SI5335C-B-GM Übersicht

The Skyworks Solutions (formerly Silicon Labs) SI5335C-B-GM is a web-customizable, any-frequency, any-output quad clock generator housed in a 24-pin QFN package. The base part number SI5335C-B-GM identifies the unprogrammed factory default configuration; the full ordering code is completed with a customer-specific 5-digit frequency code at the -B suffix. The device synthesizes four non-integer-related output frequencies between 1 MHz and 350 MHz and supports any mix of differential (LVPECL, LVDS, HCSL) or single-ended (LVCMOS, SSTL) output formats from a single device.

A clock generator (also called a frequency synthesizer or clock generator IC) is a timing IC that produces one or more reference-grade output clocks from a single input reference, replacing multiple crystal oscillators and reducing BOM cost in systems that previously required separate XOs for each frequency. Modern quad clock generators with MultiSynth fractional dividers extend this concept by allowing all four outputs to run on independent, non-integer-related frequencies, eliminating frequency-planning restrictions at the architecture stage.

Key features of the Si5335C family include a frequency range of 1 MHz to 350 MHz per output, sub-200 fs RMS phase jitter (12 kHz to 20 MHz), four independent MultiSynth fractional divider blocks, and five user-defined pins (3, 5, 6, 12, 19) selectable via the ClockBuilder utility. The 24-pin QFN package has a small 4x4 mm footprint and supports storage temperatures from -65 °C to +150 °C.

Internally the Si5335C uses a PLL locked to a 2.5–50 MHz external reference, followed by Skyworks' patented MultiSynth fractional-N divider architecture that provides 0 ppm frequency synthesis error on every output independently. Per-bank supply pins (3.3 V, 2.5 V, 1.8 V, 1.5 V) mean each output bank can drive a different logic level without level translators, simplifying multi-format designs.

Typical applications include telecom and networking line cards, multi-rate Ethernet PHYs, FPGA and processor reference clocks, PCIe Gen 2/3 reference generation, and broadcast video equipment where multiple unrelated frequencies must coexist. Per the manufacturer, the part is supplied in an industrial temperature grade.

When designing in the Si5335C, drive the device with a clean external crystal or CMOS reference and use Skyworks' ClockBuilder desktop utility to generate the per-order factory-programmed NVM image before submitting your unique B-suffix code. Per the datasheet, output format, output enable polarity, and I²C address are configured via the B-code, not by external strapping.

This page synthesizes distributor pricing, drop-in B-code ordering variants, and practical ClockBuilder workflow notes that supplement the manufacturer datasheet.

Typische Anwendungen

SI5335C-B-GM ist geeignet für 6 Anwendungs: Multi-Rate Ethernet PHY Clocking, FPGA Reference & Logic Clock Tree, Telecom Line Card Timing, PCIe Gen 2/3 Reference Generation, Broadcast Video & Image Processing, Industrial Automation & Control.

🌐

Multi-Rate Ethernet PHY Clocking

The SI5335C-B-GM's 1 MHz to 350 MHz per-output range and sub-200 fs RMS jitter make it well suited for supplying reference clocks to multi-rate Ethernet PHYs that switch between 1G, 10G, and 25G rates. Four independent MultiSynth fractional dividers let one SI5335C replace four separate crystal oscillators on a line card, each output running at the precise rate the PHY needs without cross-coupling jitter. Independent per-bank supplies (3.3 V/2.5 V/1.8 V/1.5 V) allow the same device to drive an SGMII PHY at 1.8 V LVCMOS while driving a 10G PHY at 2.5 V LVDS, eliminating level translators and reducing board area. Designers should request a custom B-code via ClockBuilder so all four frequencies are factory NVM-locked, ensuring long-term reproducibility across builds.

🖥️

FPGA Reference & Logic Clock Tree

The SI5335C-B-GM is a strong fit for FPGA designs that demand multiple unrelated logic clocks (e.g., 100 MHz for fabric, 156.25 MHz for transceiver refclk, 50 MHz for DDR, 25 MHz for housekeeping). With four MultiSynth fractional outputs and 0 ppm synthesis error per the datasheet, the device provides four jitter-clean clocks from one external crystal, freeing the FPGA's internal PLLs for dynamic on-die reconfiguration. The 24-pin 4x4 mm QFN lands cleanly on a small fanout region close to the FPGA clock pins, minimizing trace length and matching requirements. Designers should verify ClockBuilder frequency selection supports the FPGA's PLL input frequency range before committing to a B-code.

🌐

Telecom Line Card Timing

Telecom line cards frequently need up to four related clocks (BITS reference, TDM bus, Ethernet PHY, and frame pulse) generated from a single Stratum-3/3E input. The SI5335C-B-GM accepts a 2.5-50 MHz reference and produces four independently synthesized outputs up to 350 MHz with per-bank supply flexibility, simplifying mixed LVCMOS and LVPECL fanout. Jitter performance in the low-200 fs range helps the part meet the wander/jitter masks in ITU-T G.813 and G.8261. Industrial temperature grade (the -GM suffix) matches outdoor and central-office thermal environments. Use the ClockBuilder utility to lock all four frequencies into the device NVM before ordering production B-codes.

🖥️

PCIe Gen 2/3 Reference Generation

PCIe Gen 2 (100 MHz HCSL) and Gen 3 (100 MHz HCSL) endpoints and root complexes require 100 MHz HCSL refclk with sub-300 fs RMS jitter typical, and the SI5335C-B-GM's MultiSynth fractional divider cleanly synthesizes 100 MHz from a reference with phase-noise floor that meets PCIe CEM 3.0 jitter budgets per the Skyworks datasheet. Four outputs allow a single SI5335C to clock a PCIe switch plus its downstream endpoints from one device, simplifying BOM and PCB. HCSL output format is factory-selectable per the ClockBuilder B-code, so no external HCSL driver is required. Output-bank supply must be set to 3.3 V for HCSL swing, which is supported on the Si5335C per-bank supply pins.

📺

Broadcast Video & Image Processing

Broadcast video routers, frame synchronizers, and image-processing pipelines often combine several unrelated pixel clocks (e.g., 74.25 MHz 720p, 148.5 MHz 1080p, 27 MHz reference for SD-SDI, and 74.25 MHz for HD-SDI). The SI5335C-B-GM's any-frequency, any-output capability replaces a stack of separate XOs with one factory-programmed clock generator, shrinking layout area and reducing the number of mechanical crystals that need crystal-pull auditing. Per the datasheet, each of the four outputs delivers 0 ppm error and LVCMOS/LVDS drive flexibility, supporting both SDI serializers and CMOS video processors from the same device. Industrial-grade (-GM) operation supports rack and chassis thermal envelopes.

🏭

Industrial Automation & Control

Industrial controllers combine deterministic micro-controller clocks with Ethernet, EtherCAT, or Profinet clocks that need precise but different frequencies. The SI5335C-B-GM delivers four independently synthesized outputs up to 350 MHz from a single reference, which lets engineers consolidate separate oscillators for the MCU, the fieldbus MAC, the supervisory EEPROM, and an Ethernet PHY into a single Skyworks device. Industrial-grade -GM operation from -40 °C to +85 °C (per the family datasheet) supports factory-floor and outdoor cabinet environments. Per the datasheet, the factory-programmed NVM ensures field-deployed units behave identically to bench prototypes, simplifying certification and long-term production control.

What is the SI5335C-B-GM?
The SI5335C-B-GM is a 4-output, any-frequency, any-output clock generator from Skyworks Solutions (formerly Silicon Labs), housed in a 24-pin QFN package. Per the Si5335 datasheet, it synthesizes four non-integer-related frequencies from 1 MHz to 350 MHz using four independent MultiSynth fractional-N divider blocks, and supports any mix of LVPECL, LVDS, HCSL, LVCMOS, or SSTL output formats from a single device.
What is the maximum output frequency of the SI5335C-B-GM?
The SI5335C-B-GM supports output frequencies up to 350 MHz on every one of its four independent outputs. Per the Skyworks Si5335 datasheet, each MultiSynth fractional divider can synthesize 1 MHz to 350 MHz with 0 ppm frequency synthesis error, meaning the four outputs can simultaneously generate widely different unrelated frequencies from a single reference input.
How is the SI5335C-B-GM configured?
The SI5335C-B-GM is a base-number ordering code whose behavior is set by a customer-specific 5-digit code appended to the -B suffix (for example SI5335C-B07520-GM). Per the Skyworks ClockBuilder utility workflow, the B-code encodes all output frequencies, formats, enable polarity, and I²C address into factory NVM; the part ships pre-programmed and has no hardware strapping pins for frequency.
What is the typical phase jitter performance of the SI5335C?
The Si5335C family achieves sub-200 fs RMS phase jitter integrated over 12 kHz to 20 MHz, per the published Skyworks datasheet. This makes the part suitable for high-speed serial reference clocking such as PCIe Gen 2/3, Gigabit Ethernet, and multi-rate telecom where low jitter on the reference directly improves link eye margins and reduces bit-error rate.
Can the SI5335C-B-GM output multiple logic levels simultaneously?
Yes. The Si5335C provides four separate output supply pins accepting 3.3 V, 2.5 V, 1.8 V, or 1.5 V independently. Per the datasheet, this allows one bank to drive LVPECL at 3.3 V while another bank drives LVCMOS at 1.8 V, eliminating level-translator ICs in mixed-voltage FPGA / processor designs.
Where to buy the SI5335C-B-GM online?
The SI5335C-B-GM is available from authorized distributors including Mouser, DigiKey, LCSC Electronics, Richardson RFPD, and Win Source as of 2026-10-10. Pricing scales downward with quantity: at qty 1 around $8.50, qty 100 around $6.20, and qty 1000 around $4.75, per current distributor listings.
What is the lead time for the SI5335C-B-GM?
Lead time for the SI5335C-B-GM (the unprogrammed factory-default B-code) is typically 8-12 weeks as of 2026-10-10 because every order is factory-NVM-programmed. Custom B-code variants such as SI5335C-B07520-GM carry a similar 8-12 week production schedule. Stock at LCSC occasionally includes short-quantity reels of popular B-codes at roughly $2.64 per unit.
Is the SI5335C-B-GM in stock?
Distributor stock for the SI5335C-B-GM is limited as of 2026-10-10 because most inventory available through distribution channels is allocated to populated B-codes such as SI5335C-B08232-GM and SI5335C-B07520-GM. For design-in, request a custom B-code configuration directly through a Skyworks distributor to lock supply.
What is the difference between Si5335A, Si5335B, and Si5335C?
The Si5335A, B, and C variants differ in their output-format capability and frequency range per the Skyworks family datasheet. The Si5335C supports all output formats including SSTL up to 350 MHz and adds 1.5 V output-bank supply support; the Si5335B and A have narrower format coverage or different voltage ranges. All three share the same 24-pin QFN footprint, so a Si5335C is a drop-in upgrade for designs using A or B variants where supply voltages and formats are compatible.
Can an SI5335B replace an SI5335C?
An SI5335B-B-code part is a drop-in physical replacement for an SI5335C-B-code in the same 24-pin QFN footprint, but parametric behavior differs per the family datasheet. The Si5335B has narrower output format support (no SSTL, no 1.5 V output bank) and a different jitter profile. Confirm that your target outputs are within the B variant's format list before substituting.
What is the best drop-in replacement for the SI5335C-B-GM?
For an unconfigured base-number part, the most reliable drop-in replacement is another Si5335C B-code variant such as SI5335C-B07520-GM or SI5335C-B08232-GM, which share the exact same 24-pin QFN footprint, pinout, and electrical interface but carry factory-programmed frequency configurations. Per the datasheet, the B-code is the only programmable variable, so any Si5335C with the same B-code pattern is pin-to-pin compatible.
Where can I download the SI5335C-B-GM datasheet PDF?
The official Skyworks Si5335 datasheet can be downloaded as PDF from https://www.skyworksinc.com/-/media/Skyworks/SL/documents/public/data-sheets/Si5335.pdf. The datasheet is also mirrored on Mouser at https://www.mouser.com/datasheet/2/368/Si5335-1398037.pdf. The part-specific ordering code (B-suffix) does not require a separate datasheet; all share the family datasheet.
Where can I find the SI5335C-B-GM pinout?
The 24-pin QFN pinout is documented on page 4 of the Skyworks Si5335 family datasheet at https://www.skyworksinc.com/-/media/Skyworks/SL/documents/public/data-sheets/Si5335.pdf. Pins 3, 5, 6, 12, and 19 are user-defined; their function is set by ClockBuilder per the selected B-code, so a generic pin-function table is not available without the B-code attached. Skyworks also publishes an XAIPART package diagram for the 24-pin QFN layout.
What is the equivalent Si5335C part from another manufacturer?
A true cross-brand equivalent to the SI5335C-B-GM is not generally available because the Si5335C's flexible any-frequency/any-output architecture and five-pin user-defined configuration are unique to Skyworks' MultiSynth technology. Closest functional competitors such as the Renesas 8V19S880 or TI LMK03328 share only the multi-output clock-generator category. They use a different pinout and BGA/LQFP packages and require PCB rework, which makes them NOT drop-in replacements per the parametric compatibility rules used on this page.
Is the SI5335C-B-GM suitable for industrial temperature applications?
The Si5335C family is offered in industrial temperature grades and the -GM suffix denotes a lead-free, RoHS-compliant industrial-grade package. For specific min/max operating temperature limits, refer to the Skyworks datasheet or request a -GM datasheet excerpt from your distributor. Storage temperature is rated -65 °C to +150 °C per the datasheet. Automotive-grade options such as -A-GM exist in the extended portfolio.

Auswahlhilfe

Choose the SI5335C-B-GM when you need a fully custom four-output clock generator with five user-defined I/O pins and per-bank independent output supplies including 1.5 V support. It is the right choice for designs that span LVCMOS logic at 1.8 V and differential LVPECL/HCSL at 3.3 V from a single device. Choose a populated B-code variant (for example SI5335C-B07520-GM or SI5335C-B08232-GM) when your frequencies are already fixed - the B-code in the part number locks the factory-programmed configuration. Choose the Si5335B family instead when you do not need SSTL or 1.5 V output support and want to use a slightly simpler pin map. Avoid cross-brand clock-generator substitutes for the Si5335C unless you can re-do the PCB; the MultiSynth fractional-N architecture and 24-pin QFN pinout are unique to Skyworks.

Wichtigste Unterscheidungsmerkmale

  • 5 user-defined, ClockBuilder-programmable I/O pins (vs. SI5335B-B10210-GM)
  • Per-bank independent output supply including 1.5 V support (vs. SI5335B-B10210-GM)
  • Full output-format support including SSTL (vs. SI5335B-B10210-GM)

Designhinweise

Use a single solid ground plane under the 24-pin QFN and stitch vias around the perimeter of the exposed pad. Per the Skyworks datasheet, the exposed pad is the primary thermal path and must be soldered to a 4x4 mm copper island with at least 4 thermal vias tying to inner ground layers. Place crystal/reference traces as short and symmetrical as possible to avoid asymmetric duty-cycle distortion at the input. Keep the output traces length-matched to within 5 mm when using differential LVPECL/LVDS/HCSL outputs to preserve skew.

Do not assume the SI5335C-B-GM is pin-strappable. Every Si5335C requires a customer-specific B-code (a 5-digit suffix) generated from the ClockBuilder utility; the part ships with that exact NVM image and is not field-reprogrammable for frequency. Ordering -B-GM without specifying the B-code yields a factory-default NVM image. Also do not drive the user-defined pins (3, 5, 6, 12, 19) until you confirm their function in the B-code configuration - their direction and polarity varies by B-code, per the datasheet.

Estimated: driving the SI5335C with a CMOS reference between 2.5 MHz and 50 MHz yields the cleanest divider math because the MultiSynth fractional engine has the largest σ-delta margin in this band. For differential output banks (LVPECL / LVDS / HCSL), terminate each output with the appropriate network per the Skyworks application note (LVPECL: 150 Ω Thevenin to VDD-2 V; LVDS: 100 Ω differential; HCSL: 33 Ω series to 50 Ω shunt to GND). Receiving ends must preserve the required common-mode voltage; do not AC-couple HCSL outputs that drive PCIe silicon without a DC bias restoration network.
