LSF0102-Q1 Présentation
A voltage level translator is a logic IC that converts signal voltage levels between circuits operating at different supply rails, sitting within the broader hierarchy of voltage translators -> logic ICs -> interface semiconductors. The LSF family uses a pass-gate (transmission-gate) architecture with reference rails, distinguishing it from powered translator families such as TXS/TXB that use MOSFET output stages.
Key features include up to 100 MHz up translation and greater than 100 MHz down translation with capacitive loads of 30 pF or less; at a 50 pF load the device supports up to 40 MHz in both directions. This bandwidth covers standard automotive interfaces such as I2C, SPI, GPIO, SDIO, UART, and MDIO. AEC-Q100 qualification makes it suitable for automotive environments.
The auto-direction architecture requires no direction-control pin, reducing MCU GPIO overhead and eliminating direction-timing errors. Because the LSF core is a passive pass-gate structure, external pull-up resistors set logic levels on open-drain buses; for push-pull signals, the reference rails Vref_A and Vref_B define the translated levels directly.
Typical applications include automotive infotainment I2C buses between 1.8 V SoCs and 3.3 V peripherals, SPI connections between low-voltage MCUs and 5 V sensors, and SDIO/GPIO interfaces in body electronics and cluster modules.
Design consideration: because the LSF topology needs external pull-up resistors on open-drain nets, size them against total bus capacitance and target rise time; keep capacitive loading at or below 30 pF to exploit the full 100 MHz translation rate.

Applications typiques
LSF0102-Q1 convient pour 6 applications: Automotive Infotainment I2C Buses, SPI Interface Translation, SDIO and eMMC Signaling, UART and MDIO Link Translation, Battery-Powered Portable and IoT Nodes, Body Electronics and GPIO Expansion.
Automotive Infotainment I2C Buses
In infotainment and cluster modules, 1.8 V SoCs frequently communicate over I2C with 3.3 V touch controllers, EEPROMs, and display bridges. The LSF0102-Q1 bridges these rails using its 0.95 V to 5.5 V Vref_A range and 1.8 V to 5.5 V Vref_B range, with external pull-ups defining each side's high level. Its auto bidirectional pass-gate core needs no direction pin, avoiding direction-contention glitches on multi-master I2C. AEC-Q100 qualification and 5-V tolerant inputs add robustness for the 12 V automotive environment, and two channels cover SDA and SCL in one VSSOP-8 footprint.
Recommandé
SPI Interface Translation
SPI runs push-pull at tens of MHz, and the LSF0102-Q1 supports up to 100 MHz up translation and greater than 100 MHz down translation with 30 pF or less loading, which is ample headroom for SPI clocks of 25 to 50 MHz in automotive sensor and display links. Keep traces short and total node capacitance below 30 pF to preserve edge rates; at 50 pF the rated ceiling drops to 40 MHz. Its low 0.95 V minimum Vref_A supports translation from 1.2 V MCU banks to 3.3 V or 5 V peripherals such as flash memories and ADCs without direction control on the four-wire bus.
Recommandé
SDIO and eMMC Signaling
SDIO controllers commonly run 1.8 V signaling while legacy cards or peripherals use 3.3 V. The LSF0102-Q1 handles this translation at rates up to 40 MHz at 50 pF load and 100 MHz at 30 pF, covering high-speed SDIO clock rates when bus capacitance is managed. Its auto direction operation suits the bidirectional CMD and D0-D1 lines, while push-pull capability covers clock lines. In automotive telematics and gateways, the AEC-Q100 grade plus 5-V tolerant data inputs protect against transients during hot-plug and voltage-ramp events on the card interface.
Recommandé
UART and MDIO Link Translation
MDIO management buses in automotive Ethernet PHYs and UART links between mixed-rail processors need simple, low-channel-count translation. The LSF0102-Q1's two channels map naturally to MDIO/MDC control pairs or UART TX/RX, with auto bidirectionality eliminating direction-pin firmware on the half-duplex MDIO. Signal rates are modest for these protocols, so the device operates far below its 100 MHz capability at 30 pF, giving generous timing margin. Wide 0.95 V to 5.5 V operation supports translation between 1.2 V digital cores, 1.8 V PHYs, and 3.3 V or 5 V management domains.
Recommandé
Battery-Powered Portable and IoT Nodes
Portable and IoT designs often mix a 1.2 V or 1.8 V low-power MCU domain with 3.3 V sensor peripherals. The LSF0102-Q1's 0.95 V minimum Vref_A supports the lowest logic rails, and its passive pass-gate core contributes minimal overhead compared with powered translator families. Two channels in a compact VSSOP-8 save board area in wearables and sensor nodes. Designers should add pull-up resistors sized to bus capacitance; for low-current budgets, higher-value pull-ups trade rise time for lower static current on open-drain buses like I2C.
Recommandé
Body Electronics and GPIO Expansion
Body-control modules connect low-voltage MCUs to 5 V loads, switches, and legacy GPIO devices. The LSF0102-Q1 translates GPIO between rails from 0.95 V to 5.5 V with 5-V tolerant inputs, surviving mis-wiring and transient events common in vehicle harness environments. AEC-Q100 qualification supports these under-hood and cabin applications. Because GPIO is typically push-pull at low frequency, the passive core adds negligible propagation delay; pair each channel with appropriate pull-ups when driving open-drain outputs such as interrupt lines or one-wire status signals.

Notes de conception
The LSF core's rated speed depends directly on load: 100 MHz up and >100 MHz down at <= 30 pF, dropping to 40 MHz at 50 pF. Keep I2C/SPI stubs short, use series damping resistors (22 to 33 ohm) on fast SPI clocks, and count trace, pin, and pull-up capacitance against the 30 pF budget to stay in the fast region.
Size external pull-up resistors on open-drain buses against rise time and current: smaller values give faster edges on capacitive buses but increase static current when the line is low. Reference each side to its own rail via Vref_A (0.95 V to 5.5 V) and Vref_B (1.8 V to 5.5 V); never drive A-side inputs above 5 V.
Do not confuse LSF with TXS families: LSF0102-Q1 needs external pull-ups and supports low 0.95 V/1.2 V rails, while TXS0102-Q1 integrates pull-ups but does not accept the same very-low A-side rails. Migrating between them is NOT a drop-in change electrically even in the same DCU package - re-verify pull-ups and logic thresholds.
