PIC18F47Q83-E/PT Обзор

The Microchip Technology PIC18F47Q83-E/PT is an 8-bit PIC18 microcontroller from the PIC18-Q83 family, integrating 128KB of Flash, 13KB of SRAM, and 1KB of EEPROM in a 44-pin TQFP (10x10 mm) package. It runs at 64 MHz across an 8-bit data path with a CAN bus controller and an extensive array of Core Independent Peripherals (CIPs).

A microcontroller (MCU) is a single-chip computer that integrates a CPU, non-volatile program memory, working RAM, and configurable I/O peripherals. The PIC18 family sits at the upper end of Microchip's 8-bit portfolio, combining a RISC-like 16-bit instruction word with rich interrupt handling and modular peripherals. Within the broader power-management and embedded-control taxonomy, an 8-bit MCU is positioned as a low-cost, deterministic controller for node-level intelligence, gateway bridging, and human-machine interfaces that do not require the throughput of 32-bit Cortex-M parts.

Key features include 128KB of self-programmable Flash, 13KB of SRAM, 1KB of EEPROM, a 12-bit ADC3 with computation, a 5-bit DAC, a Device Service Module (DSM), PWM peripherals, and serial interfaces including I2C, SPI, and UART alongside the CAN bus. The CIPs allow hardware-level state machines for timer, PWM, and signal conditioning without CPU intervention, which reduces firmware complexity and improves deterministic response. Operating voltage spans 1.8V to 5.5V across the -40C to +125C extended industrial temperature range.

The Q83 architecture pairs an 8-bit data path with a 16-bit instruction set and hardware multiplier, suitable for sensor fusion, motor control loops, and CAN node bridging in industrial and automotive subsystems. The 44-pin TQFP gives designers 36+ I/O lines, multiple analog channels, and high-current sink/source capability for direct LED and relay drive.

Typical applications include CAN node endpoints, sensor signal conditioning, lighting controllers, and appliance HMI boards. For designs requiring higher pin count or USB, the Q83 family extends to 48-pin QFN variants. When designing with this device, use the MPLAB X IDE and XC8 compiler; reserve adequate decoupling on AVDD/VDD pairs and ensure the CAN transceiver shares a common ground return with the MCU for EMI compliance.

This page synthesizes distributor pricing, parametric drop-in alternatives, and practical design notes not found in the manufacturer datasheet. Engineers evaluating PIC18-Q83 vs K42 or Q43 families should consult the comparison_table below to weigh CIP availability against pin count.

PIC18F47Q83 vs PIC18F47Q43 - which is better for CAN applications?
The PIC18F47Q83 includes a hardware CAN 2.0B controller with DMA-style message buffering, while the PIC18F47Q43 lacks CAN and is aimed at USB and general-purpose applications. For CAN node designs, the PIC18F47Q83 is the correct choice because it integrates the CAN peripheral natively and eliminates the need for an external controller. Both share 128KB Flash, 13KB RAM, and a 44-pin TQFP footprint in this MPN's case.
PIC18F47Q83 vs PIC18F47K42 - which should I choose?
The PIC18F47Q83 is preferred when designs require CAN bus or advanced Core Independent Peripherals (CIPs) such as DSM, CWG, and 12-bit ADC3 with computation. The PIC18F47K42 targets simpler control loops with a 12-bit ADC, multi-rail PWM, and no CAN. Both share 44-pin TQFP packages but different pinouts, so the choice is not a drop-in; pick Q83 for CAN/CIP-rich designs and K42 for low-cost motor or lighting control.
When should I choose PIC18F47Q83-E/PT over PIC18F47Q83-I/PT?
Choose the PIC18F47Q83-E/PT (extended -40C to +125C) for industrial or outdoor applications with wide temperature swings, and the -I/PT (industrial -40C to +85C) for indoor consumer or commercial designs. The E grade is qualified to AEC-Q100 test standards for harsh environments, while the I grade offers cost savings for less demanding thermal envelopes. Both are pin-compatible in the 44-pin TQFP.
What is the best drop-in replacement for PIC18F47Q83-E/PT?
The closest drop-in alternative is the PIC18F47Q43-E/PT (same package, same flash/RAM, but without the CAN peripheral). For designs requiring CAN, the PIC18F47Q83-I/PT is the same die in the industrial temperature grade. Cross-brand drop-in equivalents in 44-pin TQFP are limited because most competing MCUs differ in pinout; consider PIC18F46Q84-E/P for a 40-pin PDIP alternative when CAN is needed.
Can PIC18F47K42-E/PT replace PIC18F47Q83-E/PT?
No, the PIC18F47K42-E/PT is not a drop-in replacement for the PIC18F47Q83-E/PT because the pinouts differ and the K42 lacks the CAN peripheral present on the Q83. While both share the 44-pin TQFP package, swapping requires PCB layout changes and firmware rework. Use K42 only when CAN is not needed and pin remapping is acceptable; otherwise redesign with the Q84 or upgrade to Q83 family.
What tools support PIC18F47Q83-E/PT firmware development?
Firmware for the PIC18F47Q83-E/PT is developed using Microchip's MPLAB X IDE (free download), the XC8 C compiler (free or PRO license), and the PICkit 4 or MPLAB SNAP in-circuit programmer/debugger. The MPLAB Code Configurator (MCC) plug-in generates CIP initialization code and peripheral setup, dramatically reducing development time. Microchip also provides the PIC18F-Q83 functional safety and Class B diagnostic libraries for safety-critical applications.
What are the key specifications of PIC18F47Q83-E/PT that engineers should know?
The PIC18F47Q83-E/PT integrates 128KB Flash, 13KB SRAM, 1KB EEPROM, and runs an 8-bit PIC18 core at up to 64 MHz (16 MIPS) over a 1.8V to 5.5V supply. It includes a CAN 2.0B controller, 12-bit ADC3 with computation, 5-bit DAC, multi-channel PWM, and Core Independent Peripherals (DSM, CWG, PWM, etc.) for hardware state machines. Housed in a 44-pin TQFP (10x10 mm) operating from -40C to +125C, it is RoHS compliant and supported by MPLAB X with XC8.

Справочные инженерные данные для PIC18F47Q83-E/PT — сравнение, рекомендации по проектированию и информация о соответствии.

Руководство по выбору

Choose PIC18F47Q83-E/PT when the design requires an 8-bit MCU with integrated CAN bus, 128KB Flash, 13KB RAM, and Core Independent Peripherals (CIPs) for hardware state machines in industrial or automotive-grade environments. The -E temperature grade (-40C to +125C) makes it the right choice for harsh thermal envelopes. Pick PIC18F47Q43-E/PT if CAN is not needed and you want identical Flash/RAM with potentially lower cost; pick PIC18F47K42-E/PT when a simpler 12-bit ADC suffices and you do not need CIP computation. Choose PIC18F47Q83-I/PT for indoor commercial applications where the -40C to +85C industrial range is adequate. All four parts share the 44-pin TQFP (PT) footprint in this configuration, but verify pin compatibility in the datasheet before swapping, since K42 pinouts differ from Q83.

Заметки по проектированию

Decouple each VDD/AVDD pin pair with a 100nF ceramic capacitor placed within 3 mm of the package pin, plus a bulk 4.7uF to 10uF tantalum or ceramic capacitor at the regulator output. The Q83 family datasheet recommends separate AVDD/AVSS routing when the ADC is active; tie AVSS to VSS at a single point (star ground) to avoid digital return currents corrupting ADC readings. Estimate: at 64 MHz full activity, the MCU draws up to 15 mA, so a low-noise LDO such as MCP1700 or MIC5219 is appropriate.

Place the 44-pin TQFP with thermal relief pads on all ground pins to balance manufacturability and thermal dissipation. The exposed thermal pad on the bottom is not present on the 44-pin TQFP package, but a solid copper pour on the top layer connected to VDD/VSS reduces thermal resistance. Keep high-current switching traces (e.g., PWM-driven LED or motor lines) at least 5 mm away from the AVDD/AVSS analog island to prevent conducted EMI coupling.

Route the CANH and CANL differential pair as a matched 100-ohm impedance pair with continuous ground reference, using maximum 3 mm spacing between the two lines. Place the MCP2562 CAN transceiver within 25 mm of the MCU CAN pins to keep stub lengths short. For UART and SPI signals, route over a continuous ground plane and avoid crossing noisy power traces; keep trace lengths under 50 mm for SPI at 10 MHz to avoid signal-integrity issues.

Do not leave unused I/O pins floating - configure them as outputs or enable the internal weak pull-ups to avoid spurious interrupts and current leakage. Ensure the MCLR line is properly pulled high through a 10k resistor for normal operation, or driven low only during programming. When using the internal 64 MHz oscillator, verify the OSCTUNE register settings match the application's EMI requirements; the PLL can inject harmonics into adjacent analog traces if not properly bypassed.

The CAN bus requires twisted-pair routing with a 120-ohm termination resistor at each end of the bus segment; missing terminations cause reflections and bus errors. For long CAN cable runs (>5 m), add a common-mode choke and TVS protection (e.g., PESD1CAN) near the bus connector. On SPI buses running above 10 MHz, add 22-33 ohm series resistors at the driver outputs to dampen ringing without violating signal-timing margins.
