LC79DBEK - Quectel LC79D GNSS Evaluation Board Kit | EVB
MPN: LC79DBEK ✓ 啟用中LC79DBEK 概覽
The LC79D module at the heart of the kit is a multi-constellation GNSS receiver module that integrates a 28nm GNSS chipset, on-board LNAs and SAW filters, and an advanced low-power management solution. A GNSS receiver module is a satellite-radio receiver that calculates its own 3-D position, velocity and time by trilaterating ranging signals from multiple Medium Earth Orbit (MEO) and Geosynchronous (GEO) satellites; in the broader taxonomy, GNSS modules sit under satellite-positioning receivers, then radio-frequency receivers, then wireless modules, then electronic modules. Quectel's LC79D family targets fleet telematics, vehicle tracking, asset monitoring and AIS-140-compliant in-vehicle systems.
Key features of the development kit include direct access to UART, I2C and PPS interfaces, integrated SMA connector for active GNSS antenna, USB-to-UART bridge for direct PC connection, status LEDs for power and 1PPS, and a regulated 3.3V reference supply. The on-module LNAs and SAW filters harden acquisition against weak-signal and jamming-rich environments, which is critical for aftermarket vehicle installations and metal-shielded telematics enclosures.
The LC79D module uses 28nm CMOS process technology, enabling the low power consumption that battery-powered asset trackers require. Multi-constellation concurrent operation shortens time-to-first-fix (TTFF) and improves position accuracy in urban canyons, where single-constellation receivers suffer frequent dropouts. The module is AIS-140 compliant, an Indian automotive telematics standard that mandates specific update rates, accuracy and security features for commercial vehicles.
Typical applications include AIS-140-compliant vehicle tracking units, fleet management telematics, e-call and ERA-GLONASS-style emergency call systems, two-wheeler telematics boxes, asset tracking and cold-chain monitoring, and shared-mobility scooter trackers. The evaluation kit accelerates bench validation before committing to a custom LC79D carrier PCB layout.
When designing with this kit, always use the included active LNA antenna in the SMA port for first-time verification; passive antennas will yield degraded CN0 figures and longer TTFF. Ensure host firmware drives the LC79D's on/off and reset pins per the LC79D GNSS specification rather than relying solely on supply-rail cycling, since the module's backup-domain logic requires a controlled shutdown sequence to preserve ephemeris.

典型應用
LC79DBEK 適用於 6 應用s: AIS-140 Vehicle Tracking Unit (VTU), Fleet Management Telematics, Two-Wheeler Telematics Box, Asset Tracking and Cold-Chain Monitoring, eCall / ERA-GLONASS Emergency Call System, Shared-Mobility Scooter Tracker.
AIS-140 Vehicle Tracking Unit (VTU)
The LC79DBEK evaluation kit provides a direct AIS-140-compliant reference design for Indian commercial-vehicle telematics VTUs. The underlying LC79D module is validated for AIS-140 position accuracy and reporting intervals, and the on-board LNAs plus SAW filters harden acquisition against weak-signal and metal-shielded vehicle installations. Engineers can drive the kit from a host MCU over UART/1PPS to validate update-rate and reporting cadence before designing the production VTU PCB.
推薦
Fleet Management Telematics
The LC79DBEK gives fleet operators a bench platform to validate concurrency across GPS, GLONASS, Galileo and BeiDou, which improves accuracy in urban-canyon depot environments where single-constellation receivers drop fixes. The 28nm chipset minimizes continuous-draw current during long idle periods, and the on-board 3.3V regulator simplifies integration with MCUs that lack a dedicated GNSS LDO. Combined with a cellular modem, the kit demonstrates end-to-end position-over-cellular reporting.

Two-Wheeler Telematics Box
Compact two-wheeler telematics boxes require low-power multi-GNSS, AIS-140-style position reporting and the ability to maintain acquisition under heavy RF shielding (e.g. inside fairings). The LC79D module on this EVB uses 28nm process technology and integrated SAW filters to keep time-to-first-fix short and tracking power low, suiting battery-backed motorcycle and scooter trackers. The kit's small bench footprint makes it suitable for in-vehicle verification before custom PCB integration.

Asset Tracking and Cold-Chain Monitoring
Reefer trailers, pallets and intermodal containers need dependable positioning across mixed GNSS constellations during long offline periods. The LC79DBEK demonstrates the LC79D's concurrent multi-GNSS acquisition, which preserves fix continuity in transit through tunnels and dense urban areas. Low tracking current complements battery-only deployments such as tracker-on-pallet or 5-year-life cold-chain loggers.
推薦
eCall / ERA-GLONASS Emergency Call System
Emergency-call systems mandate precise position determination on demand and within short TTFF windows after cold-start. The LC79DBEK exposes the LC79D's 1PPS and UART streams, allowing engineers to verify that the host can wake, acquire a fix, and forward coordinates inside the regulatory timing envelope. The integrated LNAs are particularly valuable for the metal-shielded roof-pod mounting common in eCall hardware.
推薦
Shared-Mobility Scooter Tracker
Shared e-scooter and e-bike platforms rely on small, low-power positioning hardware that can survive outdoor charging-dock enclosures and constant vibration. The LC79DBEK lets engineers prototype the LC79D's concurrency and tracking-power behavior with a representative host MCU, validating cold-start time and battery-life estimates before piloting. The evaluation board's antenna SMA port accepts a typical active patch the production tracker design will eventually use.

設計說明
Always use an active GNSS antenna (with integrated LNA) at the EVB's SMA port for first-time evaluation; passive patch antennas will yield degraded CN0 and substantially longer cold-start TTFF, masking the LC79D module's actual sensitivity. Verify the antenna feed supplies 3.0-5.0V DC bias; under-biasing the active LNA often goes unnoticed but cuts CN0 by 5-10 dB-Hz.
Place the SMA connector and the LC79D module's RF input trace on a 50-ohm controlled-impedance microstrip, keep the trace as short as physically possible, and ground the LC79D module's RF ground pad with multiple stitched vias. A long, mismatched trace between EVB-side SMA and the LC79D's antenna pin can shift the noise floor by several dB and effectively negate the benefit of the on-board SAW filter.
The EVB's on-board 3.3V regulator supplies the LC79D module's VCC; in production designs, route VCC through an LDO fed from the host's main supply rather than relying on a switching regulator's output, because switching residual can modulate acquisition and degrade 1PPS jitter. Place a 1uF X7R close to the LC79D VCC pin to absorb transient current spikes during acquisition.
When transitioning from the LC79DBEK to a custom carrier PCB, allocate at least 30 mm of clearance around the active antenna - any nearby battery, coax, or noisy DC-DC switcher can pull the LC79D's noise figure. Avoid routing the 1PPS trace parallel to switching-regulator feedback or near DC-DC inductors to keep sub-100 ns timing precision.
