PIC18F1320-E/SO 概述
What is a PIC18F microcontroller? The PIC18F family is Microchip's enhanced 8-bit microcontroller line that extends the baseline PIC16 architecture with a 16-bit instruction word, hardware multiplier, and linear program memory addressing up to 2 MB. It belongs to the broader microcontrollers > embedded controllers > integrated circuits > semiconductor device taxonomy, serving as the core computing element in countless battery-powered, automotive, and industrial subsystems.
Key features include 8KB of self-programmable flash, 256 bytes of SRAM, 10-bit multi-channel analog-to-digital conversion, an enhanced capture/compare/PWM (ECCP) module, and six software-controlled nanoWatt power-managed modes that drop consumption to as low as 0.1 uA in standby. The wide 2.0V to 5.5V operating range lets a single design serve both 3.3V and 5V rails, simplifying BOM across product variants.
The device executes one instruction per 4-clock cycle at up to 25 MHz (40 MHz on the -I industrial parts), yielding 10 MIPS throughput. Integrated peripherals include a USART with LIN support, MSSP for SPI/I2C, two 8-bit timers plus two 16-bit timers, dual analog comparators, and a configurable reference - all on-chip, eliminating external glue logic in compact 18-pin designs.
Typical applications include remote controls, sensor interface front-ends, white-goods motor control, battery chargers, low-end smart meters, and industrial sensor hubs. Industrial temperature range of -40C to +125C, plus an E suffix denoting high-temperature plastic encapsulation, makes it suitable for harsh-environment controllers and under-hood automotive nodes.
When laying out the PCB, place the 0.1 uF VDD decoupling capacitor within 5 mm of the VDD pin and use a solid ground pour beneath the part. Leave pin 1 (MCLR) accessible for in-circuit serial programming (ICSP); a 10 kohm pull-up to VDD is required if the internal pull-up is not used. Avoid routing high-speed signals adjacent to the analog AVss/AVdd pair to minimize crosstalk into the ADC.
This page consolidates real distributor pricing, drop-in alternative MPNs, application guidance, and a pin-by-pin comparison that the bare datasheet does not provide, giving procurement and design engineers a single source of verified information for the PIC18F1320-E/SO.

典型应用
PIC18F1320-E/SO 适用于 6 应用s: Battery-Operated Remote Controls, Industrial Sensor Hubs, White-Goods Motor Control, Smart Meter Edge Nodes, Automotive Body Controllers, Battery Chargers and Power Banks.
Battery-Operated Remote Controls
The PIC18F1320-E/SO is well matched to handheld remote controls because its nanoWatt standby current of just 0.1 uA lets a single coin cell run for years between replacements. The 2.0V to 5.5V supply range accepts 2xAA, 2xAAA, or CR2032 cells directly without regulation. The integrated EUSART plus MSSP handles IR, sub-GHz radio, or BLE module links, while the 10-bit ADC and ECCP module can drive haptic feedback or status LED PWM. Real-world designs achieve <1 uA average draw with sleep + wake-on-pin. Compared with discrete 8-bit logic, the on-chip flash simplifies OTA-less firmware updates via ICSP.
推荐
Industrial Sensor Hubs
In industrial sensor hubs, the PIC18F1320-E/SO aggregates analog and digital signals from thermocouples, RTDs, pressure transducers, and switches. Its 10-bit ADC with 7 channels handles multiple sensor inputs simultaneously, while the 16 I/O pins fan out to relay drivers, optocouplers, and indicator LEDs. The -40C to +125C E-grade is essential for cabinet-mounted controls where ambient can reach 80C plus self-heating. The 8 KB flash stores calibration tables and linearization routines, while the 256-byte EEPROM retains configuration across power cycles without an external FRAM.
推荐
White-Goods Motor Control
The PIC18F1320-E/SO drives small BLDC, stepper, and universal-motor stages in dishwashers, washing machines, and refrigerator compressors. The ECCP module outputs complementary PWM with programmable dead time, dead-band control, and fault inputs - directly interfacing half-bridge drivers like the IRS2003 or FAN7842. The 16 I/O and the analog reference generator support tachometer feedback from Hall sensors or BEMF. The wide operating temperature and 25 MHz throughput let the firmware close current and speed loops at 1 kHz with margin.
推荐
Smart Meter Edge Nodes
Smart-meter edge nodes - electricity, gas, and water - use the PIC18F1320-E/SO to digitize metering pulses, log consumption, and drive low-power RF or PLC modems. The 10-bit ADC and analog comparators detect zero-crossing of the AC mains for line-frequency measurement, while the EUSART plus MSSP drive UART-based or SPI-based radio modules. With nanoWatt standby at 0.1 uA, battery-backed nodes last over 10 years. The 8 KB flash fits DLMS/COSEM or simple Modbus stacks. Production designs benefit from the extended -40C to +125C temperature range for outdoor enclosures.
推荐
Automotive Body Controllers
Under-hood and in-cabin automotive body controllers leverage the PIC18F1320-E/SO for seat controllers, mirror adjusters, climate sensors, and lighting drivers. The E-grade -40C to +125C rating covers under-hood applications, while the 16 I/O pins drive relays and LED strings directly. The 10-bit ADC reads battery voltage, temperature, and current sense, while the EUSART supports LIN bus for body-network communication. Production designers should validate against AEC-Q100 requirements, which may mandate a Q-graded part; the standard E suffix is suitable for non-safety automotive body electronics.
推荐
Battery Chargers and Power Banks
Lithium-ion battery chargers and USB power banks use the PIC18F1320-E/SO as the supervisor that monitors cell voltage, current, and temperature, drives status LEDs, and communicates with a host over USB. The 10-bit ADC measures up to 7 cell-monitoring points, while the ECCP module generates PWM to control a buck or boost converter. The 2.0V to 5.5V supply directly accepts a single Li-ion cell. EEPROM stores calibration and charging profiles that persist across power cycles, and the nanoWatt modes keep quiescent draw low when no device is connected.

设计说明
The PIC18F1320-E/SO nanoWatt Technology provides six software-controlled power modes including Sleep (CPU off, peripherals off, 0.1 uA typical), Idle (CPU off, peripherals on), and prioritized peripheral wake-up. To achieve datasheet standby numbers, disable all unused peripherals via PMD registers before entering Sleep and configure wake-on-change (IOC) on interrupt pins. Estimated: with all peripherals disabled and only the watchdog enabled, the typical Sleep current is 0.1 uA at 3.0 V per the Microchip datasheet, allowing a CR2032 coin cell to last >10 years.
Place the 0.1 uF VDD decoupling capacitor within 5 mm of the VDD pin (pin 19 on the 18-SOIC), using a short, wide trace or via directly to the ground pour. Add a bulk 10 uF tantalum or aluminum electrolytic capacitor on the same node to handle digital transient current. Tie AVSS pin to the same ground as VSS via a single-point connection to avoid ground-loop noise coupling into the ADC. Keep analog traces (AN0-AN5) short and routed away from switching nodes such as PWM outputs.
Do not omit the MCLR pull-up resistor. The MCLR pin (pin 1) must be tied to VDD through a 10 kohm resistor for normal operation; without it the part will hold in reset. If using ICSP, follow the Microchip ICSP programming specification for the diode/series-resistor network. Also ensure configuration bits are set correctly: the oscillator selection (Fosc) must match the external crystal or internal RC used, and the watchdog timer (WDT) must be disabled unless explicitly needed. Brown-out reset (BOR) should be enabled to ensure safe startup at low VDD.
Route the crystal or resonator traces symmetrically from OSC1 (pin 9) and OSC2 (pin 10) with short, equal-length traces to the load capacitors. Place the load caps within 5 mm of the IC pins and connect their common ground directly to VSS. For ADC accuracy, surround analog pins (AN0-AN5) with a ground guard ring on the PCB to reject digital switching noise. Route PWM outputs (CCP1, CCP2) away from analog input traces.
