PIC16LF627-04I/SO Visão geral

The Microchip Technology PIC16LF627-04I/SO is an 8-bit Flash-based CMOS microcontroller from the PIC16F62X family, featuring a 4 MHz instruction clock, 1.75 KB (1K x 14) of program memory, 224 bytes of RAM, and 16 I/O pins in an 18-pin SOIC package. The 'LF' prefix indicates the low-voltage variant operating from 2.0 V to 5.5 V, while the 'I' suffix denotes an industrial temperature range of -40 C to +85 C and the '04' clock designator specifies a 4 MHz maximum oscillator frequency. This part delivers PIC RISC performance with 200 ns instruction execution time, only 35 single-word instructions to learn, and Harvard bus architecture with separate code and data paths.

A microcontroller (MCU) is a single-chip computer that integrates a CPU, memory (Flash, RAM, EEPROM), and programmable peripherals. The PIC16F62X family is classified as an 8-bit mid-range MCU, sitting within the broader hierarchy: microcontroller -> embedded processor -> semiconductor IC. MCUs are the foundation of embedded systems, executing firmware to read sensors, drive actuators, and communicate with peripherals in everything from consumer appliances to industrial controllers.

Key features of the PIC16LF627-04I/SO include 16 I/O pins with individually programmable direction, a high-current sink/source capability of 25 mA per pin for direct LED drive without external transistors, two on-chip analog comparators, and a programmable on-chip voltage reference (VREF) module. The device integrates a Power-on Reset (POR), Power-up Timer (PWRT), Oscillator Start-up Timer (OST), Brown-out Detect (BOD), and a Watchdog Timer (WDT) with its own on-chip RC oscillator for reliable operation. Programmable weak pull-ups on PORTB reduce external component count.

Architecturally, the PIC16LF627 uses a Harvard architecture with separate program (Flash) and data (RAM) buses, plus a 14-bit instruction word. The enhanced core supports interrupt handling with a hardware context save, and the integrated USART supports RS-232/RS-485 communication. The internal 4 MHz RC oscillator allows operation without external crystal components, lowering BOM cost in cost-sensitive designs.

Typical applications include low-power remote controls, consumer white goods, automotive interior modules, battery-powered instrumentation, industrial sensor interfaces, and small appliance controllers. Its combination of Flash memory, integrated peripherals, and wide operating voltage makes it ideal for legacy 5 V designs transitioning from older OTP parts. When designing with this MCU, ensure that the MCLR pin is correctly biased (high for normal operation) and that decoupling capacitors are placed close to VDD/VSS. Programming is supported through Microchip's MPLAB X IDE and ICD debuggers, with a broad third-party toolchain ecosystem.

Guia de seleção

Choose the PIC16LF627-04I/SO when you need a low-voltage (2.0-5.5 V) industrial-temperature 8-bit MCU with 1.75 KB Flash and minimal BOM cost. The internal 4 MHz RC oscillator eliminates external crystals, and the 25 mA I/O pins drive LEDs directly. For new designs, consider the PIC16LF627A-I/SO (20 MHz, CCP module) or PIC16LF628A-I/SO (20 MHz + 3.5 KB Flash + CCP) - both are pin-compatible drop-in upgrades with modern peripherals. The standard PIC16F627-04I/SO is the right choice if you need 3.0 V minimum VDD and industrial temp without the LF low-voltage spec. For non-SOIC packaging, the PIC16LF627-04I/P (PDIP-18) provides through-hole compatibility but is NOT pin-compatible with the SOIC version - PCB layout must be redesigned. All alternatives above share the SOIC-18 footprint and can be PCB-swapped without layout changes.

Notas de projeto

Place a 100 nF decoupling capacitor as close as possible to VDD (pin 14) and a bulk 10 uF tantalum or ceramic on the supply rail. The PIC16LF627-04I/SO has an internal POR that requires a clean VDD rise; if the supply is slow (>1 ms) configure PWRT to extend the reset hold time. Brown-out Detect (BOD) should be enabled for battery-powered applications - the BOD threshold register sets the trigger level relative to VDD.

When using the 18-pin SOIC, route VDD and VSS traces as wide as practical (>=0.5 mm) and place the decoupling cap within 3 mm of the VDD pin. The MCLR/VPP pin (pin 4) requires a 10 kohm pull-up to VDD for normal operation; during ICSP programming, this pin is driven to ~13 V by the programmer. Avoid routing high-frequency signals near OSC1/OSC2 if using an external crystal.

A common mistake is forgetting that the PIC16LF627-04I/SO defaults to using the GP3/MCLR pin as a reset input, not a general-purpose I/O. To use RA5 as an I/O, the MCLRE configuration bit must be cleared in the CONFIG register at programming time. Also note that the 'LF' variant's 2.0 V minimum VDD is incompatible with standard 5 V-only peripherals - verify that downstream devices support 3.3 V operation or use level shifters.

If using the internal 4 MHz RC oscillator (INTRC), leave the OSC1/OSC2 pins (pins 15, 16) configurable as general-purpose I/O by clearing the FOSC configuration bits. For noise-sensitive analog measurements, switch to the internal RC oscillator during ADC reads (to avoid digital switching noise on the supply rail) and return to the crystal after the conversion completes.
