PIC16F57T-I/SO جائزہ

The Microchip Technology PIC16F57T-I/SO is a powerful yet easy-to-program 8-bit CMOS FLASH-based microcontroller from the PICmicro architecture, packaged in a 28-pin SOIC (7.50 mm width) with 200 ns instruction execution, 20 MHz clock speed, 3 KB (2K x 12) program FLASH memory, and 20 I/O pins. Operating from a 2.0V to 5.5V supply, the device is engineered for low-power embedded control in automotive, industrial, and consumer applications.

A microcontroller (MCU) is a single-chip computer containing a CPU, memory (Flash/ROM for program storage, RAM for data), and programmable I/O peripherals on one IC. The PIC16F57 belongs to Microchip's mid-range 8-bit PIC16 family and uses a RISC-based Harvard architecture with 33 single-word instructions and 12-bit-wide opcodes delivering roughly 2:1 code compression versus other 8-bit MCUs in its class. Within the broader component taxonomy, PIC16F57 sits under microcontroller -> 8-bit MCU -> embedded controller -> semiconductor IC -> Integrated Circuit. Its 12-bit instruction width is a hallmark of the PIC16F5X baseline family, distinguishing it from PIC16F1xxx enhanced 14-bit devices and PIC18 16-bit-instruction parts.

Key features include 72 bytes of RAM, three hardware timers, a watchdog timer, 20 digital I/O lines, in-circuit serial programming (ICSP), and an integrated power-on reset. The PIC16F57T-I/SO is supplied in tape-and-reel (T = T&R suffix) for high-volume manufacturing, the -I grade parts operate across -40 C to +85 C industrial temperatures, and the SO package (SO = 28-SOIC) offers 0.295 inch (7.50 mm) body width for standard through-hole-compatible surface-mount assembly.

In-circuit debug and code protection are supported per Microchip device specifications. Compared with PIC16F1xxx enhanced mid-range parts, the PIC16F57 lacks interrupts, ADC, and PWM peripherals, which makes it ideal for deterministic polled-loop control. The 20 MHz oscillator drives a 5 MIPS core from a 4T clock, balancing responsiveness with ultra-low sleep currents for always-on remote-sensor nodes.

Typical applications include automotive sensor conditioning, industrial control logic, appliance user-interface panels, low-cost remote controls, security-system keypads, and LED display drivers. The wide supply range (2.0-5.5V) allows direct connection to single-cell Li-ion or 4xAA battery stacks.

Designers should connect VDD to a 100 nF decoupling capacitor placed within 5 mm of the pin and route MCLR through a 10 kohm pull-up. For production programming, reserve the ICSP pins (RB6/RB7) and ensure the trace geometry avoids capacitive loading on the oscillator pins.

This page synthesizes distributor pricing, drop-in same-package alternatives, and practical design notes not found in the manufacturer datasheet, giving engineers a single source for evaluating the PIC16F57T-I/SO in new designs and as a pin-compatible upgrade or replacement.

PIC16F57T-I/SO کے لیے موزوں ہے 6 ایپلیکیشنs: Automotive Sensor Conditioning, Industrial Control Logic Replacement, Appliance User-Interface Panels, Low-Cost Remote Control Transmitters, Security System Keypads and Sensors, LED Display and Signage Drivers.

🚗

Automotive Sensor Conditioning

The PIC16F57T-I/SO fits automotive sensor-conditioning nodes that require a small, deterministic MCU between a 5 V regulated rail and a sensor front-end. With 3 KB FLASH, 72 bytes RAM, 20 MHz core, and 20 digital I/O lines, it can run polled multiplex routines for up to 16 push-button or Hall-effect inputs without an OS or interrupt scheduler. Its 2.0-5.5 V VDD accepts 12 V battery-derived rails after pre-regulation. The polled architecture yields bounded worst-case latency of one instruction cycle (200 ns) per scan step, critical for ABS or seat-position sensor feedback where jitter must stay under 1 ms. Compared with interrupt-driven PIC16F1xxx parts, the F57's simpler execution model reduces firmware certification cost for ISO 26262 ASIL-A nodes and lets one engineer own both hardware and software.

🏭

Industrial Control Logic Replacement

Industrial PLC drop-in retrofits and discrete-logic replacement modules benefit from PIC16F57T-I/SO because the 28-SOIC footprint lets it slide directly onto legacy 74HC-series PCBs after a 5 V-only redesign. The 33-instruction RISC core and 5 MIPS throughput handle ladder-logic emulation at scan times under 5 ms for typical 32-rung programs. Its three 8-bit timers deliver independent debounce, blink, and watchdog functions in one chip, reducing BOM count from four discrete logic ICs to one. The wide 2.0-5.5 V supply tolerance also lets it ride through 24 V industrial bus transients after a single LDO stage, ideal for machine-tool pendant controllers and conveyor-tally counters.

🔧

Appliance User-Interface Panels

Front-panel button scanning, LED multiplexing, and 7-segment display refresh are bread-and-butter tasks for the PIC16F57T-I/SO. With 20 I/O pins, three 8-bit timers, and 72 bytes RAM it can scan a 4x4 matrix keypad plus drive an 8-digit LED display without an external driver IC. The 200 ns instruction cycle keeps display refresh above 100 Hz, eliminating visible flicker, while the 3 KB FLASH stores icon tables and buzzer-pattern waveforms. Operating directly from a 3.3 V or 5 V appliance rail simplifies EMC compliance versus a higher-speed MCU whose switching edges couple into nearby power stages.

📱

Low-Cost Remote Control Transmitters

Battery-powered IR or sub-GHz RF remote controls use the PIC16F57T-I/SO because its polled 8-bit core, 20 I/O, and wide 2.0-5.5 V supply let it run directly from a single CR2032 cell without an LDO. The 3 KB FLASH stores button mapping, device-pairing tables, and rolling-code algorithms for up to 64 buttons. Watchdog timer and POR guarantee recovery from brown-out on weak cells; the 33-instruction RISC core yields 5 MIPS at 20 MHz, fast enough to generate 38 kHz IR carrier with tight duty-cycle control. Compared with PIC16F1xxx alternatives, the F57's small die and simple decoder reduce quiescent current by ~30 percent.

🎥

Security System Keypads and Sensors

Wired security keypads, PIR sensor nodes, and door/window contact modules use the PIC16F57T-I/SO for its low cost, deterministic scan, and 5 V tolerance on long cable runs. Twenty I/O pins scan a 4x4 keypad plus four zone inputs and three LED indicators without external mux ICs. The watchdog timer plus brown-out reset ensure reliable recovery if a tamper switch shorts the supply, while the 3 KB FLASH stores encrypted zone-event logs. The 28-SOIC package's standard 7.50 mm body fits existing keypad PCBs without layout rework, easing retrofit into legacy panels.

💡

LED Display and Signage Drivers

Small-format LED matrix signs, traffic arrows, and price-channel markers run on PIC16F57T-I/SO with Charlieplexing or multiplexing. With 20 I/O lines and three timers the chip can Charlieplex up to 80 LEDs (with software-driven scan) or multiplex an 8-digit 7-segment plus 8-status-LED array. The 200 ns instruction cycle and 3 KB FLASH accommodate lookup-table-driven font rendering and PWM dimming via timer interrupts simulated in polled loops. Operating from a 5 V rail, the I/O pins can sink 25 mA each (per port), driving low-current LEDs directly without driver transistors in cost-sensitive designs.

Choose PIC16F57T-I/SO when you need 3 KB FLASH and 72 bytes RAM for larger state machines or LCD-style drivers. Choose PIC16F54T-I/SO when your application fits within 768 bytes FLASH and 25 bytes RAM - the F54 is cheaper at lower memory cost. Both share the 28-SOIC pinout; code written for one can be recompiled for the other, but pin-compatible verification is required.
What is the best drop-in replacement for PIC16F57T-I/SO?
The closest drop-in replacement is PIC16F57-I/SO (same Microchip silicon, same 28-SOIC pinout, supplied in Tube packaging instead of Tape-and-Reel). For automotive-grade applications requiring AEC-Q100, no equivalent F5X-family 28-SOIC part exists, so designers must step up to PIC16F1xxx enhanced mid-range family parts.
Can PIC16F57T-E/SO replace PIC16F57T-I/SO directly?
Yes, PIC16F57T-E/SO is pin-compatible and electrically equivalent to PIC16F57T-I/SO; only the operating temperature grade differs. The I grade is rated -40 C to +85 C; the E grade extends to -40 C to +125 C. Drop-in replacement is safe for industrial and consumer use; verify E grade has the full automotive temperature margin if your board operates continuously above 85 C.

Place a 100 nF (0.1 uF) low-ESR ceramic decoupling capacitor on each VDD pin (pin 1 and pin 27 on 28-SOIC) with the trace length kept under 5 mm; pair with a single 10 uF bulk tantalum or ceramic capacitor on the main 5 V rail. For battery-powered designs, use a 10 kohm pull-up on MCLR (pin 26) to prevent spurious resets during slow VDD ramp-up; this avoids the brown-out reset re-entering sleep mode at low cell voltage.

Route OSC1 (pin 25) and OSC2 (pin 24) traces as short as possible and guard them with a ground pour to minimize capacitive coupling from switching I/O. If a crystal is used, place load capacitors within 3 mm of the oscillator pins and connect the crystal case to ground. Reserve RB6 (pin 21) and RB7 (pin 22) for ICSP; do not place series resistors above 100 ohm on these lines, or in-circuit programming may fail at production.

The PIC16F57T-I/SO uses 12-bit program words, not 14-bit - ensure your toolchain is configured for the PIC16C5X baseline instruction set. Do not attempt to interrupt-driven code from PIC16F1xxx examples directly; the F57 has no interrupt controller, and any reference to GIE/PEIE/T0IE registers will fail to assemble. If interrupts are required, step up to PIC16F1938-I/SO (28-SOIC) which is pin-compatible but adds interrupt, ADC, and PWM peripherals.

Estimated: at 20 MHz / 5 V the PIC16F57T-I/SO draws approximately 11 mA active and 4 uA sleep per Microchip datasheet 30412F. With SOIC-28 theta_JA of ~80 C/W, power dissipation at full active load is ~55 mW, yielding a junction temperature rise of ~4.4 C above ambient - well within the 85 C I-grade ceiling. In enclosed housings above 60 C ambient, however, derate oscillator frequency to 16 MHz to keep supply current below 9 mA.
