Ra-01SC Visão geral
A LoRa module is a wireless transceiver module that uses Chirp Spread Spectrum (CSS) modulation from Semtech's LoRa remote modem family. LoRa belongs to the spread-spectrum modulation family within the broader category of low-power wide-area network (LPWAN) technologies. LoRa modules sit in the physical layer stack of IoT connectivity, between a microcontroller's SPI bus and the over-the-air RF channel, enabling kilometer-range communication at very low current draw.
Key features include support for LoRa, FSK, GFSK, MSK, GMSK and OOK modulation, an SPI host interface for configuration and data transfer, 4.2 mA typical receive current, up to 140 mA peak transmit current at +22 dBm, and an operating temperature range of -40 °C to +85 °C. The module integrates the LLCC68 transceiver, RF front-end matching network, TCXO reference and IPEX antenna footprint, removing the need for external RF tuning.
The LLCC68 inside the Ra-01SC uses Semtech's second-generation LoRa modem IP with bandwidth options of 125 kHz, 250 kHz and 500 kHz and spreading factors from SF5 to SF11. Compared with the older SX1276 family (Ra-01, Ra-01S), the LLCC68 brings lower receive current, faster SPI access and an improved CAD (Channel Activity Detection) engine for Listen-Before-Talk implementations under ETSI EN 300 220 duty-cycle rules.
Typical applications include battery-powered IoT sensors, smart agriculture soil and irrigation nodes, asset tracking, building automation, wireless meter reading and any long-range, low-throughput star or mesh network where a sub-GHz ISM link is required. Pair the Ra-01SC with an ESP32, STM32 or Arduino host via the 16-pin SMD pads and use the siliconshelf Arduino-LoRa-Ra01Sx library for quick prototyping.
When laying out the host PCB, keep the IPEX antenna area clear of copper pours and route the SPI bus with short, matched traces to avoid timing violations on the LLCC68's busy indicator. For best range, use a properly tuned 50 ohm antenna matched to the 410-525 MHz band of your region.

Aplicações típicas
Ra-01SC é adequado para 7 aplicaçãos: Battery-Powered IoT Sensor Nodes, Smart Agriculture and Irrigation, Wireless Meter Reading (AMR/AMI), Asset Tracking and Logistics, Building Automation and HVAC Control, Industrial Wireless Sensor Networks, Outdoor Environmental Monitoring.
Battery-Powered IoT Sensor Nodes
The Ra-01SC is well suited for battery-powered IoT sensor nodes thanks to its 4.2 mA typical receive current and 140 mA peak transmit current at +22 dBm. With duty-cycled transmissions of a few kilobytes per hour, average current draw can be reduced to the single-digit milliamp range, allowing years of operation from a 2x AA battery pack. The LLCC68's Channel Activity Detection (CAD) mode enables Listen-Before-Talk under ETSI EN 300 220 duty-cycle rules, which is essential for European 433 MHz and Chinese 470-510 MHz deployments. Pair the Ra-01SC with an ESP32 or STM32 host that sleeps between sensor readings to maximise battery life.
Recomendado
Smart Agriculture and Irrigation
In smart agriculture deployments the Ra-01SC's 2.8 km line-of-sight range and -129 dBm sensitivity enable soil-moisture and weather sensor networks across large fields without cellular or Wi-Fi coverage. LoRa's chirp-spread-spectrum modulation penetrates foliage and is highly immune to the electromagnetic interference generated by greenhouse motors and irrigation pumps. Place the IPEX antenna external to the IP67 enclosure to avoid attenuation from the plastic housing, and use SF9-SF11 to maximise range across dense crop rows. AI-Thinker's volume pricing makes per-node cost acceptable for hundreds of sensors per farm.
Recomendado
Wireless Meter Reading (AMR/AMI)
Utility companies deploy Ra-01SC-based concentrators for automatic meter reading of water, gas and electricity meters. The 410-525 MHz sub-GHz band provides good building penetration for basement meter locations, and the module's support for SF5-SF11 spreading factors lets the concentrator trade data rate for range as needed for dense urban versus rural deployments. The SPI host interface allows a single MCU to drive the radio and the meter bus (e.g., M-Bus or Modbus) over separate UARTs, reducing total BOM cost versus a discrete RF front-end design.
Recomendado
Asset Tracking and Logistics
For asset tracking across warehouses, ports and transit hubs, the Ra-01SC's IPEX antenna and SMD-16 footprint enable compact tracker form factors inside pallets, containers and tool cases. With 22 dBm transmit power and SF11 sensitivity, single-hop range of 2.8 km is achievable outdoors, which is sufficient for campus-scale and port-scale tracking without requiring cellular connectivity. Combine the Ra-01SC with a GNSS module and an accelerometer for motion-triggered location reporting that maximises battery life by sleeping the radio when the asset is stationary.

Building Automation and HVAC Control
In commercial buildings the Ra-01SC provides a wireless backbone for HVAC controllers, lighting ballasts and occupancy sensors that must communicate across concrete floors and steel-reinforced ceilings. Sub-GHz LoRa modulation handles multi-floor attenuation far better than 2.4 GHz Zigbee or Wi-Fi. Use SF7-SF9 to balance air-time against latency for HVAC control loops that need sub-second response, and integrate with a BACnet or Modbus gateway at the building management system level. The -40 °C to +85 °C operating temperature range covers unheated plant rooms and outdoor rooftop equipment enclosures.

Industrial Wireless Sensor Networks
For factory automation and condition monitoring, the Ra-01SC's SPI bus and compact 17 x 16 mm SMD-16 footprint enable integration into sensor modules mounted directly on motors, pumps and conveyor belts. Its -129 dBm sensitivity and 22 dBm transmit power let a single gateway cover an entire factory floor with hundreds of sensors, and its 4.2 mA receive current keeps continuous-monitoring vibration sensors viable on 24 V industrial power rails. The IPEX antenna connector supports external high-gain antennas that are required in metal-rich industrial environments.
Recomendado
Outdoor Environmental Monitoring
Outdoor environmental monitoring stations for air quality, noise and weather benefit from the Ra-01SC's wide operating temperature of -40 °C to +85 °C and its ability to operate across the 410-525 MHz band in different regions. Solar-powered weather stations with a single Ra-01SC and an SF11 link can achieve 10+ km links back to a base station in open terrain. The module's SMD-16 form factor allows integration inside a small IP65 enclosure mounted on a pole, with the IPEX antenna external to maximise sky visibility and link margin.

Notas de projeto
Estimated: budget the host 3.3 V LDO or DC-DC for at least 200 mA peak headroom. The Ra-01SC draws a peak of 140 mA during a +22 dBm transmit burst (per Ai-Thinker datasheet on LCSC). Add a 10 µF ceramic bulk cap directly at the module's VCC pin to suppress the transmit-induced rail droop; a smaller 100 nF decoupler should sit within 2 mm of the pin. For battery-powered designs, place the LDO enable under MCU control so the radio can be fully powered down between transmissions.
Per the Ai-Thinker Ra-01SC specification, this module is an electrostatic-sensitive device requiring proper ESD handling throughout assembly and transport. Place a 4-layer host PCB with a continuous ground plane under the module's SMD-16 footprint to control impedance for the SPI bus and to provide thermal mass. Keep the IPEX antenna area free of ground copper and route the SPI traces as short, length-matched pairs (MISO/MOSI/SCK/NSS) to avoid timing violations on the LLCC68's busy indicator handshake.
Do not assume Ra-01SC command-set compatibility with SX1276-based modules like Ra-01S or Ra-02 - the LLCC68 register map is different and there is no drop-in firmware. Use the siliconshelf Arduino-LoRa-Ra01Sx library which explicitly supports both LLCC68 and SX1276 variants on the same wiring but dispatches to different register writes. When migrating from Ra-02 to Ra-01SC, the busy pin replaces DIO0 as the primary interrupt source - existing interrupt-driven code must be updated.
Per the siliconshelf library README: Ra-01SC bandwidth is restricted to 125 kHz, 250 kHz or 500 kHz, and the spreading factor range depends on bandwidth (SF5-SF9 for 125 kHz, SF5-SF10 for 250 kHz, SF5-SF11 for 500 kHz). Choose BW=500 kHz with SF11 for maximum sensitivity in long-range deployments, or BW=125 kHz with SF7 for minimum air-time in dense sensor networks. Rejecting libraries that try to use SF12 (an SX1276-only feature) prevents firmware lock-ups on Ra-01SC.
