PIC16LF1768-I/SS - 8-Bit 32MHz MCU 7KB Flash | Microchip
MPN: PIC16LF1768-I/SS ✓ Hoạt độngPIC16LF1768-I/SS Tóm tắt
A PIC microcontroller is an 8-bit RISC-class embedded processor built around a Harvard architecture with separate program and data buses, optimised for deterministic low-power control. The PIC16 LF (Low-Voltage / Low-Power) sub-family operates down to 1.8V, extending battery lifetime in portable or energy-harvesting systems. PIC16F/LF176x sits within the Microchip PIC16 hierarchy: PIC10/12/16/18 (8-bit) -> PIC16F/LF176x -> PIC16LF1768, offering more analog integration than baseline PIC16F parts at the cost of higher pin count and slightly higher active current.
Key features include 17 I/O pins (high-current capable), one 10-bit ADC with up to 17 channels, two op amps, two 10-bit DACs, two comparators, zero-cross detect, PWM modules and enhanced USART/I2C/SPI. The XLP technology delivers nanoWatt sleep currents, making the device suitable for always-on sensors. An internal 32MHz oscillator eliminates the need for an external crystal in many designs.
Architecturally, the PIC16LF1768 uses Microchip's mid-range 14-bit instruction word with 8-bit data path, an 8-level hardware stack and interrupt-driven I/O. The 7KB Flash supports in-circuit serial programming (ICSP) for field firmware updates, while the integrated op amps and DACs remove the need for external analog ICs in closed-loop control.
Typical applications include industrial sensor conditioning, LED driver control, motor-control PWM, battery-powered IoT endpoints, smart-home lighting and consumer white goods. The 1.8V minimum supply allows direct connection to single-cell Li-ion or two-cell alkaline chemistries.
A key design tip is to budget decoupling: place 100nF and 1uF ceramic capacitors adjacent to VDD/AVDD/VSS, route the ICSP PGC/PGD lines with short stubs and use the internal 32MHz oscillator only when accuracy is non-critical, otherwise specify an external crystal on OSC1/OSC2.

Ứng dụng tiêu biểu
PIC16LF1768-I/SS phù hợp cho 6 Áp dụngs: Battery-Powered Sensor Conditioning, LED Lighting and Dimming Control, Low-Power Motor Control (PWM/FOC front-end), IoT Edge Nodes and Smart-Home Devices, Industrial Sensor Transmitters (4-20mA / 0-10V), Consumer White Goods and Home Appliances.
Battery-Powered Sensor Conditioning
The PIC16LF1768-I/SS is well suited to battery-powered sensor conditioning: its 1.8V minimum supply operates from a single Li-ion cell near end-of-discharge, while the integrated op amps and 10-bit ADC handle thermocouple, bridge or low-side current signals without external analog ICs. With 7KB Flash and 512B RAM it runs typical sensor-fusion or linearisation firmware. XLP nanoWatt sleep currents extend coin-cell lifetime for always-on wireless sensor nodes.

LED Lighting and Dimming Control
The PIC16LF1768-I/SS drives multi-channel LED strings using its PWM modules and zero-cross detect for triac-dimmable mains interfaces. 17 high-current I/O pins sink enough current for indicator LED matrices, while the two 10-bit DACs set constant-current regulator references without external trim pots. Its 1.8V-3.6V range suits both 3.3V digital rails and 2-cell alkaline supplies used in decorative luminaires.

Low-Power Motor Control (PWM/FOC front-end)
For low-power brushed DC or small BLDC front-ends, the PIC16LF1768-I/SS supplies complementary PWM channels, a fast 10-bit ADC for back-EMF sensing, and op amps for current shunt amplification. With 32MHz instruction throughput it runs a 10kHz control loop with adequate margin. The 20-SSOP package fits small PCBs in fans, pumps and appliance sub-systems.

IoT Edge Nodes and Smart-Home Devices
IoT edge nodes benefit from the PIC16LF1768-I/SS's XLP sleep currents in the sub-microamp range and its EUSART/I2C/SPI peripherals for sensor and wireless module links. 7KB Flash runs BLE/Zigbee host-stub firmware or LoRaWAN MAC stacks on entry-level modules. The 1.8V rail matches common coin-cell chemistries used in window/door sensors and occupancy detectors.

Industrial Sensor Transmitters (4-20mA / 0-10V)
The PIC16LF1768-I/SS supports industrial 4-20mA / 0-10V transmitters thanks to its 10-bit DAC and PWM combined with internal op amps for output buffering. Industrial temperature grade (-40C to +85C) suits cabinet mounting, and the 1.8V-3.6V supply operates from loop-powered regulators. Hardware EUSART enables HART or Modbus RTU bridging in field instrumentation.

Consumer White Goods and Home Appliances
Consumer appliances such as washing-machine control boards, dishwasher user interfaces and rice-cooker thermostats use the PIC16LF1768-I/SS for its combination of op amps, ADC, DAC, PWM and zero-cross detect in a single IC. The 20-SSOP package handles wave-solder reflow, and the -40C to +85C industrial grade tolerates appliance thermal environments. 7KB Flash fits typical UI/state-machine firmware.

Ghi chú thiết kế
Place a 100nF ceramic decoupling capacitor as close as possible to VDD (pin 16) and a 10uF bulk capacitor on the same supply trace; AVdd and Vdd share the rail on this part so a single ferrite bead from a clean digital rail is sufficient. For ADC accuracy under load transients, add a separate 100nF on the AVdd pin and route it from a quiet regulator output. Estimated internal consumption at 32MHz with all peripherals enabled is roughly 6 mA; budgeting 20 mA on the regulator leaves margin for I/O switching.
Do not exceed 32MHz instruction frequency below 2.7V VDD - on the LF variant this down-shifts to 16MHz. Driving LEDs directly from RA7/OSC2 before configuring the oscillator can prevent programmer hand-shake on the ICSP lines and brick field updates; configure the oscillator before driving outputs. Always tie ICSPCLK/ICSPDAT pins to known levels or high-impedance during reset so the programmer can take ownership.
Route ICSP lines (RB6/RB7) with short stubs and avoid placing other signal traces in parallel. The internal op-amp outputs on RA2 and RA5 are not designed to drive long PCB traces - add a series resistor of 100 ohm if the feedback network is more than 25 mm from the pin. For high-impedance analog inputs (AN3, AN4), keep traces short and surround them with a ground pour to minimise coupled noise into the 10-bit ADC.
