PIC16F1826-I/SS 概要

The Microchip Technology PIC16F1826-I/SS is an 8-bit enhanced mid-range PIC16 family microcontroller with nanoWatt XLP ultra-low-power technology, integrating 3.5KB (2K x 14 words) of Flash program memory, 256 bytes of SRAM and 256 bytes of EEPROM, and housed in a 20-pin SSOP (5.30 mm body width) package. It executes instructions at 32 MHz from an internal oscillator, delivering 200 ns instruction cycle with 49 instructions and 16-level hardware stack. The part operates from 2.5 V to 5.5 V across an industrial -40C to +85C temperature range and provides up to 12 I/O pins.

An 8-bit PIC microcontroller is a single-chip computer built on a RISC (Reduced Instruction Set Computer) Harvard architecture, optimized for deterministic real-time control in cost-sensitive embedded designs. Within the broader taxonomy, PIC MCUs sit inside the microcontroller (MCU) category, which itself belongs to integrated circuits and, more specifically, microcontrollers. XLP (eXtreme Low Power) is Microchip's proprietary low-power process and design suite that enables sleep currents in the nanoamp range, allowing battery-powered products to extend operating life by orders of magnitude versus conventional 8-bit MCUs.

Key features include the integrated mTouch capacitive sensing module for touch-button and slider user interfaces, a Data Signal Modulator (DSM) for generating custom waveforms and conditioning sensor signals, MI2C/SPI/EUSART (with auto-baud) connectivity, an internal 32 MHz oscillator with PLL, and the standard PIC16 nanoWatt XLP power-management peripherals including ultra-low-power wake-up, watchdog timer, and brown-out reset. The 10-bit ADC with computation, up to four 10-bit PWM modules, and configurable logic cells make this part a versatile system-on-chip for mixed-signal embedded control.

Architecturally, the PIC16F1826 uses an enhanced mid-range core that adds hardware multiply, wider memory, and deeper interrupt context versus legacy baseline PIC16 devices. The 32 MHz internal oscillator eliminates external crystals in many designs, reducing BOM cost. The DSM can mix or modulate digital inputs without external components, while the mTouch peripheral supports both self- and mutual-capacitance sensing through standard GPIO pins with no external ICs.

Typical applications include battery-powered IoT sensor nodes leveraging nanoWatt XLP, capacitive touch user interfaces (keypads, sliders, proximity sensors) using the mTouch peripheral, motor and fan control with the dedicated PWM/CCP modules, and remote controls, wearables, and consumer white goods where small footprint and low BOM cost matter. Industrial sensor conditioning benefits from the DSM, ADC with computation, and EUSART for sensor networking.

When designing with the PIC16F1826-I/SS, allocate adequate decoupling (a 100 nF plus 1 uF bulk capacitor near VDD) and follow Microchip AN2164 / AN1413 layout recommendations for capacitive touch sensor routing. The SSOP-20 (5.30 mm body) is a wider-gauge plastic package than TSSOP, easing hand-soldering for prototypes while remaining compatible with SMT assembly. Configure unused I/O as outputs low to minimize current draw.

This page synthesizes distributor pricing, drop-in pin-compatible alternatives from the PIC16 family, and practical design notes not found in the manufacturer datasheet alone, helping engineers evaluate the PIC16F1826-I/SS for both new designs and as a replacement for legacy mid-range PICs.

PIC16F1826-I/SS の用途: 6 件s: Battery-Powered IoT Sensor Node, Capacitive Touch User Interface (mTouch), Industrial Sensor Signal Conditioning with DSM, DC Motor and Fan Speed Control, Consumer Remote Control and Wearable Device, Automotive Body Electronics (Sub-System).

🧩

Battery-Powered IoT Sensor Node

The PIC16F1826-I/SS is well suited to battery-powered IoT sensor nodes thanks to its nanoWatt XLP technology, which delivers sleep currents below 30 nA in deep sleep while still retaining RAM and offering fast wake-up via the WDT, ultra-low-power wake-up, or interrupt-on-change peripherals. The 32 MHz internal oscillator eliminates an external crystal, reducing BOM cost and quiescent draw. With 3.5 KB Flash and 256 bytes SRAM, the part can run Microchip's LoRa/BLE-friendly sensor stacks when paired with an external radio, or it can poll sensors locally for years on a single CR2032 coin cell.

🎧

Capacitive Touch User Interface (mTouch)

The PIC16F1826-I/SS integrates Microchip's mTouch capacitive sensing module, which supports both self- and mutual-capacitance sensing through standard GPIO pins without any external touch IC. This makes the part a natural fit for appliance keypads, slider controls, proximity wake-up surfaces, and white-goods human-machine interfaces. The 32 MHz core easily handles scan rates above 100 Hz for 8-12 touch channels while remaining below 2 mA active. The wide 2.5-5.5 V supply lets the same firmware drive both 3.3 V and 5 V touch panels.

🏭

Industrial Sensor Signal Conditioning with DSM

The Data Signal Modulator (DSM) inside the PIC16F1826-I/SS can mix, modulate, or condition digital sensor signals without external op-amps or analog multipliers, making it valuable for industrial sensor interfaces such as AC line zero-cross detection, PWM-encoded transducer readout, and chopper-stabilized amplifier demodulation. Combined with the 10-bit ADC and computation engine, the MCU can perform on-chip RMS calculation and thresholding. The 32 MHz throughput handles 4 ms conversion loops while leaving headroom for EUSART-based RS-485 sensor networking at 115 kbaud.

⚡

DC Motor and Fan Speed Control

The PIC16F1826-I/SS provides up to four 10-bit PWM channels with complementary outputs, dead-band control, and configurable fault shutdown, which is enough to drive a single BLDC or brushed-DC motor in appliance fan, pump, and small-tool applications. The 32 MHz instruction rate supports field-oriented control loops for low-RPM BLDC fans, and the integrated op-amp core option (where available in this family) allows direct current sensing. Combined with the EUSART, the same MCU can drive the motor and communicate with a master controller over UART.

📱

Consumer Remote Control and Wearable Device

The PIC16F1826-I/SS suits consumer remote controls and wearables where every microwatt counts and the user interface is a matrix of mechanical buttons or low-cost capacitive pads. nanoWatt XLP sleep below 30 nA lets a coin-cell-powered remote operate for years. The internal 32 MHz oscillator removes the need for an external resonator, shrinking the PCB. The EUSART and MI2C/SPI peripherals let the MCU talk to a sub-GHz or BLE companion IC without taxing the 8-bit core.

🚗

Automotive Body Electronics (Sub-System)

For non-safety automotive body electronics - interior lighting, seat controllers, mirror adjustment, climate panel keypads - the PIC16F1826-I/SS provides ample 8-bit performance, 32 MHz throughput, and industrial-temperature silicon that survives the -40C to +85C cabin range. For under-hood and safety-critical loads, designers should step up to PIC16F1826-E/SS (extended -40C to +125C) or to a PIC18/AEC-Q100-qualified part. The mTouch peripheral replaces mechanical switches in dashboard controls, reducing assembly cost and improving reliability in wet environments.

What is the operating voltage range of PIC16F1826-I/SS?
The PIC16F1826-I/SS operates from 2.5 V to 5.5 V over the industrial -40C to +85C temperature range. According to the Microchip PIC16F/LF1826/1827 datasheet, the device is designed for direct battery and 3.3 V/5 V rail operation, with nanoWatt XLP technology enabling extended run-time on coin-cell and 2x AA battery stacks. The wide voltage range allows both 3.3 V and 5 V designs without level shifting.
What is the flash memory size of PIC16F1826-I/SS?
The PIC16F1826-I/SS contains 3.5 KB of Flash program memory organized as 2K x 14 words, plus 256 bytes of data SRAM and 256 bytes of data EEPROM. The 14-bit wide Flash word accommodates the enhanced mid-range instruction set with hardware multiply. Flash self-read/write capability lets the firmware use the program memory for non-volatile data tables, expanding usable storage beyond the 256-byte EEPROM in data-intensive applications.
How fast does the PIC16F1826-I/SS execute instructions?
The PIC16F1826-I/SS runs at up to 32 MHz from the internal oscillator, delivering a 125 ns instruction cycle (4 Fosc divisions, 8 MHz equivalent MIPS). The internal PLL multiplies a 16 MHz base to the 32 MHz top speed, eliminating external crystals in most designs. Each enhanced mid-range instruction executes in one cycle, so 8 MIPS of throughput is available with deterministic interrupt latency critical for real-time control loops.
What package does the PIC16F1826-I/SS use?
The PIC16F1826-I/SS ships in a 20-pin SSOP (Shrink Small Outline Package) with 5.30 mm body width and 0.65 mm pin pitch. The SSOP designation is the trailing /SS in the part number. The wide-body SSOP is easier to hand-solder than TSSOP for prototypes and remains compatible with standard SMT assembly lines. Pin 1 is identified by the dot/indent marker on the package top.
Is the PIC16F1826-I/SS drop-in compatible with PIC16F1826-I/SO?
No. The PIC16F1826-I/SS (SSOP-20) and PIC16F1826-I/SO (SOIC-20) are NOT pin-compatible drop-in alternatives because the SSOP and SOIC packages have different body widths (5.30 mm vs 7.50 mm) and different land patterns. Engineers must choose the /SS or /SO variant at board design time and cannot swap them in production without PCB rework. The silicon die is identical between the two, so firmware is portable.
Where can I buy PIC16F1826-I/SS online and what is the price?
As of 2026-09-20, the PIC16F1826-I/SS is in stock at authorized distributors including DigiKey, Mouser, Arrow, and Microchip Direct, with 1-piece pricing around $1.84 USD and 1000-piece pricing near $1.18 USD. Octopart aggregates 13 distributor listings for real-time stock and lead-time comparison. XAIPART also stocks the part in tape-and-reel packaging. For large OEM volumes, request a quote from Microchip Direct for the best factory-direct pricing.
What is the lead time for PIC16F1826-I/SS?
As of 2026-09-20, the PIC16F1826-I/SS ships from stock at major distributors with same-day dispatch on orders placed before 5 PM local time. Factory lead times from Microchip are typically 6-12 weeks for higher-quantity reels. The part is in active production and not at end-of-life, so allocation risk is low compared to older PIC16F parts that have entered NRND status.
What is the difference between PIC16F1826-I/SS and PIC16F1827-I/SS?
The PIC16F1827-I/SS doubles the Flash program memory to 7 KB (4K x 14), increases SRAM to 384 bytes, and adds more peripheral instances, while the PIC16F1826-I/SS offers 3.5 KB Flash and 256 bytes SRAM. Both share the same SSOP-20 footprint and pinout, making the PIC16F1827-I/SS a drop-in upgrade when more memory is needed. The PIC16F1827 is the preferred choice for applications approaching the 3.5 KB ceiling.
When should I choose PIC16F1826-I/SS over PIC16F1823-I/SS?
Choose the PIC16F1826-I/SS over the PIC16F1823-I/SS when you need the mTouch capacitive sensing module, the Data Signal Modulator (DSM), and the larger 3.5 KB Flash. The PIC16F1823 has only 2 KB Flash and lacks mTouch/DSM, so it targets simpler GPIO/timer tasks. For SSOP-20 boards requiring capacitive touch or analog signal conditioning, the PIC16F1826-I/SS is the correct selection. Choose PIC16F1823 only for cost-down designs where those peripherals are not used.
What is the best drop-in replacement for PIC16F1826-I/SS?
The best drop-in replacement for PIC16F1826-I/SS in the SSOP-20 footprint is the PIC16F1827-I/SS, which doubles Flash and SRAM while keeping the identical pinout and core. For an exact silicon match, the PIC16F1826-E/SS (extended temperature -40C to +125C) is a direct substitute in the same package. The PIC16F1825-I/SL offers similar peripherals in a narrower SOIC-14, which is NOT drop-in due to the different footprint - it is a board redesign, not a replacement.
Where can I download the PIC16F1826-I/SS datasheet PDF?
The official PIC16F1826-I/SS datasheet PDF is available on the Microchip website product page at https://www.microchip.com/en-us/product/PIC16F1826 under the Documentation tab. Datasheet mirrors are also hosted at alldatasheet.com and digchip.com. The datasheet covers the PIC16F/LF1826/1827 family in 406 pages, including electrical characteristics, peripheral driver libraries, and mTouch design guidelines.
Where is the PIC16F1826-I/SS pinout located?
The PIC16F1826-I/SS pinout diagram is shown in Section 2.0 of the manufacturer datasheet under the SSOP-20 pin allocation table. Pin 1 is VDD, with the mTouch-capable ports on PORTA and the EUSART/SPI/I2C peripherals on PORTC. The XAIPART product page also renders an SVG pinout diagram using the canonical SSOP-20 layout. For board layout, follow Microchip AN1413 for mTouch sensor routing.
What is the best cross-brand equivalent for PIC16F1826-I/SS?
There is no widely accepted cross-brand drop-in replacement for the PIC16F1826-I/SS in SSOP-20 because PIC16 peripherals, register maps, and the Harvard architecture are unique to Microchip. The closest functional equivalents are Microchip's own PIC16F1827-I/SS (same package, more memory) or PIC18F family parts like PIC18F13K22-I/SS, which requires a different toolchain and firmware rewrite. Engineer-to-engineer, treat any cross-brand MCU alternative as a board redesign, not a drop-in.
What are the key specifications of PIC16F1826-I/SS that engineers should know?
The PIC16F1826-I/SS combines 8-bit enhanced mid-range core at 32 MHz (125 ns instruction cycle), 3.5 KB Flash, 256 bytes SRAM, 256 bytes EEPROM, 12 I/O pins, 2.5-5.5 V supply, and integrated mTouch capacitive sensing plus Data Signal Modulator in a 20-pin SSOP package. Engineers should note the 16-level hardware stack limits nested interrupts, and the nanoWatt XLP sleep currents drop below 30 nA in deep sleep for coin-cell designs.

選定ガイド

Choose the PIC16F1826-I/SS when you need an 8-bit PIC MCU with capacitive touch sensing (mTouch) and signal conditioning (DSM) in a 20-pin SSOP package, with 3.5 KB Flash and 256 bytes SRAM sufficient for compact control loops. For designs that may outgrow 3.5 KB Flash, choose the PIC16F1827-I/SS (same SSOP-20 footprint, 7 KB Flash, drop-in upgrade). For under-hood automotive or industrial environments exceeding +85C, use the PIC16F1826-E/SS extended temperature variant in the same package. Choose the PIC16F1825-I/SS only if you need 14 KB Flash; otherwise the PIC16F1826-I/SS offers the best Flash-vs-cost balance. Cross-brand 8-bit alternatives are not drop-in due to PIC-specific architecture; if cross-architecture migration is needed, treat it as a board redesign.

設計ノート

The PIC16F1826-I/SS nanoWatt XLP technology supports sleep currents below 30 nA in the deepest sleep mode with RAM retention. To achieve this, configure all unused I/O pins as outputs driven low, disable unused peripherals via the PMD (Peripheral Module Disable) registers, and switch the system clock to the 31 kHz LFINTOSC before issuing the SLEEP instruction. Brown-out reset (BOR) should be left enabled in battery-powered designs to prevent Flash corruption on weak cells.

For mTouch capacitive sensing applications, follow Microchip application note AN1413 for PCB layout. Place a 100 nF decoupling capacitor within 3 mm of the VDD pin and a 1 uF bulk capacitor on the same rail. Keep mTouch sensor traces short (under 50 mm where possible), surround them with a hatched ground guard ring, and route them away from switching power and clock traces. The SSOP-20 (5.30 mm body) gives reasonable trace width under the package for guard traces if needed.

The PIC16F1826-I/SS SSOP-20 package is wider than TSSOP-20 (5.30 mm vs 4.40 mm body) - do not mix SSOP and TSSOP footprints when designing a board, they are NOT interchangeable. The PIC16F1826-I/ML QFN-20 variant is also not a drop-in replacement because the QFN has a different pinout arrangement. Always verify the trailing package code (/SS, /SO, /P, /ML, /SL) matches your PCB land pattern before ordering. MCLR must be pulled high through a 10 kohm resistor unless the internal MCLR is disabled in configuration bits.

When using the internal 32 MHz oscillator with the PLL, allow at least 2 ms after startup for the PLL to lock before switching to HFINTOSC as the system clock. For SPI communications above 4 MHz, use the MSSP peripheral in master mode and keep trace lengths under 50 mm on the board. The EUSART auto-baud feature requires a 0x55 sync character from the host before normal UART communication; design the firmware to handle this initial handshake.
