ADS8372IRHPRG4 Présentation
A SAR (successive-approximation-register) ADC is a sub-category of data converter that performs a binary search through an internal capacitor-DAC array to converge on the input voltage in N clock cycles for N-bit resolution. SAR ADCs are prized for low latency, deterministic throughput, and excellent DC accuracy; in the data-converter taxonomy they sit alongside delta-sigma and pipeline converters as the dominant architectures for precision multi-channel and industrial applications. The ADS8372's fully differential pseudo-bipolar input is targeted at systems that need bipolar signal handling from a single supply.
Differentiating features of the ADS8372IRHPRG4 include the inherent sample-and-hold front-end (no external track-and-hold needed), the high-speed serial SPI/QSPI/MICROWIRE-compatible interface (up to 40 MHz), an industrial-grade temperature range, and the compact QFN-28 footprint with thermal pad for improved heat extraction. The pseudo-bipolar input allows the converter to digitize signals that swing both above and below the common-mode voltage from a single analog supply, simplifying analog front-end design in industrial sensors, motor control, and instrumentation.
At the architecture level, the device pairs a 16-bit capacitor-based SAR core with on-chip reference buffering and a precision input sampling network, giving designers a true 16-bit, no-missing-codes performance at 600 kSPS without external settling tricks. The 1.16 µs conversion time keeps acquisition latency low enough for closed-loop servo systems and multi-MUX data-acquisition front-ends where Nyquist-rate sampling must be deterministic.
Typical applications include industrial process-control data acquisition boards, multi-channel sensor digitizers, motor-control current-sense feedback loops, optical encoder / resolver read channels, and precision instrumentation front-ends. In all of these, the 16-bit resolution and 600 kSPS throughput provide adequate dynamic range for 4-20 mA, ±10 V, and shunt-based current sensing.
When designing with this device, observe the input common-mode voltage requirements of the pseudo-bipolar input stage and decouple the REFP/REFN pins with low-ESR ceramic capacitors placed as close to the package as possible, ideally over the exposed thermal pad for short return paths.

Applications typiques
ADS8372IRHPRG4 convient pour 6 applications: Industrial Process Control Data Acquisition, Multi-Channel Sensor Digitizer Front-End, Motor Control Current Sense Feedback, Optical Encoder / Resolver Signal Readout, Precision Instrumentation Front-Ends, Medical Signal Acquisition Module.
Industrial Process Control Data Acquisition
Process-control front-ends require deterministic Nyquist-rate sampling of 4-20 mA and ±10 V signals without the latency added by sigma-delta modulators. The ADS8372IRHPRG4's 600 kSPS throughput and 1.16 microsecond conversion time let a single ADC service multiple multiplexed analog inputs at high update rates, while the 16-bit resolution preserves adequate dynamic range for control-loop feedback. Fully differential pseudo-bipolar input simplifies common-mode rejection on long sensor cables; the QFN-28 thermal pad efficiently extracts the small local dissipation.
Recommandé
Multi-Channel Sensor Digitizer Front-End
Strain gauge, RTD, and bridge-sensor arrays need high channel density and consistent per-channel latency for synchronized sampling. The ADS8372IRHPRG4's serial SPI/QSPI-compatible interface (up to 40 MHz) allows multiple ADCs to share a single MCU SPI bus with separate CS lines, dramatically increasing channel count per controller. Inherent sample-and-hold eliminates external track-and-hold stages; the industrial -40 to +85 °C range supports outdoor and factory deployments.
Recommandé
Motor Control Current Sense Feedback
Field-oriented control (FOC) of brushless and servo motors requires low-latency current-sense feedback sampled at the PWM carrier frequency. The ADS8372IRHPRG4's 1.16 microsecond conversion time and 600 kSPS throughput easily handle the 10-50 kHz current-loop rates used in servo drives. Fully differential input accepts bipolar currents across a shunt on the DC bus; high common-mode rejection from the differential input prevents switching noise from corrupting the torque loop.
Recommandé
Optical Encoder / Resolver Signal Readout
High-precision rotary encoders, resolver-to-digital converters, and LIDAR time-of-flight readout often quantize analog signals derived from sinusoidal excitation at moderate bandwidths. The ADS8372IRHPRG4 offers 16-bit deterministic conversion of these filtered analog signals, giving repeatable position decoding. Its QFN-28 footprint plus tiny power dissipation makes it a good fit for compact encoder/receiver modules.
Recommandé
Precision Instrumentation Front-Ends
Bench-top multimeters, data loggers, and laboratory digitizers need 16-bit DC accuracy with deterministic latency. The ADS8372IRHPRG4's 600 kSPS throughput and 16-bit SAR architecture provide a true 16-bit no-missing-codes acquisition engine with no conversion-rate dependent noise. Combined with a precision op-amp front-end and a high-accuracy voltage reference, the assembly yields a 6.5-digit-class measurement channel.
Recommandé
Medical Signal Acquisition Module
Patient-monitoring and diagnostic instruments require reliable 16-bit acquisition of ECG, EEG and pulse-oximetry signals in the presence of common-mode noise. The ADS8372IRHPRG4's fully differential pseudo-bipolar input plus 40 MHz serial output enables clear digitization of low-amplitude biopotential signals with strong common-mode rejection. The compact QFN-28 and industrial -40 to +85 °C operating range suit portable patient-worn and bedside equipment.

Notes de conception
The exposed thermal pad on the QFN-28 (RHP) package must be soldered to a copper pour that is stitched to the analog ground plane with multiple vias to provide both thermal dissipation and a clean reference for the differential input. According to the Texas Instruments ADS8372 datasheet, leaving the EP floating will degrade ADC noise performance and can cause conversion drift; the EP also carries the analog ground bond wire, so it must not be left isolated.
Decouple AVDD and DVDD separately with 10 uF X7R ceramic capacitors in parallel with 0.1 uF NP0/C0G ceramics placed as close as possible to the respective supply pins. The digital and analog grounds should be tied together only at one point under the EP, never with separate traces routed to the system ground - this star-grounding topology reduces the digital switching noise that couples into REFP/REFN.
Keep the serial interface traces (CS, SCLK, DOUT, BUSY) short and routed with a ground reference on an adjacent layer to control reflections on the 40 MHz clock edge. When the ADC sits far from the host MCU, add a 33 ohm series resistor near the source of SCLK to damp over/undershoot. DOUT edges are particularly critical because they are the only feedback path that the host uses to determine when to clock out new conversions.
Do not drive the fully differential pseudo-bipolar input with a single-ended source larger than the absolute maximum without a dedicated driver amplifier - the input common-mode voltage must stay within the AVDD-supplied range defined in the ADS8372 datasheet. Avoid routing the analog input pair across long PCB traces with split ground planes; instead route them together as a tightly coupled differential pair above a continuous ground.
Informations de conformité
Industrial ADC product, not AEC-Q100 qualified; automotive customers should evaluate AEC-Q100 equivalent parts in the ADS78xx family. RoHS / REACH status not explicitly shown in the verified web data - G4 suffix typically denotes Pb-free / green per TI suffix convention but should be confirmed from the manufacturer datasheet before designing in.
