MPN: PIC12HV752-I/MF ✓ Hoạt độngPIC12HV752-I/MF Tóm tắt
An 8-bit microcontroller (MCU) is a small, self-contained computer-on-a-chip built around an 8-bit data path, integrating CPU, RAM, non-volatile program memory, and peripherals in a single package. Within Microchip's taxonomy, the PIC12HV752 belongs to the mid-range PIC® 12F family - a flash-based CMOS line optimized for ultra-low pin-count applications and positioned hierarchically under 8-bit MCU -> microcontroller -> embedded controller -> semiconductor device.
Key differentiators include two 20 ns high-speed analog comparators ideal for peak current-mode control in switch-mode power supplies, one Capture-Compare-PWM (CCP) module, 4 channels of 10-bit ADC, and an internal 8 MHz oscillator that eliminates external timing components. The 'HV' in the part number denotes the integrated high-voltage shunt regulator that simplifies supplies from AC-DC adapters or 12 V buses.
Typical applications include primary-side regulation in isolated AC-DC converters, LED driver control loops, battery charging circuits, and low-cost general-purpose logic replacement. The DFN-8 (3x3) package provides a compact footprint suitable for space-constrained designs such as IoT edge sensors and consumer electronics.
When designing with this device, ensure the high-voltage supply path includes a current-limiting series resistor sized for worst-case input voltage and minimum load. The exposed thermal pad must be soldered to a copper pour for proper thermal dissipation. MPLAB X IDE with XC8 compiler is the recommended toolchain for firmware development.

Primary-Side Regulation in AC-DC SMPS
The PIC12HV752-I/MF is purpose-built for primary-side regulation in isolated AC-DC converters such as 5W-15W cell phone chargers and LED drivers. The two 20 ns high-speed analog comparators directly sense the primary-side current via a current transformer, enabling peak current-mode control with sub-microsecond response. The integrated HV shunt regulator accepts 12 V to 15 V directly from the rectified mains bulk capacitor through a single dropping resistor, eliminating the auxiliary winding bias supply. According to the datasheet, the 5 MIPS throughput is sufficient to execute a 50 kHz control loop with margin for valley detection and OVP/UVP protection logic. The CCP module generates the PWM drive to the MOSFET gate with programmable dead-band control.

LED Driver Control Loops
The PIC12HV752-I/MF is well suited for constant-current LED driver controllers in commercial and industrial lighting. The 10-bit ADC measures output current via a sense resistor, while the analog comparators detect zero-crossing for boundary conduction mode PFC. The HV shunt simplifies the auxiliary supply when running directly from rectified mains. According to the datasheet, the 6 I/O pins are sufficient for PWM dimming, enable input, fault output, and programming/debug. The 8-pin DFN package (3x3 mm) fits inside compact GU10 and MR16 form-factor LED bulbs, while the exposed pad provides thermal dissipation for the moderate power consumption of the controller itself.

Ghi chú thiết kế
When using the HV shunt regulator, select the external series dropping resistor (R) such that the shunt current (I_SHUNT) plus load current (I_LOAD) keeps the regulator within its 5 mA to 50 mA regulation range across all input voltage conditions. Use R = (V_IN_max - 5V) / (I_SHUNT + I_LOAD_max). Place a 1 uF decoupling capacitor on VDD close to the IC. Without the HV path, supply VDD directly with a regulated 2 V to 5 V source and a 100 nF bypass cap. Estimated power dissipation in the shunt path is (V_IN - 5V) x I_SHUNT.
Solder the exposed thermal pad (EP) of the DFN-8 package to a copper pour on the PCB to achieve the rated theta_JA of approximately 50 C/W. The pad should be connected to VSS for electrical and thermal performance. Estimated: at 25 C ambient and 200 mW dissipation (typical HV shunt operation), the junction temperature rises ~10 C. Without proper EP soldering, the junction temperature can rise above the 150 C limit, causing thermal shutdown.
Place the 100 nF VDD bypass capacitor within 3 mm of pin 8, using a wide ground trace back to pin 5. If the HV shunt is used, place the series resistor as close to pin 8 as possible to minimize parasitic inductance on the high-voltage trace. Keep analog comparator input traces short and away from PWM outputs (RA4/RA5) to avoid coupling. According to the Microchip datasheet, the exposed pad must NOT be left floating - it requires a thermal via array (typically 4-6 vias on 0.5 mm pitch) to inner ground plane.
Do not apply voltages exceeding the absolute maximum on the HV shunt pin without proper current limiting - the internal shunt transistor has limited power dissipation and will enter thermal shutdown at ~150 C junction. Ensure the MCLR pin (RA3, pin 1) has a proper pull-up or voltage clamping if used in a noisy environment, as it can inadvertently trigger resets. Do not load VDD below the 5 mA minimum required for HV shunt regulation, or the regulator will lose regulation.
