ADC's input band. Use a separate analog ground island for the input MUX and reference, joining it to the digital ground only at the exposed pad to avoid ground-loop noise coupling.
