Typical Applications
AD5412ACPZ is suitable for 6 applications: Industrial Process Control, Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), Actuator Control, HART Network Transmitters, Test and Measurement Equipment, Building Automation.
Industrial Process Control
The AD5412ACPZ is ideal for industrial process control systems where precise analog output is required. Its programmable current output (4-20 mA) directly drives actuators and valves, while the voltage output can interface with PLCs. The device's ±0.1% FSR TUE ensures accurate control, and its wide supply range (10.8V to 40V) accommodates industrial power rails. The HART interface enables smart transmitter communication over the same loop, reducing wiring complexity.
Recommended
Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs)
In PLCs, the AD5412ACPZ provides analog output channels for controlling external devices. Its serial interface (SPI, QSPI, MICROWIRE, DSP) easily connects to microcontrollers, and its multiple output ranges (0-10V, 4-20mA) offer flexibility. The device's fast settling time (10µs current) allows rapid updates in control loops. The LFCSP package saves board space, and the wide temperature range (-40°C to +125°C) ensures reliability in industrial environments.
Recommended
Actuator Control
The AD5412ACPZ is well-suited for actuator control in industrial automation. Its current output can directly drive 4-20 mA actuators, eliminating the need for external converters. The device's high accuracy (±0.1% FSR) ensures precise positioning, and its programmable ranges allow adaptation to different actuator types. The HART interface enables remote configuration and diagnostics, improving system maintainability.
Recommended
HART Network Transmitters
The AD5412ACPZ is designed for HART (Highway Addressable Remote Transducer) network transmitters. Its built-in HART connectivity allows digital communication over the same two wires used for the analog current loop, enabling smart transmitter functionality. The device's current output (4-20 mA) is standard for HART, and its low TUE ensures reliable data transmission. This makes it ideal for pressure, temperature, and flow transmitters in process plants.
Recommended
Test and Measurement Equipment
In test and measurement equipment, the AD5412ACPZ provides accurate analog outputs for calibration and signal generation. Its programmable voltage and current outputs cover a wide range of test scenarios. The device's fast settling time and low TUE make it suitable for automated test systems. The serial interface allows easy integration with digital control, and the compact LFCSP package is ideal for portable instruments.
Recommended
Building Automation
The AD5412ACPZ is used in building automation systems for controlling HVAC actuators, valves, and lighting. Its 4-20 mA current output is compatible with many building control devices, and its voltage output can drive 0-10 V inputs. The device's wide supply range and low power consumption make it suitable for distributed control nodes. The HART interface can be used for remote monitoring and diagnostics in large installations.

Design Notes
The AD5412ACPZ requires a clean analog supply (AVDD) and digital supply (DVDD). Decouple each supply pin with a 10 µF tantalum capacitor in parallel with a 0.1 µF ceramic capacitor placed as close to the pins as possible. The BOOST pin may require an external supply up to 40V for current output compliance; ensure adequate decoupling on this pin as well.
For optimal performance, use a solid ground plane and separate analog and digital ground areas, connecting them at a single point near the device. Keep the REFIN pin bypassed with a 0.1 µF capacitor to ground. Route the current output (IOUT) and voltage output (VOUT) traces away from digital signals to minimize noise coupling.
Ensure the supply voltage is within the specified range (10.8V to 40V) to avoid damage. The CLEAR pin should be tied to a defined logic level to prevent unintended resets. When using the internal reference, do not load REFOUT with more than 10 µA. For HART operation, ensure the HART_IN and HART_OUT pins are properly connected to the HART modem.
