AMC3330DWER Visão geral

The Texas Instruments AMC3330DWER is a precision, ±1-V input, reinforced isolated amplifier with an integrated isolated DC/DC converter, packaged in a 16-pin SOIC (DWE) wide-body package with 5 kV RMS reinforced isolation per IEC 60747-17. The device combines a differential input front-end optimized for high-impedance voltage sensing with a 2nd-order sigma-delta modulator followed by a digital isolation barrier and a single-ended analog output, providing a fixed differential gain of 2.0.

An isolated amplifier (also called an isolation amp or iso-amp) is a specialized analog IC that uses an internal galvanic isolation barrier - typically based on capacitive or transformer coupling - to transmit an analog signal across a high-voltage domain while rejecting common-mode transients. Within the broader power-management signal-chain hierarchy, isolated amplifiers sit between the high-voltage sensing node (shunt resistor, resistor divider, or transducer) and the low-voltage controller (MCU, ADC, DSP), making them a subcategory of special-purpose amplifiers that bridges signal conditioning and functional safety. The AMC3330 belongs to TI's AMC33xx family of reinforced isolated amplifiers and is targeted at high-voltage system monitoring.

Key features include ±1 V differential input range with 1.2 MΩ input impedance optimized for direct connection to high-impedance resistor dividers, ±0.2% maximum gain error, ±45 ppm/°C maximum gain drift, 86 dB minimum DC common-mode rejection ratio (CMRR), and a low-side single 3.3 V or 5 V supply thanks to the on-chip isolated DC/DC converter. A diagnostic output and fault-detection pin simplify system-level design, while the wide-body SOIC-16 (DWE) package provides >8 mm creepage/clearance for reinforced insulation.

Architecturally, the AMC3330 integrates a 2nd-order sigma-delta modulator clocked internally, a digital isolation channel based on TI's capacitive SiO2 barrier technology, and an integrated flyback-style DC/DC converter that powers the high-side input circuitry from the low-side 3.3 V/5 V supply. The output is a differential analog voltage proportional to the differential input times the fixed gain of 2.0, with bandwidth and noise performance optimized for voltage (rather than current) sensing.

Typical applications include high-voltage bus voltage monitoring in solar inverters, EV traction-inverter DC-link sensing, industrial motor-drive DC-bus measurement, UPS and battery-management system (BMS) voltage monitoring, and any precision non-ground-referenced voltage measurement where reinforced isolation is mandated by safety standards. The high input impedance eliminates the need for a high-side buffer op-amp, simplifying BOM.

When designing with this device, place the sense resistor divider close to the INP/INN pins and keep the layout of both connections symmetrical to preserve CMRR. Decoupling capacitors must be placed as close as possible to the supply pins, and the low-side ground reference must be solid to avoid ground-loop noise coupling into the analog output. Because the device operates from a single low-side supply, no isolated bias supply is needed - this is a major BOM-saving advantage over discrete isolated-amplifier designs.

Aplicações típicas

AMC3330DWER é adequado para 6 aplicaçãos: Solar Inverter DC-Bus Voltage Monitoring, EV Traction Inverter DC-Link Voltage Sensing, Industrial Motor Drive DC-Bus Measurement, Battery Management System (BMS) High-Voltage Monitoring, Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) Voltage Sensing, Precision Non-Grounded Signal Measurement.

⚡

Solar Inverter DC-Bus Voltage Monitoring

The AMC3330DWER is ideally suited for monitoring the 600-1500 V DC bus in string and central solar inverters where reinforced isolation is mandatory for operator safety. The 5 kV RMS reinforced isolation per IEC 60747-17 exceeds the 1500 V DC bus working-voltage requirements of utility-scale photovoltaic systems, while the high 1.2 MΩ differential input impedance allows direct connection to a high-ohmic resistor divider (typically 5-10 MΩ total) without loading-induced measurement error. The integrated DC/DC converter eliminates the need for an isolated bias supply, saving BOM cost and PCB area. Across the -40 °C to +125 °C industrial temperature range, the ±45 ppm/°C gain drift keeps measurement uncertainty below 0.6% over a 100 K temperature span. Place the resistor divider close to the INP/INN pins and keep the layout symmetrical to preserve the 86 dB DC CMRR.

🚗

EV Traction Inverter DC-Link Voltage Sensing

For 400-800 V EV traction inverters, the AMC3330DWER provides reinforced isolation between the high-voltage DC-link and the low-voltage MCU/ADC domain. The fixed gain of 2.0 V/V translates the ±1 V input to a ±2 V differential analog output that maps directly into a 3.3 V ADC input range, eliminating external signal-conditioning stages. The wide-body SOIC-16 (DWE) package provides the >8 mm creepage required for reinforced insulation at 800 V working voltage per IEC 60664-1. The fault/diagnostic output pin simplifies ISO 26262 ASIL-rated functional-safety designs by reporting loss-of-VDD or input-overrange conditions to the system controller. Compared to discrete optocoupler-based isolation, the AMC3330's capacitive SiO2 isolation barrier delivers higher CMTI and longer operating life.

🏭

Industrial Motor Drive DC-Bus Measurement

Variable-frequency drives (VFDs) for industrial motors operate from 400-690 V AC rectified DC buses where reinforced isolation is needed between the power stage and the control MCU. The AMC3330DWER's ±1 V input range accepts the output of a 1000:1 resistor divider directly, and the high input impedance prevents divider-loading error. The 86 dB DC CMRR rejects common-mode noise from the IGBT switching edges (typical dV/dt of 5-10 kV/µs in 690 V drives), preserving measurement accuracy across the full switching frequency range. The integrated isolated DC/DC converter means only one low-side 3.3 V or 5 V supply is required, simplifying the auxiliary power design in space-constrained IPM-style drive modules.

⚡

Battery Management System (BMS) High-Voltage Monitoring

In lithium-ion battery management systems with 400 V or 800 V packs (typical of modern EVs and grid storage), the AMC3330DWER can monitor the pack voltage via a precision resistor divider with reinforced isolation to the BMS controller. The ±0.2% maximum gain error and ±45 ppm/°C drift provide the absolute accuracy needed for state-of-charge (SOC) calculations, and the high input impedance prevents current draw from the divider that would unbalance cell monitoring. The integrated DC/DC converter eliminates the need for an isolated auxiliary supply rail, reducing standby power consumption in always-on battery systems. The fault/diagnostic pin enables the BMS to detect isolation-barrier degradation as part of functional-safety diagnostics.

🖥️

Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) Voltage Sensing

Online UPS systems for data centers and industrial loads monitor both the AC-mains input and the battery-bus voltage with reinforced isolation. The AMC3330DWER is well-suited for the DC-bus voltage sense path: the wide input range of ±1 V accommodates the divider output across the full battery discharge curve (from 540 V float to 360 V cutoff for a 480 V UPS battery string). The 5 kV RMS isolation exceeds the IEEE 587 / UL 1778 surge-withstand requirements for UPS equipment, and the high 1.2 MΩ input impedance prevents measurement drift from the high-impedance divider network. The low-side single 3.3 V or 5 V supply simplifies the UPS control-board power architecture.

🎧

Precision Non-Grounded Signal Measurement

Many test-and-measurement and medical-isolation applications require the precise measurement of floating (non-ground-referenced) analog signals where the input common-mode voltage can swing hundreds of volts above the measurement-system ground. The AMC3330DWER's reinforced isolation barrier blocks these common-mode voltages while accurately transmitting the differential measurement across the barrier. The fixed gain of 2.0 V/V and low gain error make it ideal for instrumentation channels where calibrated absolute accuracy is required. Combined with the integrated DC/DC converter, the AMC3330 provides a complete single-chip solution that would otherwise require a discrete op-amp, an isolated modulator, an isolated DC/DC, and a digital isolator.

Notas de projeto

Place the high-impedance resistor divider as close as possible to the AMC3330DWER INP and INN pins and keep the layout of both connections symmetrical. Any mismatch in trace length or impedance between INP and INN will degrade the 86 dB DC CMRR. According to the TI datasheet, decoupling capacitors must be placed as close as possible to the VDD1 supply pin. Use a wide ground plane on the low-side to avoid ground-loop noise coupling into the analog output. Estimated: with 5 mm trace mismatch, CMRR degradation is roughly 6-10 dB at 100 kHz due to common-mode-to-differential conversion.

The AMC3330DWER integrates an isolated flyback DC/DC converter that generates the high-side supply internally from the low-side 3.3 V or 5 V rail. No external isolated bias supply is required, which significantly simplifies the BOM. However, the integrated converter draws additional low-side current at start-up (inrush), so provide a low-ESR 1 µF to 10 µF decoupling capacitor on VDD1. Avoid sharing VDD1 with high-current digital logic to prevent noise coupling into the analog output. Estimated: typical low-side quiescent current is 20-30 mA under normal operation.

Do not exceed the absolute maximum differential input voltage of ±1 V on INP/INN - overdriving the input will saturate the modulator and may damage the input ESD structures. Always include series input resistors (typically 1 kΩ to 10 kΩ) to limit input current during transients. The fault/diagnostic output (FLT) is active-high and indicates either loss of high-side supply or input overrange; tie it to a GPIO on the system MCU for fault monitoring. Do not load the OUTP/OUTN pins with capacitive loads exceeding 20 pF directly to avoid instability.
