LDL212PV33R Présentation
An LDO (Low-Dropout) linear regulator is a type of voltage regulator that maintains a stable output voltage even when the input voltage is very close to the output voltage, dissipating the difference as heat. LDOs sit within the linear regulator category, which in turn belongs to the broader voltage regulator and power management IC family. Unlike switching regulators, LDOs introduce no switching noise into the output rail, which is critical for noise-sensitive analog, RF, and digital loads. The LDL212 product family from STMicroelectronics targets applications requiring high PSRR and low dropout at moderate current levels.
Key features of the LDL212PV33R include an enable logic control function for shutdown, internal current limiting, and thermal protection. The device achieves high power supply rejection ratio of 87 dB at 120 Hz, making it suitable for direct post-regulation following a switching converter, and more than 40 dB at 100 kHz, ensuring clean rails in mixed-signal systems. Its quiescent current is optimized for always-on applications, and the device operates over the industrial -40 °C to +125 °C junction temperature range.
The architecture uses a PNP pass element to achieve the low-dropout characteristic, with an internal bandgap reference and feedback network trimmed at the factory to set the 3.3 V output. This fixed-output configuration eliminates the need for external resistor dividers and reduces BOM cost. The combination of high PSRR across frequency and tight load regulation makes the LDL212PV33R particularly well suited to secondary linear regulation after a DC-DC converter.
Typical applications include point-of-load regulation for microcontrollers, FPGAs, and ASICs in industrial automation, USB-powered devices, IoT sensor nodes, and post-regulation following a buck converter in audio and communication equipment. The 1.2 A capability supports higher-current digital cores while maintaining a clean rail.
When designing with this part, ensure that the input capacitor is placed as close as possible to the IN pin and that the thermal pad is soldered to a sufficient copper pour to keep junction temperature within ratings at maximum dissipation. A 1 µF to 10 µF X7R ceramic output capacitor is recommended for stability.

Applications typiques
LDL212PV33R convient pour 6 applications: Point-of-Load Regulation for Microcontrollers, Post-Regulation After a Buck Converter, USB-Powered Device Rails, Industrial 12 V Bus Regulation, IoT and Sensor Node Power, Audio Codec and DAC Power Supply.
Point-of-Load Regulation for Microcontrollers
The LDL212PV33R provides a clean 3.3 V rail for microcontrollers, FPGAs, and low-power ASICs that require low-noise supply voltages. Its 87 dB PSRR at 120 Hz suppresses residual ripple from upstream switching converters, while the 1.2 A output current supports core plus I/O loads. Placed directly at the IC power pin with 1 µF to 10 µF X7R ceramic input and output capacitors, the regulator keeps the digital supply stable during processor bursts.
Recommandé
Post-Regulation After a Buck Converter
The LDL212PV33R is ideal as a secondary linear regulator following a switching DC-DC converter in mixed-signal systems. The buck converter handles the large VIN-VOUT step-down for efficiency, while the LDL212PV33R cleans up switching ripple with 87 dB PSRR at 120 Hz and >40 dB at 100 kHz. This two-stage architecture is common in audio codecs, RF transceivers, and precision sensor signal chains where any switching noise on the rail would degrade SNR.
Recommandé
USB-Powered Device Rails
The LDL212PV33R accepts a 5 V USB bus directly within its 2.5 V to 18 V input range, providing a regulated 3.3 V rail for USB peripherals, dongles, and embedded modules. The 1.2 A capability supports radio modules, sensors, and small displays simultaneously. With enable control, the device can be put into shutdown for USB suspend compliance, reducing total system current consumption below the USB suspend limit of 2.5 mA.
Recommandé
Industrial 12 V Bus Regulation
Factory automation and process control equipment often use a 12 V or 24 V industrial bus that must be regulated down to 3.3 V for digital logic. The LDL212PV33R's 18 V absolute maximum input makes it suitable for the nominal 12 V bus with headroom for transients, while its 1.2 A output current can supply multiple downstream ICs. The -40 °C to +125 °C junction temperature range supports harsh industrial environments.
Recommandé
IoT and Sensor Node Power
Battery-powered IoT sensor nodes benefit from the LDL212PV33R's enable pin for duty-cycled sleep modes and its high PSRR to clean up ripple from energy-harvesting or wireless-charging front-ends. The 1.2 A peak current supports burst transmissions from radios, while the standby current is minimized when the enable pin is de-asserted. This combination is well matched to LoRa, BLE, and Zigbee node designs.
Recommandé
Audio Codec and DAC Power Supply
Audio codecs and DACs require a very clean supply to preserve dynamic range and signal-to-noise ratio. The LDL212PV33R's 87 dB PSRR at 120 Hz and >40 dB PSRR at 100 kHz ensures the 3.3 V rail is free of switching artifacts. The low-dropout design minimizes the required headroom from a USB or 5 V input, reducing dissipation. A 10 µF X7R ceramic bypass capacitor at the output completes a low-impedance rail for audio stages.

Notes de conception
At VIN = 5 V, VOUT = 3.3 V, and 1.2 A load, estimated power dissipation is (5 - 3.3) × 1.2 = 2.04 W. The 6-DFN 2x2 mm package requires a substantial copper pour on the PCB - the datasheet thermal pad must be soldered to a ground plane of at least 1 square inch to keep junction temperature within the 125 °C rating. Without this copper, the part will quickly enter thermal shutdown at full load.
Place the input capacitor (1 µF to 10 µF X7R) as close as possible to the IN pin and the output capacitor (1 µF to 10 µF X7R) as close as possible to the OUT pin. Use wide, short traces to minimize parasitic inductance. The exposed thermal pad on the bottom of the 6-DFN package must be soldered to a continuous ground copper pour with multiple thermal vias to a bottom-layer ground plane for optimal heat spreading.
Do not exceed the absolute maximum input voltage of 18 V - even brief transients above this level can damage the device. If the source is a 12 V or 24 V industrial bus, add a TVS diode or input RC snubber. Also, do not operate the part without the enable pin properly driven; a floating EN pin can cause unpredictable startup behavior. Tie EN to IN through a 10 kΩ resistor if shutdown is not used.
