PIC16LF15344T-I/GZ Visão geral

The Microchip Technology PIC16LF15344T-I/GZ is an 8-bit RISC microcontroller in the PIC16LF153xx family featuring 32MHz CPU speed, 7KB (4K x 14) flash program memory and 512 bytes of data RAM in a 20-pin UQFN (4x4) package. It operates from a 1.8V to 3.6V supply and integrates essential peripherals including 4 PWMs, a comparator, a DAC, an ADC, a CWG (Complementary Waveform Generator), 2 EUSARTs and SPI/I2C, while remaining part of the eXtreme Low Power (XLP) family for battery-aware designs.

A microcontroller (MCU) is a single-chip computer that integrates a CPU core, non-volatile program memory (Flash), volatile working memory (RAM), and a configurable set of peripherals on one die. PIC16F-series microcontrollers are 8-bit RISC devices with a Harvard architecture: a separate program and data bus, a small instruction set optimized for compiled C code, and on-chip peripherals that are accessed through Special Function Registers. The 'LF' prefix denotes the low-voltage, low-power variant (1.8V-3.6V) while the 'F' variants typically operate at 2.3V-5.5V.

Key features include 18 configurable I/O pins, 10-bit ADC resolution, multiple Core Independent Peripherals (CIPs) that operate without CPU intervention, and ultra-low-power sleep currents that make the part suitable for battery-powered or energy-harvesting applications. The 32MHz internal oscillator eliminates the need for an external crystal in many designs, while the UQFN-20 (4x4 mm) package is suitable for space-constrained PCB layouts.

The device uses a 14-bit instruction word with a Harvard memory bus, achieving deterministic interrupt latency that suits real-time control loops. The integrated CIPs - including CWG, NCO, CCP and PWM - let the hardware continue critical waveform generation even when the CPU is in sleep, which is essential for low-power motor, lighting and sensor-driven applications.

Typical applications include IoT sensor nodes, low-power wireless-connected end nodes, consumer electronics with touch or LED feedback, industrial control subsystems, battery management peripherals, and small home appliances. The combination of low sleep current, CIPs and small QFN package makes the part especially useful in space-constrained battery-powered products.

When designing with the PIC16LF15344T-I/GZ, ensure that the supply rail is decoupled with both bulk and high-frequency ceramic capacitors near the VDD pins. The Debugger/Programming pins (ICSPDAT/ICSPCLK) must be accessible for in-circuit serial programming (ICSP), and unused I/O pins should be configured as outputs low to minimize quiescent draw.

This page synthesizes distributor pricing, drop-in same-package alternatives, and practical design notes beyond the manufacturer datasheet to give engineers a complete decision-grade view of the PIC16LF15344T-I/GZ.

Notas de projeto

The PIC16LF15344T-I/GZ requires VDD between 1.8 V and 3.6 V. Place a 100 nF decoupling capacitor as close as possible to the VDD pin, plus a 10 uF bulk capacitor near the supply rail. If the design uses sleep modes with rapid wake-up, ensure VDD rise time meets the datasheet power-on reset (POR) specification of VDD < 50 mV/ms slew for clean cold-start behavior. The 'LF' variant supports lower-voltage operation than the 'F' variant, which matters for Li-Ion / coin-cell battery rails.

The 20-UQFN (4x4 mm) package has an exposed thermal pad that must be soldered to the PCB VSS plane for proper thermal and electrical performance. Use at least 4 thermal vias under the pad to a bottom-layer VSS pour to dissipate heat and provide a low-inductance ground return. Keep the ICSPDAT (pin 1) and ICSPCLK (pin 5) traces accessible for in-circuit serial programming and debugging with PICkit 4 or MPLAB Snap.

Do not leave unused GPIO pins floating - configure them as outputs low in firmware to minimize quiescent current. The RA3 pin serves as both GPIO and the VPP high-voltage programming pin, so the surrounding circuit must tolerate ~9 V during ICSP - avoid low-voltage-only components directly on RA3. Finally, when migrating between 'LF' and 'F' variants, verify that the maximum CPU frequency versus VDD curve (FDDS graph) supports 32 MHz at the lower VDD of the 'LF' part.

Route I2C lines (RC3/SCL, RC4/SDA) with 4.7 kohm pull-ups and keep them short to avoid rise-time violations above the 400 kHz fast-mode specification. For SPI traces running >10 MHz, use a ground reference and matched trace lengths to prevent reflections. The 32 MHz internal oscillator eliminates most EMI concerns, but high-current switching outputs (driving MOSFET gates) should be routed away from sensitive analog ADC inputs to prevent digital noise coupling into measurements.
