PIC12F1571-I/P 概要

The Microchip Technology PIC12F1571-I/P is an 8-bit PIC12 RISC microcontroller IC with 32MHz CPU speed, 1.75KB (1K x 14) Flash program memory, 128 bytes SRAM, and three independent 16-bit PWMs, housed in an 8-pin PDIP through-hole package. It integrates a 10-bit ADC, a 5-bit DAC, a comparator, and the eXtreme Low-Power (XLP) feature set.

An 8-bit microcontroller is a single-chip computer that integrates a CPU, RAM, non-volatile program memory (Flash), and I/O peripherals. PIC microcontrollers use a Harvard RISC architecture with separate program and data buses, executing one instruction per clock cycle (excluding branches) - which is why the PIC12F1571-I/P achieves 32 MIPS at 32MHz CPU clock. Microcontroller ICs sit at the hierarchy of: MCU -> 8-bit MCU -> PIC12 family -> PIC12F157x sub-family. The 8-pin PDIP form factor is part of the DIP (Dual In-line Package) family of through-hole surface-mount predecessors, ideal for breadboarding and hobbyist prototyping.

Key features include three independent 16-bit Pulse-Width Modulation (PWM) channels with fine resolution for LED dimming, motor control, and switch-mode power supply (SMPS) feedback; a 10-bit Analog-to-Digital Converter (ADC) with up to 4 channels; a 5-bit Digital-to-Analog Converter (DAC); a comparator with selectable reference; on-chip 32MHz internal oscillator; and 128-byte data SRAM. The XLP feature provides nanoWatt sleep currents below 20 nA typical in sleep mode, enabling battery-powered applications that last years on a single coin cell.

The PIC12F1571-I/P uses Microchip's enhanced mid-range 14-bit instruction set, which supports interrupts with hardware context saving, an 8-deep hardware stack, and direct/indirect/relative addressing modes. The device is programmed and debugged through In-Circuit Serial Programming (ICSP) via two pins (ICSPCLK/ICSPDAT), requiring no separate programmer port. The integrated 32MHz internal oscillator with ±2% accuracy over voltage and temperature eliminates the need for an external crystal in most designs.

Typical applications include high-resolution LED lighting and color mixing, stepper motor and DC motor speed control via the 16-bit PWMs, small switch-mode power supplies, battery chargers, remote controls, IoT sensor nodes, and any space-constrained low-cost 8-pin embedded design. The combination of three 16-bit PWMs and a 5-bit DAC makes it particularly well-suited for generating complex analog waveforms or driving RGBW LEDs with fine intensity control.

When designing with this device, note that only 6 of the 8 pins are usable as general-purpose I/O because two pins are dedicated to ICSP. For production programming in-circuit, allow for the ICSP header. The device supports 2.3V to 5.5V operation, so a single 3.3V or 5V rail is sufficient.

主な用途

PIC12F1571-I/P の用途: 6 件s: High-Resolution LED Lighting and Dimming, Stepper Motor and DC Motor Speed Control, Switch-Mode Power Supply (SMPS) Feedback, Battery-Powered IoT Sensor Nodes, Remote Control and Consumer IR/RF Transmitters, Small Appliance and Hobbyist Embedded Control.

💡

High-Resolution LED Lighting and Dimming

The PIC12F1571-I/P is ideal for high-resolution LED lighting because its three independent 16-bit PWM channels deliver duty-cycle resolution finer than 0.002%, far beyond the human eye's ability to perceive step changes. Each PWM can drive a separate LED string (red, green, blue, or white) for accurate color mixing in RGB or RGBW fixtures, with the 5-bit DAC providing a precise bias reference. At 32MHz CPU, the device executes color-space conversion (HSL to RGB) and gamma correction in real time. Operating from 2.3V-5.5V, it can run directly from a single lithium cell or a 5V USB supply, while XLP sleep current below 20nA enables weeks of battery life in portable lighting products.

🏭

Stepper Motor and DC Motor Speed Control

The PIC12F1571-I/P drives small stepper motors and DC motors through its three 16-bit PWMs, which generate smooth acceleration/deceleration ramps without CPU intervention. The 16-bit resolution supports microstepping algorithms at step rates above 10kHz, suitable for NEMA 8 to NEMA 11 stepper motors in pumps, valves, and small positioning stages. The 10-bit ADC reads back the potentiometer or rotary encoder for closed-loop control, while the comparator triggers an emergency stop on overcurrent detection. The 32MHz CPU executes sensorless BEMF commutation algorithms for small brushless DC fans used in server cooling.

⚡

Switch-Mode Power Supply (SMPS) Feedback

The PIC12F1571-I/P implements digital SMPS feedback control via its 16-bit PWM and 10-bit ADC, replacing traditional analog UC3842 controllers. The high PWM resolution enables digital compensation and cycle-by-cycle current-mode control with bandwidth exceeding 50kHz, suitable for sub-50W isolated or non-isolated converters. The 5-bit DAC provides a programmable reference voltage, while the comparator implements hardware overcurrent protection that latches the PWM within 100ns. Operating from 5V, the MCU pairs with a gate driver such as the UCC27714 to control the primary-side MOSFET or synchronous rectifier.

📱

Battery-Powered IoT Sensor Nodes

The PIC12F1571-I/P serves as the central controller in IoT sensor nodes due to its XLP nanoWatt technology with sleep current below 20nA and active current of approximately 30µA/MHz. The device wakes periodically to read a sensor via the 10-bit ADC, transmits via a sub-GHz radio such as the CC1101, then returns to sleep, achieving years of battery life from a single CR2032 coin cell. The 16-bit PWMs drive status LEDs with flicker-free dimming, and the comparator monitors battery voltage for low-battery warning. Operating from 2.3V-5.5V, the MCU tolerates direct connection to both 3V coin cells and 5V USB power sources.

🎧

Remote Control and Consumer IR/RF Transmitters

The PIC12F1571-I/P is well-suited for handheld remote controls because its three 16-bit PWMs generate precise 38kHz carrier frequencies for IR transmission with sub-1% duty-cycle accuracy, improving range and battery efficiency. The 5-bit DAC can synthesize audio tones for acoustic pairing or beep feedback, while the comparator monitors the IR receiver for return-channel data. The 32MHz CPU executes RC5, NEC, or SIRC protocol stacks, and the XLP feature enables 1-year battery life on a pair of AAA cells. The 8-pin PDIP package simplifies through-hole assembly for low-volume consumer products.

🔧

Small Appliance and Hobbyist Embedded Control

The PIC12F1571-I/P is a popular choice for hobbyist projects and small appliance control because of its 8-pin PDIP through-hole form factor, which is breadboard-friendly and easy to hand-solder. The 32MHz CPU and 1.75KB Flash support state-machine control of small appliances such as fans, coffee makers, and battery chargers, while the three 16-bit PWMs drive TRIAC phase-angle control or MOSFET PWM outputs. The 10-bit ADC reads temperature sensors and potentiometers, and the integrated comparator provides safety overcurrent detection. Microchip's MPLAB X IDE with the free XC8 compiler and the PICkit 4 debugger provides a complete development ecosystem.

設計ノート

Estimated: The PIC12F1571-I/P's XLP feature achieves typical sleep current below 20nA with Watchdog Timer disabled at 3V VDD, but this rises to several µA if peripherals are not gated off before sleep. Place a 100nF decoupling capacitor as close as possible to the VDD pin (pin 1) and a 10µF bulk capacitor at the board input. For battery-powered designs using a CR2032 coin cell, use the LFINTOSC at 31kHz instead of HFINTOSC to minimize active current to ~30µA/MHz.

For 8-pin PDIP through-hole designs, route the ICSP pins (RA4/ICSPCLK on pin 3, RA5 on pin 2) to a 5-pin header footprint (0.1" pitch) even if programming is done in-circuit via pogo pins in production - this simplifies engineering bring-up and field firmware updates. Keep the ICSP traces short (less than 50mm) to avoid signal integrity issues at the ICSP clock rate. The MCLR/VPP pin (pin 4) requires a 10kΩ pull-up to VDD for normal operation; do not leave it floating.

The PIC12F1571-I/P only has 6 usable I/O pins - the two ICSP pins (RA4 and RA5) are shared with ICSP programming, and in-circuit programming requires them to be accessible even if they are repurposed as GPIO in the application. Ensure that any external circuitry on RA4/RA5 does not load the ICSP signals during programming - this includes pull-down resistors to ground, which can prevent the high-level ICSPCLK signal from reaching the required 0.8×VDD threshold. For RA5 specifically, note that it is an input-only pin (no output driver) on most PIC12F157x variants.

When using the 16-bit PWM channels for LED dimming or motor control, the high switching edges (nanosecond rise time) can couple into adjacent analog signals on RA0/RA1/RA2. Keep PWM traces short and route them away from the analog ADC inputs; add a small ferrite bead or series resistor (10-100Ω) at the PWM output if EMI is a concern. The 5-bit DAC output on RA0 is a low-impedance analog signal, so do not place a PWM output on the same pin without a multiplexer.
