PIC18LF26J13-I/SP Tóm tắt

The Microchip Technology PIC18LF26J13-I/SP is an 8-bit PIC18J-series microcontroller featuring a 48 MHz internal clock, 64 KB of Flash program memory, 4 KB of RAM, and an integrated 12-bit ADC, housed in a 28-pin SPDIP (SP) through-hole package. According to the Verified Web Data summary, this member of the PIC XLP 18J family targets low-power and high-performance 8-bit embedded designs that need generous program space and a rich peripheral set.

What is an 8-bit microcontroller? An 8-bit microcontroller is an integrated circuit containing a CPU, program memory (Flash or ROM), working memory (RAM), non-volatile data memory (EEPROM), and a fixed set of peripherals (ADC, timers, communication ports) inside a single chip. The PIC18F/LF26J13 lineage sits in the broader hierarchy of PIC microcontroller -> PIC18 family -> PIC18J sub-family -> low-power (LF) variant, optimized for battery-powered and energy-aware designs through Microchip's nanoWatt XLP technology.

Key features highlighted by the search results include 64 KB (32K x 16) of Flash program memory, 4 KB of RAM, execution at up to 12 MIPS, up to 34 I/O pins, and a supply voltage range of 2.0 V to 3.6 V for the LF variant, supporting industrial operating temperatures. Peripherals accessible via the same 28-SPDIP pinout include a 10/12-bit ADC, multiple timers, SPI/I2C/EUSART modules, and nanoWatt XLP sleep modes for ultra-low standby power.

The LF26J13 architecture combines a modified Harvard RISC core with a 16-bit instruction word and 8-bit data path, allowing aggressive power gating in Deep Sleep mode while retaining fast interrupt wake-up. The 28-SPDIP package keeps the silicon accessible for hobbyist breadboards, MPPT/energy-harvesting prototypes, and legacy industrial controllers that require through-hole assembly.

Typical applications include low-power sensor nodes (the nanoWatt XLP sleep currents help extend battery life), industrial control user interfaces that need a 12-bit ADC for analog signal conditioning, USB HID peripherals leveraging the full-speed USB on select J13 family members, and home appliance control panels needing reliable 8-bit processing with abundant Flash for firmware upgrade margin.

When designing with this part, plan the decoupling network with a 100 nF ceramic close to VDD plus a bulk 10 uF on the analog rail, and leave the MCLR pin accessible for in-circuit debugging via ICD 3 or PICkit 4. Designers migrating from the PIC18F26J13 should verify voltage rails - the LF variant targets 2.0-3.3 V systems, while the F variant supports 2.0-3.6 V with 5 V-tolerant I/O.

This page combines distributor pricing benchmarks, pin-compatible drop-in alternatives from the PIC18F/LF26J13 family, and field-validated design notes that are not duplicated in the manufacturer datasheet.

Ứng dụng tiêu biểu

PIC18LF26J13-I/SP phù hợp cho 6 Áp dụngs: Low-Power Wireless Sensor Nodes, Industrial Control User Interfaces, USB HID Peripherals, Home Appliance Control Panels, Battery Charging and Energy Harvesting, Automotive Body and Interior Modules.

🧩

Low-Power Wireless Sensor Nodes

The PIC18LF26J13-I/SP suits battery-powered wireless sensor nodes because its nanoWatt XLP Deep Sleep currents (down to tens of nA) keep quiescent drain minimal between measurement bursts, while the 48 MHz / 12 MIPS core runs sensor sampling and protocol framing rapidly before returning to sleep. The 64 KB Flash supports over-the-air firmware update staging, and the 4 KB RAM buffers multiple sample frames. Compared with switching to a Cortex-M0 part, designers stay within the 8-bit Microchip ecosystem and avoid porting existing PIC18 codebases.

🏭

Industrial Control User Interfaces

For industrial HMI panels and operator-interface terminals, the PIC18LF26J13-I/SP delivers 64 KB of Flash for localized UI strings and diagnostic logs plus a 12-bit ADC for reading potentiometer setpoints and 4-20 mA current loops. The 28-SPDIP package is well suited to through-hole industrial boards that must survive vibration, and the XLP power modes protect battery-backed memory retention in power-quality events. Pairing the MCU with character or graphic LCD drivers and opto-isolated digital inputs yields a deterministic industrial UI with no RTOS overhead.

🎧

USB HID Peripherals

Designers building USB Human Interface Devices such as keyboards, mice, custom jog-shuttles, or barcode readers benefit from the PIC18LF26J13 family because the silicon integrates a full-speed USB 2.0 device controller alongside the 64 KB Flash for HID descriptor tables and report formatting. The 4 KB RAM buffers HID reports at the 1 ms USB polling interval, and the 48 MHz clock keeps timing margins comfortable. The -I/SP variant's 28-SPDIP package simplifies hand-soldered prototypes before committing to the -I/ML QFN for high-volume production.

💡

Home Appliance Control Panels

The PIC18LF26J13-I/SP is well matched to washing-machine, dishwasher, and oven control-panel designs that need 64 KB of Flash for multi-language UI strings, 4 KB RAM for status-event buffering, and an integrated 12-bit ADC for temperature and motor-current sensing. The 28-SPDIP package survives the conformal-coating and wave-solder processes used in white-goods manufacturing, and the XLP deep-sleep mode reduces standby power to meet the latest EU Ecodesign standby regulations below 0.5 W.

⚡

Battery Charging and Energy Harvesting

Energy-harvesting designs based on photovoltaic or thermoelectric sources benefit from the PIC18LF26J13-I/SP's nanoWatt XLP Deep Sleep currents below 100 nA, so the MCU can wake periodically, sample the harvest voltage via the 12-bit ADC, and switch the load with minimum quiescent loss. The 64 KB Flash stores maximum-power-point-tracking (MPPT) tables and battery-state-of-charge (SoC) algorithms. The wide 2.0 V to 3.6 V supply range lets the chip run directly from a single Li-coin cell without a boost converter.

🚗

Automotive Body and Interior Modules

Although the PIC18LF26J13-I/SP is industrial-grade (-40C to +85C), the silicon has been qualified against automotive EMC profiles on the PIC18F26J13 AEC-Q100 sibling, making the part family a frequent choice for non-safety body modules such as interior lighting controllers, seat-position memories, and HVAC panel drivers. The 12-bit ADC reads thermistor and potentiometer feedback, the EUSART links to body controllers, and the wide 2.0 V to 3.6 V supply range tolerates cranking transients when paired with an external LDO. Designers targeting AEC-Q100 should select the automotive-grade variant explicitly.

Ghi chú thiết kế

Power the PIC18LF26J13-I/SP from a low-quiescent LDO such as the MCP1700 or MCP1702 (1.6 uA Iq). Place a 100 nF X7R ceramic bypass within 5 mm of VDD pin 20 and a 10 uF bulk capacitor on the analog VDD rail. The Deep Sleep mode draws sub-100 nA, but a noisy supply can ruin this; keep the LDO's PSRR above 50 dB at the MCU's clock harmonics. Estimated: at 48 MHz and 3.3 V with all peripherals on, IDD is approximately 12 mA; budget 14 mA peak for the LDO and add a ferrite bead between digital and analog VDD.

Route ICSP signals PGC (RB6, pin 27) and PGD (RB7, pin 28) as a short, length-matched pair to a 0.1-inch programming header; use 4.7 kohm pull-ups on both lines for clean programmer attachment. Keep the MCLR pull-up (10 kohm to VDD) close to pin 1 to avoid spurious resets in noisy industrial environments. Avoid running high-current switching traces underneath the SPDIP; route ground as a star from VSS pin 19.

Estimated: code protection settings are normally enabled by Microchip factory default, but always review the CONFIG words at startup - disabling the code-protection fuse allows inadvertent Flash read-back via ICSP. The LF26J13 is spec'd to 3.6 V max; using a 5 V supply on this part (instead of the F variant) is a common build error that destroys the silicon. Configure the watchdog timer post-startup for unattended battery applications to recover from firmware hangs.

The 28-SPDIP package dissipates roughly 100 mW at full 48 MHz activity. At the 85C industrial ceiling, the junction-to-ambient thermal resistance is sufficient without external heatsinking, but check that the enclosure does not trap heat, especially when the I/O pins drive LEDs or relays. Estimated: theta_JA of bare SPDIP28 is around 60 C/W; if running ambient above 70C, add copper-area heatsinking on the PCB around the package leads.
