Notes de conception
The SAM L11 has multiple power domains: VDD (digital core), VDDIO (I/O rail), and VDDANA (analog). Decouple each VDD pin with a 100 nF ceramic capacitor placed within 3 mm of the pin, plus a bulk 4.7 µF capacitor per rail. For battery applications, route VDDANA through a ferrite bead from VDDIO to isolate analog noise from switching digital I/O. The on-chip voltage regulator (LDO) generates internal core voltage - no external inductor required.
Route the SWDIO and SWCLK traces as a matched-length pair (within 2 mm) to the debug header. Place a 4.7 kΩ pull-up on SWDIO and 4.7 kΩ pull-down on SWCLK to enable reliable debug probe connection. Keep the RESET trace short and place a 10 kΩ pull-up to VDDIO plus a 1 nF capacitor to ground for noise filtering. The 32 kHz crystal traces should be short, symmetric, and surrounded by ground guard ring.
Do not confuse the ATSAML11E15A-AUKPH (Tray packaging) with ATSAML11E15A-AFKPH (Tape & Reel) when ordering - they share identical silicon but different factory packaging. The 32-TQFP-32 package is pin-compatible across the SAM L10 and SAM L11 families, but TrustZone-M features are unavailable on the SAM L10. Verify the BOM matches the security requirements - SAM L10 cannot run TrustZone-M code even if firmware expects it.
Estimated: At maximum 32 MHz operation with all peripherals active, the SAM L11 consumes approximately 25 µA/MHz × 32 MHz = 800 µA active current at 3.3 V, resulting in 2.6 mW power dissipation. The 32-TQFP package has thermal resistance θJA of approximately 65 °C/W (per Microchip package thermal data), giving junction temperature rise of only 0.17 °C above ambient - no thermal management required. However, if used in a sealed enclosure with no airflow at high ambient, verify with a thermocouple measurement.
