PIC16F1527T-I/PT Visão geral

The Microchip Technology PIC16F1527T-I/PT is an 8-bit PIC16 family microcontroller built on Microchip's enhanced mid-range core, delivering 20 MHz CPU performance (200 ns instruction cycle) with 28 KB of self-programmable Flash program memory and 1.5 KB of SRAM in a 64-pin TQFP (PT) package supplied on tape and reel. Headline parameters include 28 KB Flash (16K x 14 words), 1.5 KB RAM, 256 B EEPROM, 20 MHz maximum clock, and a 1.8 V to 5.5 V wide operating voltage range. The device belongs to the PIC16F152x family which integrates 12-bit ADC, multiple timers, EUSART, MSSP (SPI/I2C) peripherals, and Microchip's nanoWatt XLP ultra-low-power technology.

An 8-bit microcontroller (MCU) is a single-chip computer that integrates a CPU, RAM, non-volatile program memory, peripherals and I/O on one die. Within the semiconductor taxonomy, an MCU sits under microcontroller -> embedded processor -> integrated circuit -> semiconductor. The '8-bit' designation refers to the native data bus width; PIC16 MCUs use a modified Harvard RISC architecture with separate program and data buses, which accelerates instruction fetch and allows single-cycle execution for most instructions. This family is widely used in cost-sensitive, low-power embedded designs where deterministic real-time behaviour matters more than raw throughput.

Key features of the PIC16F1527T-I/PT include 28 KB Flash with self-programmability, 1.5 KB SRAM, 256 B EEPROM, a 12-bit differential ADC with computed channels, up to 54 digital I/O pins, four 8-bit timers plus two CCP and one ECCP module, two EUSART, two MSSP (SPI/I2C), an integrated temperature indicator, and nanoWatt XLP sleep currents below 1 uA. The 64-TQFP package measures 10 x 10 mm with a 0.5 mm lead pitch.

Architecturally, the PIC16F1527T-I/PT uses a 14-bit instruction word and a 16-level hardware stack, with an interrupt controller supporting both core and peripheral interrupt sources. The 12-bit ADC is supported by a dedicated FVR (Fixed Voltage Reference) and a DAC, enabling ratiometric measurements and on-chip analogue signal conditioning without external components.

Typical applications include consumer appliance control, sensor interface modules, battery-powered handheld instruments, simple motor and lighting controllers, and industrial sensor hubs. The wide 1.8-5.5 V supply range allows direct operation from 2xAA/AAA cells or 3.3 V/5 V regulated rails. When designing with this MCU, confirm that the application's interrupt latency budget is compatible with the 20 MHz core; pin remapping is limited and I/O assignments should be planned during PCB layout. Aplicações típicas

PIC16F1527T-I/PT é adequado para 6 aplicaçãos: Consumer Appliance Control, Battery-Powered Sensor Hubs, Industrial Sensor and Actuator Nodes, LED Lighting Controllers, HMI / Display Driver Modules, Low-Cost Data Acquisition Front-End.

🏭

Consumer Appliance Control

The PIC16F1527T-I/PT's 54 I/O pins and 20 MHz core give it enough peripheral bandwidth to drive multi-segment user interfaces while still handling real-time control loops in small kitchen and white-goods appliances. Its 12-bit ADC handles temperature sensing from NTCs or thermocouples via op-amp front-ends, while the two CCP/ECCP modules deliver PWM outputs for brushed DC or simple BLDC motor drivers. The 1.8 V to 5.5 V supply range lets the MCU share a 3.3 V or 5 V rail with logic, simplifying the BOM. Compared with switching regulators the linear supply stage is cheap, and nanoWatt XLP sleep below 1 uA keeps standby power for Energy Star ratings. Pair it with the MCP1700 3.3 V LDO and MCP9808 temperature sensor for a typical small-appliance reference design.

🔋

Battery-Powered Sensor Hubs

The PIC16F1527T-I/PT suits multi-channel sensor hubs operating from two AA cells where its nanoWatt XLP technology with sub-1 uA sleep current extends battery life into years. The 12-bit ADC samples up to 30 analogue channels with the integrated FVR for ratiometric measurements, while two EUSART and two MSSP interfaces carry SPI or I2C sensor traffic to a host. The wide 1.8 V to 5.5 V supply lets the MCU run directly from a fresh 3 V lithium pair down to 2.0 V without a boost converter, reducing cost and quiescent loss. Internal 256 B EEPROM stores calibration constants that survive deep sleep, avoiding external NVRAM. The 28 KB Flash is comfortable for sensor-fusion firmware with command-line diagnostics.

🏭

Industrial Sensor and Actuator Nodes

The PIC16F1527T-I/PT is well suited for industrial 24 V/4-20 mA sensor nodes when paired with a step-down regulator, where its 5.5 V absolute maximum and robust -40 C to +85 C industrial range tolerate plant-floor transients. The 12-bit ADC achieves 1 mV resolution at 3.3 V full-scale, sufficient for bridge and RTD sensors with on-chip FVR providing a stable reference. Two EUSART modules enable simultaneous Modbus RTU on RS-485 and a local debug console without protocol contention. The 64-TQFP package offers enough I/O for digital inputs, relay drivers and status LEDs without external expanders. nanoWatt XLP keeps idle nodes within IEC 61010 standby budgets, and the industrial temp range covers most outdoor cabinets.

💡

LED Lighting Controllers

The PIC16F1527T-I/PT drives multi-channel LED luminaires where its four 16-bit CCP/ECCP modules deliver high-resolution PWM at frequencies above the audible band, eliminating PWM whine while keeping dimming ratios down to 0.1 percent. The 12-bit ADC samples ambient-light photodiodes and potentiometer dimmers with enough resolution for smooth daylight harvesting. The wide 1.8 V to 5.5 V supply range accepts common LED-driver auxiliary rails without extra regulators, and the 20 MHz core runs DMX512-style or DALI-lite command decoders in firmware without missing inter-byte gaps. nanoWatt XLP reduces standby when the luminaire is off, helping meet energy-saving regulations.

📺

HMI / Display Driver Modules

The PIC16F1527T-I/PT handles simple HMI nodes driving character LCDs or small graphic OLEDs over SPI or I2C, with its 20 MHz core sustaining 100 kHz+ refresh rates while still servicing keypad scans and rotary encoders via change-notification interrupts. The 28 KB Flash stores lookup tables for Unicode fonts and menu state machines, while 1.5 KB SRAM buffers scan-line data for ST7565-style displays without external memory. The 64-TQFP package's 54 I/O pins expose enough general-purpose lines for parallel 8-bit LCD interfaces, status LEDs and tactile-switch matrices. Its 1.8 V to 5.5 V supply lets the same PCB target 3.3 V or 5 V LCD modules by strap resistor.

🔬

Low-Cost Data Acquisition Front-End

The PIC16F1527T-I/PT is a competent low-cost data-acquisition front-end for bench instruments and process loggers thanks to its 12-bit ADC with up to 30 channels, integrated FVR, and computed ADC channels that automate averaging and threshold comparisons in hardware. The two EUSARTs isolate the host Modbus link from the local debug console, while MSSP ports connect SPI ADC expanders or I2C EEPROM for log retention. The 256 B EEPROM and 1.5 KB SRAM buffer burst samples before forwarding, and the 64-TQFP package provides enough GPIO for digital-event timestamping. Industrial-grade -40 C to +85 C operation tolerates cabinet environments, and MPLAB X IDE plus XC8 ease firmware development.

Notas de projeto

Decouple VDD with a 100 nF X7R ceramic placed within 3 mm of the VDD/VSS pins and a bulk 4.7 uF to 10 uF tantalum or ceramic on the same rail. The PIC16F1527T-I/PT has multiple VDD/VSS pairs on the 64-TQFP package; each pair must have its own 100 nF bypass capacitor. A single shared decoupling network is insufficient and can cause brown-out resets under heavy I/O switching. Add a ferrite bead if the supply is shared with a switching regulator or RF stage.

Route the ICSP/PGx/PDx signals (RB6/RB7 on this device) directly to a 5-pin header or edge finger with no series resistors in normal use. Keep MCLR traces short and add the standard 10 kohm pull-up to VDD; place the ICSP connector at the board edge so the production programmer can reach it without fixturing. The 64-TQFP 0.5 mm pitch requires 0.20 mm trace/space design rules at minimum and a 4-layer stack-up is recommended to provide a continuous ground plane under the part for thermal and EMI performance.

Do not enable the watchdog timer in production code without budgeting the wake-up service time, and remember that PIC16F1527T-I/PT configuration bits must include WDTE disabled or appropriately windowed. Watch out for the configuration word WRT fuse - if the upper half of Flash is used for bootloader storage, code-protect (CP) and write-protect (WRT) bits must be configured correctly or ICSP writes will fail. Always read the latest Microchip programming specification before locking the device. Do not exceed 5.5 V on any pin; the absolute maximum is specified in the datasheet's electrical characteristics table.

Estimated: At 20 MHz core clock and typical 8 mA active current (3.3 V), the part dissipates approximately 26 mW. The 64-TQFP theta_JA is roughly 60 C/W on a 4-layer JEDEC test board, yielding a junction temperature rise of only ~1.6 C above ambient at room temperature. Thermal management is therefore not a constraint for typical applications; however, in sealed enclosures above 60 C ambient, ensure the part does not exceed its 85 C industrial maximum. No external heatsink is required.
