MPXM2202A Présentation
A piezoresistive pressure sensor converts mechanical pressure into an electrical signal by exploiting the piezoresistive effect in silicon: when strain gauges on a flexing diaphragm change resistance, a Wheatstone bridge produces a differential voltage proportional to applied pressure. Absolute-pressure variants like the MPXM2202A reference a sealed vacuum cavity on-chip, so output is referenced to absolute zero pressure rather than ambient. This category sits within the broader sensor hierarchy: pressure sensor -> MEMS sensor -> transducer -> sensor IC -> semiconductor.
Key features include 0°C to +85°C calibrated temperature range, 0 mV to 40 mV full-scale span at 10V supply, 0 to 200 kPa operating range, on-chip temperature compensation, and a small surface-mount 5-SMD module. The integrated compensation removes the need for external calibration circuitry, simplifying analog front-end design.
The MPXM2202A uses a single monolithic silicon die containing the sensing diaphragm and the signal-conditioning thin-film network. Laser trimming during manufacture corrects both span and offset errors, while the on-chip temperature-compensation network minimizes thermal drift across the calibrated band. This architecture yields a robust analog output suitable for direct connection to instrumentation amplifiers or microcontroller ADCs.
Typical applications include medical instrumentation (respiratory monitors, infusion pumps), industrial pressure monitoring, HVAC transducers, altimeters and barometric systems, and process-control loops where a calibrated analog pressure signal is required. The 0-40 mV span suits low-noise instrumentation amplifier front-ends.
When designing with this sensor, ensure a clean, low-noise 10V excitation supply because output span scales linearly with supply. Add a low-offset, low-noise instrumentation amplifier (e.g. INA128) to amplify the 0-40 mV signal to a useful ADC range, and apply proper bypass/decoupling at the supply pins.

Applications typiques
MPXM2202A convient pour 6 applications: Medical Respiratory Monitor, Industrial Process Pressure Monitor, HVAC Barometric Transducer, Portable Altimeter / Barometer, Infusion Pump Pressure Monitor, Process Control Pressure Loop.
Medical Respiratory Monitor
The MPXM2202A's 0-200 kPa absolute pressure range directly spans the barometric plus airway-pressure swings encountered in respiratory monitoring, while the on-chip temperature compensation from 0 to +85 °C keeps the reading stable across patient and equipment thermal cycles. The 0-40 mV span at 10 V excitation provides a clean linear signal that pairs with a low-offset INA128 instrumentation amplifier to drive a 16-bit ADC for breath-by-breath airflow computation. Unlike uncompensated sensors, the integrated thin-film calibration network removes the need for external temperature-compensation circuitry in the analog front-end, reducing BOM count in Class II medical devices.
Recommandé
Industrial Process Pressure Monitor
The MPXM2202A fits industrial pressure monitoring at 0-200 kPa (29.01 PSI) absolute, covering HVAC duct pressure, hydraulic line monitoring, and process-gas measurements. Its laser-trimmed span and offset calibration deliver better than ±0.5% typical accuracy after amplification, while the 5-SMD module package simplifies board assembly in industrial-grade equipment. The on-chip temperature-compensation network tracks thermal drift across factory-floor ambient swings, and the wide calibrated band supports 24/7 continuous operation in control loops. The 0-40 mV full-scale span is typically amplified to a 0-5 V or 4-20 mA output via a dedicated XTR105 loop transmitter.
Recommandé
HVAC Barometric Transducer
In HVAC duct pressure and barometric applications, the MPXM2202A's 0-200 kPa absolute range maps directly to typical 0-15 PSI duct static pressure plus atmospheric offset. The 0-40 mV span at 10 V excitation, combined with the on-chip temperature-compensation network, yields a stable analog output across the 0 to +85 °C commercial HVAC operating envelope. The small 5-SMD module package is easy to mount on controller PCBs inside air-handling units, and the integrated thin-film resistor compensation removes the need for manual calibration in volume production. A high-CMRR INA128 or AD620 instrumentation amplifier typically boosts the mV-level signal into the 0-10 V HVAC controller input range.
Recommandé
Portable Altimeter / Barometer
The MPXM2202A's 0-200 kPa absolute range covers sea-level barometric pressure (101.325 kPa) plus altitude excursions up to roughly 9,000 m, enabling accurate altimeter and barometer designs in portable outdoor equipment. Its 0-40 mV span at 10 V excitation drives a low-noise instrumentation amplifier front-end whose output is digitized by a low-power 16/24-bit ADC; with proper amplification, sub-meter altitude resolution is achievable. The on-chip temperature compensation from 0 to +85 °C covers outdoor consumer hiker-side frost to direct-sun summer heat without external compensation networks. The 5-SMD module package suits handheld form factors where PCB real estate is constrained.
Recommandé
Infusion Pump Pressure Monitor
In medical infusion pumps, the MPXM2202A provides accurate 0-200 kPa absolute pressure monitoring of fluid lines, supporting occlusion detection and flow-verification safety circuits. Its on-chip temperature compensation from 0 to +85 °C maintains accuracy across warm-up transients in clinical environments, and the 5-SMD module package fits the compact PCBs of modern infusion pumps. The 0-40 mV linear span at 10 V excitation, amplified by a low-noise instrumentation amplifier, drives a 16-bit ADC for real-time occlusion alarm generation. Integrated thin-film calibration eliminates manual trimpots that are problematic in medical electronics and contraindicated in high-reliability designs.
Recommandé
Process Control Pressure Loop
The MPXM2202A integrates into process-control pressure loops where 0-200 kPa absolute pressure monitoring drives valve actuation, pump control, or safety interlocks in chemical, water-treatment, and pharmaceutical plants. Its 0-40 mV span at 10 V excitation provides a clean differential output that pairs naturally with a dedicated loop-powered XTR105 4-20 mA transmitter for long-cable industrial plants. The integrated temperature compensation and laser-trimmed calibration deliver the long-term stability required for unattended 24/7 process loops, while the 5-SMD module supports compact DIN-rail-mounted sensor cards. Engineers value the eliminated external trimpots and simplified EMC-compliant analog front-end.

Notes de conception
The MPXM2202A outputs only 0-40 mV at 10 V excitation, so any noise on the excitation rail appears directly in the measurement. Use a low-noise, low-dropout regulator (e.g. LT3042 or TPS7A4700) to derive Vs from a higher-voltage rail rather than sharing a switching-converter output. Add a 0.1 uF ceramic bypass capacitor as close as possible to pin 4 (Vs) and a 10 uF tantalum or ceramic reservoir capacitor on the same node. For long cables between the sensor and instrumentation amplifier, use shielded twisted-pair wiring with the shield grounded at the amplifier end to reject common-mode noise.
The MPXM2202A is calibrated for a 10 V supply, so deviating significantly from 10 V (e.g. 5 V or 3.3 V) reduces the output span proportionally and degrades signal-to-noise ratio. Always operate the sensor at the specified 10 V excitation for which the calibration constants apply. Also note the calibrated temperature range is 0 to +85 C; outside this range, the on-chip compensation is no longer guaranteed and additional external compensation may be required. Do not expose the pressure port to pressures beyond the 200 kPa operating range without consulting the maximum overload specification in the datasheet, as overpressure can permanently deform the silicon diaphragm.
Mount the MPXM2202A on a PCB with the pressure port oriented to match the system tubing; the port style (A, AS, D, GS, DP) is fixed at the package level and cannot be modified in software. Keep analog ground separate from digital ground and use a star-ground topology returning to the low-noise LDO that powers Vs. Place the instrumentation amplifier (e.g. INA128) within 50 mm of the output pins to minimize pickup before the mV-level signal is amplified. Provide mechanical stress relief for any tubing attached to the sensor to avoid flexing the PCB or the package.
