PIC16F1707-I/P Обзор
An 8-bit microcontroller is a single-chip computer built around an 8-bit data bus CPU, integrating program memory (Flash/ROM), data memory (RAM), non-volatile EEPROM, and a rich set of on-chip peripherals (timers, ADC, communication ports, comparators). PIC microcontrollers from Microchip use a Harvard RISC architecture and are classified under the broader category of microcontrollers -> microprocessors -> semiconductor ICs. The PIC16F1707 belongs to the extreme low-power (XLP) family optimized for battery-powered and energy-harvesting applications, where active current in the microamp range and sleep currents in the nanoamp range extend operating life.
Key features of the PIC16F1707-I/P include 256 bytes of RAM, 256 bytes of EEPROM, two op-amps, one 10-bit ADC with up to 12 channels, one 5-bit DAC, one 8-bit DAC, four 8-bit timers, one 16-bit timer, Enhanced Universal Synchronous Asynchronous Receiver Transmitter (EUSART), two SPI/I2C capable Master Synchronous Serial Port (MSSP) modules, and four Configurable Logic Cell (CLC) blocks. The device operates from 2.3V to 5.5V across -40C to +85C industrial temperature range, with nanoWatt XLP technology providing <50 nA typical sleep current.
The PIC16F1707 uses an enhanced mid-range 8-bit RISC core with 49 instructions and 16-level hardware stack, supporting interrupt latency of just 5 instruction cycles. Its CIP architecture allows peripherals such as the COG and CLC to operate autonomously without CPU intervention, dramatically reducing firmware complexity for power-conversion, motor-drive, and signal-conditioning applications.
Typical applications include LED lighting controllers, DC-DC converters, battery chargers, small appliance controls, sensor signal conditioning, low-cost fan/thermostat controllers, and IoT edge nodes. The on-chip op-amps and DAC make it particularly attractive for closed-loop analog control designs that previously required dedicated analog ICs.
When designing with this device, plan for a 20-pin PDIP footprint and ensure MPLAB X IDE with XC8 compiler is used for firmware development. The internal 32MHz oscillator eliminates the need for an external crystal in most applications, saving two PCB pins and reducing BOM cost.

Заметки по проектированию
Decouple VDD (pins 10 and 16) with a 100 nF ceramic capacitor placed within 5 mm of each VDD pin, plus a bulk 10 uF tantalum or aluminum-polymer capacitor near the supply input. According to Microchip PIC16F170X layout guidelines, the dual VDD/VSS pins provide redundant power and ground paths that significantly reduce digital switching noise on the analog VDD rail, but only if both pins are properly decoupled. Failure to bypass both VDD pins can inject noise into the ADC readings by 5-10 LSB.
Route analog input traces (RA0-RA5, RB4-RB5) as short as possible and keep them away from high-speed digital lines such as SCK and TX. Use a ground guard ring around analog pins and connect analog ground to digital ground at a single point near the VSS pin. The on-chip op-amps have low offset voltage but can be degraded by board-level leakage currents; for high-impedance sensor inputs (>100 kohm) use a driven guard ring around the input trace and do not place digital signals within 5 mm of the analog inputs.
Do not enable the on-chip op-amps until after the VDD rail has stabilized - leaving them enabled at power-up can cause inrush currents that exceed the 50 mA absolute maximum on analog pins. Also, configure the Peripheral Pin Select (PPS) unlock sequence (write 0x55, 0xAA to PPSLOCK) before changing pin mappings, or the changes will silently fail. Finally, ensure the CLC input source selection does not conflict with the ADC analog channel assignment, as both can claim the same pin simultaneously in some configurations.
Estimated: the PIC16F1707-I/P in 20-pin PDIP has a theta_JA of approximately 70 C/W (typical for PDIP packages without dedicated thermal pad). At full CPU speed (32 MHz) with all peripherals active, power dissipation is around 8 mA * 3.3V = 26 mW, resulting in a junction temperature rise of only 1.8 C above ambient. Even at maximum operating voltage (5.5V) and worst-case active current (10 mA), the rise is approximately 3.9 C. No heatsink is required for any normal operating condition, but derate clock speed or duty-cycle if the design runs above +85 C ambient in a sealed enclosure.
