LTC2265CUJ-12 Übersicht
An analog-to-digital converter (ADC) is a semiconductor device that converts continuous analog signals into discrete digital codes. The pipelined ADC architecture, used by the LTC2265CUJ-12, employs multiple cascaded low-resolution stages with sample-and-hold amplifiers and digital error correction. This architecture sits within the broader hierarchy of: ADC -> data converter -> mixed-signal IC -> power management and signal chain semiconductor. Pipelined ADCs are favored over successive-approximation (SAR) types at sample rates above ~10 Msps because they balance speed, resolution and power consumption.
Key features of the LTC2265CUJ-12 include dual 12-bit simultaneous-sampling channels at 65 Msps each, low power consumption, an LVDS or CMOS selectable digital interface, integrated input buffers and a flexible clock input. The 40-lead QFN (6x6) package provides a small footprint while the exposed thermal pad ensures low thermal resistance (theta-JA approximately 30 C/W) suitable for fanless embedded designs. Per the manufacturer datasheet, the part supports an analog supply near 1.8V and a digital supply near 1.8V, both essential for low-power operation.
The LTC2265CUJ-12 uses a multi-stage pipeline per channel with proprietary SHA front-end and on-chip dither, achieving effective spurious-free dynamic range (SFDR) well above Nyquist with no missing codes. The dual simultaneous sampling enables I/Q demodulation or orthogonal channel capture without external synchronization, a distinct advantage over multiplexed ADCs.
Typical applications include cellular base-station receivers, IF sampling in software-defined radio, medical imaging front-ends such as ultrasound, multi-channel data acquisition and industrial process control. Designers commonly pair the ADC with an Analog Devices low-noise LDO such as the LT3042 and a high-speed differential amplifier such as the ADA4927 to realize a complete signal chain.
When designing with this device, maintain a continuous clock at the ENC input, decouple AVDD and DVDD with 1uF and 0.1uF ceramic capacitors placed within 2mm of the supply pins, and provide a clean low-jitter clock. Input common-mode and input amplitude must conform to the datasheet's recommended settings to preserve SFDR.

Wichtigste Unterscheidungsmerkmale
- Dual truly-simultaneous sampling on a single die (vs. LTC2265IUJ-12 (industrial grade variant))
- 65 Msps sample rate at 12-bit resolution in 6x6 mm QFN (vs. LTC2260CUJ-14 (40 Msps, 14-bit))

Designhinweise
The exposed thermal pad on the bottom of the 40-QFN package must be soldered to a continuous ground plane to meet the datasheet thermal resistance and to provide the analog ground return for the front-end amplifiers. Use at least 5 thermal vias (0.3 mm drill, 1.0 mm pitch) to an inner ground plane. Estimated: with theta-JA around 30 C/W and total AVDD + OVDD dissipation of about 200 mW at full 65 Msps dual-channel operation, junction temperature rise is approximately 6 C above ambient, well within the 70 C commercial limit.
Place a 1 uF X7R ceramic decoupling capacitor within 2 mm of each AVDD and OVDD pin, plus a 0.1 uF high-frequency bypass in parallel. Use an isolated analog ground island on the top layer connected to the system ground at a single point near the ADC, with the digital output return currents kept physically away from the analog input traces to avoid switching noise coupling into the front end.
Drive the ENC+ / ENC- clock input differentially using a low-jitter clock generator such as the LTC6953 or a high-speed LVDS buffer. Differential clocks minimize aperture jitter and maximize SFDR. Keep the clock trace impedance matched to 100 ohms differential and short - ideally under 25 mm - to limit PCB-induced jitter that would otherwise degrade SNR at high analog input frequencies.
Do not operate the ADC with the exposed pad unsoldered - thermal runaway and degraded ground return will cause ADC output errors. Do not leave the digital outputs disconnected - unused LVDS/CMOS outputs must be terminated per the datasheet. Do not exceed 1.9 V on AVDD or OVDD; the absolute maximum is 2.0 V. Do not multiplex a single analog input to both channels - the architecture assumes two independent analog sources for true simultaneous sampling.
Compliance-Informationen
