CJ2602-000 Visão geral
A connector backshell is a mechanical accessory that mounts behind a circular or rectangular connector body to provide cable support, environmental sealing, EMI shielding, or strain relief. Backshells sit in the interconnect accessory hierarchy above cable clamps and below connector housings; this type is a heat-shrink adapter, meaning the boot is molded onto the cable jacket thermally rather than crimped or potted. The CJ2602-000 combines a machined aluminum adapter body (olive-drab cadmium over electroless nickel is the standard Raychem finish) with a Raychem ATUM or similar polyolefin shrink sleeve.
Key features include an M12x1 thread for engagement to size-9A shell, anti-decoupling mechanism (self-locking per the TXR40SJ00-0806BI specification), compatibility with -55C to +200C operating temperature, and 360-degree shield termination via the boot. The strain-relief geometry reduces cable-axial load on the solder or crimp contacts inside the connector by an order of magnitude when properly heat-shrunk.
The technical architecture relies on TE Connectivity's qualified Raychem molding compound formulation, qualified to the relevant sections of MIL-PRF-85049 and AS85049 for environmental backshells. The component carries TE's TXR40SJ00-0806BI internal specification and ships with full traceability paperwork. The thread coupling torque is typically 8-12 N·m depending on shell size and material.
Typical applications include military tactical radios, avionics LRUs (line-replaceable units), naval combat-system electronics, ground-vehicle vetronics, and industrial-grade sealed sensor harnesses where the cable must survive flexure, fluid immersion, or sand/dust ingress. CJ2602-000 is regularly specified on platforms such as the Raytheon AN/PRC-155 and other US/Joint-Service programs.
When designing-in CJ2602-000, verify cable-jacket outer diameter matches the supplied shrink-boot range; also confirm the connector shell is size 9A per MIL-DTL-38999 before installation. Failure to respect the heat-gun shrink temperature (typically 110C minimum recovery) will produce a defective seal.

Aplicações típicas
CJ2602-000 é adequado para 6 aplicaçãos: Military Tactical Radio Cable Assemblies, Avionics LRU Backplane Harnesses, Naval Combat-System Electronics, Ground Vehicle Vetronics Harnesses, Industrial Sealed Sensor Cables, Outdoor Surveillance and C5ISR Systems.
Military Tactical Radio Cable Assemblies
The CJ2602-000 provides environmental sealing and strain relief on size-9A MIL-DTL-38999 cable harnesses inside tactical radios such as the AN/PRC-155 two-channel leader radio. With M12x1 thread engagement and an operating range of -55C to +200C, the part survives the MIL-STD-810 shock, vibration, and immersion profiles the radio platform is qualified to. A Raychem ATUM polyolefin boot on the rear shroud seals the cable jacket against rain, dust, and jet-fuel exposure during field deployment. The self-locking anti-decoupling ring prevents the backshell from unscrewing under chassis vibration, which is a documented failure mode in non-self-locking variants. For harness builders, this backshell reduces contact-side load by an order of magnitude versus free-hanging cables.

Avionics LRU Backplane Harnesses
Avionics line-replaceable units on rotorcraft and fixed-wing platforms use CJ2602-000 to terminate harnesses entering the LRU enclosure through size-9A D38999 receptacles. The heat-shrink adapter design supports cable flexure during maintenance cycles, and the olive-drab cadmium finish resists aviation hydraulic fluid and Skydrol exposure per MIL-PRF-85049. Compared to potting-only environmental seals, the CJ2602-000 boot design enables field repair because the boot can be re-shrunk after rework without disassembling the connector. Supplied through the TE Aerospace, Defense and Marine channel for flight-qualified OEM programs, the part is the default heat-shrink backshell referenced in many OEM drawings.

Naval Combat-System Electronics
On surface combatants and submarines, CJ2602-000 is used in machinery-control and combat-system interconnects where salt-spray, humidity, and constant vibration are mission-environment constraints. The Raychem TXR40SJ00-0806BI qualification covers the immersion and salt-fog profiles required by NAVSEA standards, and the cadmium-over-nickel plating resists galvanic corrosion in marine atmosphere. The size-9A M12x1 thread mates with the standard MIL-DTL-38999 insert arrangements used in fire-control, sonar, and integrated bridge electronics. Self-locking retention ensures the backshell cannot loosen under engine-room vibration, which would otherwise expose the cable-to-connector interface to salt water.

Ground Vehicle Vetronics Harnesses
Heavy and tactical ground-vehicle vetronics routinely specify CJ2602-000 to seal the chassis-to-remote-unit harnesses where they enter crew-station and engine-bay electronics boxes. The size-9A D38999 receptacle plus M12x1 backshell threaded interface is MIL-STD-810 qualified for shock and vibration across the wheeled and tracked vehicle envelope. The polyolefin boot is rated for the -55C to +200C range encountered in desert and arctic operations, and the cadmium finish resists diesel-fuel splash and road-debris abrasion. Field deployment of this backshell reduces connector-related warranty returns caused by cable flexure at the backshell exit.

Industrial Sealed Sensor Cables
Industrial-grade sealed sensor assemblies installed in chemical plants, oil platforms, and outdoor sensor stations frequently use the CJ2602-000 for its watertight boot seal and -55C to +200C operating envelope. The M12x1 thread on a size-9A D38999 receptacle makes the harness compatible with off-the-shelf 4-pin and 6-pin signal inserts, and the heat-shrink boot can be deployed with a standard heat gun without special tooling. For HART-protocol, 4-20 mA, and CAN-bus sensor cables this backshell design protects against washdown ingress to IP67/IP68 conditions when properly shrunk. The self-locking anti-decoupling ring is valuable in plant environments with constant equipment vibration.

Outdoor Surveillance and C5ISR Systems
Outdoor C5ISR (Command, Control, Communications, Computers, Cyber, Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance) sensor nodes and pan-tilt surveillance cameras are increasingly specified to MIL-spec interconnect standards for tamper and weather resistance. The CJ2602-000 seals size-9A signal connectors carrying Ethernet, RS-485, or fiber-optic contacts that exit the housing into the outdoor cable run. The Raychem TXR40SJ00-0806BI self-locking design eliminates a service call cause for loosening backshells under wind-induced vibration on tower mounts and vehicle-mounted masts. Operating temperatures across -55C to +200C cover the arctic-to-desert deployment range used by C5ISR programs.

Notas de projeto
The standard CJ2602-000 ships with olive-drab cadmium-over-nickel plating, which is NOT RoHS compliant. For any design that must meet RoHS, specify a cadmium-free variant (nickel-PTFE or black zinc) from TE at the time of quote, since the catalog MPN defaults to cadmium finish. Mixing cadmium-plated and cadmium-free backshells on the same harness can produce galvanic-couple corrosion at the boot-to-connector interface when moisture is present.
Select the polyolefin Raychem ATUM boot by cable OD: the supplied (as-molded) boot ID must be greater than the cable maximum diameter, and the recovered (after 110C shrink) ID must be less than the cable minimum diameter, so the boot tightens to a watertight seal. Shrinking the wrong boot size produces either a loose seal (cold-flow leak) or splits the boot on installation — both modes lead to field failure well before the harness design life.
Heat the boot with a calibrated heat gun at 110-180C; do not exceed 200C because the ATUM material begins to scorch above that temperature. Apply heat evenly around the circumference starting at the connector end, then move toward the cable jacket. For field repairs, a re-shrink on the existing boot is acceptable, but if the boot has visible cracking or char, replace it before reinstalling the harness into service.
Verify the connector insert arrangement matches the shell size before installing the backshell. A size-9A shell accepts many insert arrangements including 09-35, 09-98, and 09-04; using the wrong insert on the wrong backshell can leave contacts unpopulated or block proper boot orientation. Always reference the MIL-DTL-38999 insert arrangement chart when designing a new harness.
