PIC16LF747-I/P Tóm tắt

The Microchip PIC16LF747-I/P is an 8-bit RISC microcontroller from the PIC16 family featuring 7KB (4K x 14 words) of Flash program memory, 368 bytes of RAM, and up to 36 digital I/O pins in a 40-pin PDIP (DIP-40) through-hole package. It operates from a 2.0V to 5.5V supply and supports a maximum clock speed of 10MHz, integrating peripherals such as 10-bit ADC, USART, SPI/I2C, capture/compare/PWM (CCP), and comparators suitable for general-purpose embedded control.

A microcontroller (MCU) is a single-chip computer that integrates a CPU, RAM, non-volatile program memory (Flash or EEPROM), and peripheral interfaces into one package. The PIC16 family sits in the 8-bit RISC microcontroller segment of the broader microcontroller IC category, which itself is a subset of integrated circuits in the semiconductor hierarchy. PIC microcontrollers execute one instruction per clock cycle (excluding branches) using a Harvard-architecture RISC core, providing deterministic timing for real-time embedded applications.

Key specifications include 35 instructions (14-bit word width), 8 stack levels, an internal 8 MHz oscillator with PLL options, two 8-bit timers plus one 16-bit timer, a 10-bit ADC with up to 14 input channels, and Master Synchronous Serial Port (MSSP) supporting both SPI and I2C. The 'LF' prefix indicates the extended low-voltage operating range of 2.0V to 5.5V, whereas 'F' variants typically require 4.0V minimum. The 'I' suffix denotes the industrial temperature grade (-40C to +85C).

The PIC16LF747 uses a 14-bit instruction width with a Harvard memory architecture separating program and data buses, enabling simultaneous instruction fetch and data access. Its NanoWatt Technology provides multiple power-managed modes (Run, Idle, Sleep) with wake-up on interrupt, supporting battery-powered designs. The enhanced CCP module offers up to 10-bit PWM resolution and the Enhanced USART supports RS-232, RS-485 and LIN protocols.

Typical applications include industrial control panels, consumer appliance interfaces, simple sensor hubs, low-power data loggers, and educational/hobbyist projects. The wide 2.0V-5.5V operating range and nanoWatt sleep modes make it suitable for battery-backed systems operating from two or three alkaline cells, while the 36 I/O pins accommodate moderate-complexity user interfaces.

When selecting this device, ensure the 40-pin PDIP footprint is acceptable for the PCB layout - the part shares its pinout with several PIC16F/PIC18F/PIC16LF 40-pin devices. For ISP (in-system programming), reserve pins RB6 (PGC) and RB7 (PGD) and ensure the MCLR/Vpp reset pin has the required 10k pull-up.

No, the PIC16F747-I/P requires at least 4.0 V supply and will not operate reliably at 3.3 V. If your design runs at 3.3 V, the PIC16LF747-I/P itself is the correct part, or use a 3.3 V-compatible alternative such as PIC16LF767 (40-pin) or PIC18LF4620 (40-pin, 2.0-5.5 V) with code migration. Verify peripheral register mapping before switching families.
What are the key specifications engineers should know about PIC16LF747-I/P?
Engineers evaluating PIC16LF747-I/P should focus on these five: 7 KB Flash (firmware capacity), 2.0-5.5 V supply (LF low-voltage range), 36 I/O in 40-PDIP (footprint & pin budget), 10-bit ADC with 14 inputs (analog sensing), and 368 bytes RAM (data buffer). Together these define the device's application envelope for general-purpose 8-bit embedded control.
What cross-brand equivalent exists for PIC16LF747-I/P?
No major non-Microchip brand produces a direct drop-in for PIC16LF747-I/P because PIC16 is a proprietary Harvard RISC architecture with unique peripherals. Cross-brand alternatives require switching architecture - for example, ATmega328P-PU (40-pin PDIP) from Microchip/Atmel offers similar Flash/RAM with AVR core, but code rewrite is required. The 40-pin PDIP footprint is common to PIC16, PIC18, and ATmega families.

Dữ liệu tham khảo kỹ thuật cho PIC16LF747-I/P — so sánh, hướng dẫn thiết kế và thông tin tuân thủ.

Hướng dẫn chọn lựa

Choose PIC16LF747-I/P when your design runs from a 3.3 V or battery supply (2.0-5.5 V), needs 36 I/O pins in a 40-pin PDIP through-hole footprint, and fits within 7 KB Flash / 368 bytes RAM. Pick PIC16F747-I/P if your rails are strictly 5 V and you don't need the LF range. Migrate to PIC16LF767-I/P when you need additional ADC channels or comparators in the same voltage range and footprint. For designs requiring more headroom (>7 KB firmware, >368 RAM), step up to PIC18LF4520-I/P and accept the PIC18 register migration. Consider ATmega328P-PU only if your team prefers AVR tools or plans to repurpose the bootloader (Arduino) - it has only 23 usable I/O in the same 40-pin PDIP. For modern designs with low-power constraints, evaluate PIC16LF19176-I/MV or PIC16LF18855-I/SP before deciding - they offer better sleep currents but require SMD packages.

Ghi chú thiết kế

Place a 100 nF ceramic decoupling capacitor as close as possible to each VDD pin (pins 11 and 32) with a short trace to the adjacent VSS pin. For designs driving heavy loads or operating near 5 V, add a 10 uF bulk capacitor at the MCU entry point. The PIC16LF747's NanoWatt modes require stable VDD to wake from sleep without spurious resets - keep VDD rise time below 50 ms at power-up to avoid undefined POR behavior.

Route ICSP pins RB6 (PGC, pin 39) and RB7 (PGD, pin 40) to an in-circuit programming header with no series resistors or buffering; these pins are also general I/O and must be accessible at all times for ISP. Place the ICSP connector at the PCB edge with a 100-ohm series protection resistor on each line if the connector is exposed. Keep oscillator traces (OSC1/OSC2) short and shielded with a ground guard ring on both sides for noise immunity.

Do not leave MCLR/VPP (pin 1) floating - it requires a 10 kohm pull-up to VDD or the MCU will reset intermittently. When using the parallel slave port (PSP), ensure PSV/PSP control lines are configured correctly and tri-stated when not in use to avoid bus contention. The PIC16LF747's LF variant is sensitive to brown-out: enable the Brown-out Reset (BOR) module for battery-powered designs where VDD may sag below 2.0 V during transient loads.

When using ADC channels for analog sensing, add an RC low-pass filter (1 kohm + 100 pF) at each analog input to attenuate noise above the Nyquist limit (5 kHz at 10 ksps). Configure unused ADC pins as digital outputs low or inputs with weak pull-ups to prevent floating-node shoot-through current. The internal bandgap reference is acceptable for general 8-bit conversion but pair with an external 4.096 V reference (e.g. MCP1541) for ratiometric measurements exceeding 0.5% absolute accuracy.
