LTC2265IUJ-14 Présentation
A pipelined ADC is a high-speed converter architecture that uses multiple cascaded low-resolution flash stages to digitize an analog signal at sample rates far higher than successive-approximation designs. The LTC2265IUJ-14 sits within the broader hierarchy: ADC -> data converter -> signal chain IC -> semiconductor. It uses serial LVDS digital outputs to minimize the number of data lines on the PCB, supporting both 2-lane (two bits per channel per clock) and 1-lane (one bit per channel per clock) modes.
Key features include DC specifications of typical 1LSB INL, typical 0.3LSB DNL, no missing codes over temperature, and a low 1.2 LSB RMS transition noise. The serial LVDS interface reduces pin count, easing PCB routing in dense multi-channel systems. Each channel can be independently enabled, allowing power saving in single-channel applications.
Typical applications include cellular base-station IF digitizers, software-defined radios, multichannel industrial instrumentation, medical imaging front ends, and any system that requires two simultaneously-sampled analog channels at moderate sample rates. The 40-QFN exposed pad provides a low thermal resistance path to the PCB.
When designing with this part, allocate adequate PCB copper area beneath the exposed pad for thermal dissipation. The serial LVDS outputs require careful PCB impedance control (typically 100 ohm differential) and matched trace lengths to maintain data valid timing.

Applications typiques
LTC2265IUJ-14 convient pour 6 applications: Cellular Base Station IF Digitizing, Software Defined Radio (SDR), Multichannel Industrial Data Acquisition, Medical Imaging Front End, Communications Test Equipment, Radar and Lidar Signal Capture.
Cellular Base Station IF Digitizing
The LTC2265IUJ-14's 14-bit resolution and 65 Msps sample rate make it well-suited for digitizing intermediate-frequency (IF) signals in cellular base-station receivers. Per the Analog Devices datasheet, the dual-channel architecture allows simultaneous sampling of I and Q baseband or IF paths, halving the component count versus using two separate ADCs. Its 1.2 LSB RMS transition noise and 1 LSB INL preserve signal integrity for downstream digital demodulation. The serial LVDS outputs minimize PCB trace congestion in dense base-station designs.
Recommandé
Software Defined Radio (SDR)
The LTC2265IUJ-14 fits SDR receivers that digitize IF or wideband baseband signals. Its 65 Msps rate supports IF bandwidths in the tens of MHz, while 14-bit dynamic range delivers sufficient SNR for demodulation of QAM, OFDM, and other complex modulation schemes. The dual-channel capability simplifies direct-conversion I/Q sampling architectures. Per the datasheet, the serial LVDS interface reduces EMI emissions - critical in sensitive RF environments where switching noise can desensitize adjacent receiver channels.
Recommandé
Multichannel Industrial Data Acquisition
Industrial data-acquisition systems needing simultaneous multi-channel sampling benefit from the LTC2265IUJ-14's dual 14-bit channels. Per the datasheet, both channels sample synchronously, preserving phase relationships between transducer signals - critical for vibration analysis, acoustic emission monitoring, and power-line monitoring. The industrial -40C to +85C temperature grade supports factory-floor and outdoor cabinet deployment. The 40-QFN exposed pad provides robust thermal performance in sealed enclosures with limited airflow.
Recommandé
Medical Imaging Front End
Ultrasound and other medical imaging front ends use the LTC2265IUJ-14 to digitize multi-element transducer arrays. The dual-channel simultaneous sampling matches the typical phased-array architecture where two channels per beamformer IC are common. Its 14-bit resolution and 65 Msps provide adequate dynamic range and bandwidth for ultrasound echo digitization. The serial LVDS interface keeps PCB traces low, helping meet medical EMI/EMC compliance. Per the datasheet, no missing codes over temperature preserves image fidelity across the operating range.
Recommandé
Communications Test Equipment
Test and measurement instruments that analyze modulated signals use the LTC2265IUJ-14 as a digitizer front end. Its 14-bit linearity and 65 Msps rate enable vector signal analyzers, spectrum analyzers, and arbitrary waveform digitizers to capture wide-bandwidth modulated carriers. The dual channels support I/Q signal capture for complex demodulation analysis. Per the datasheet, the low transition noise floor of 1.2 LSB RMS preserves measurement accuracy, and the serial LVDS outputs simplify high-speed board routing.
Recommandé
Radar and Lidar Signal Capture
Phased-array radar and lidar systems use the LTC2265IUJ-14 to digitize multiple receiver channels in parallel. The dual simultaneous-sampling architecture matches typical dual-channel per-element signal chains, and the 65 Msps rate suits short- to medium-range radar IF bandwidths. The 14-bit dynamic range preserves target discrimination in cluttered environments. Per the datasheet, the serial LVDS outputs reduce PCB layer count and crosstalk - essential when routing many parallel channels across a dense antenna-board layout.

Notes de conception
Solder the exposed pad (EP) of the 40-QFN package to a continuous PCB thermal land connected to the analog ground plane. Use multiple thermal vias under the EP to conduct heat into internal ground planes. Per the Analog Devices LTC2265-14 datasheet, most of the heat generated by the IC is transferred from the die through the bottom-side EP and package leads onto the PCB. Inadequate EP soldering will significantly increase junction temperature and may damage the part.
Route the serial LVDS output pairs (OUTA1+/-, OUTA2+/-, OUTB1+/-, OUTB2+/-, FRAME+/-, CLKOUT+/-) as 100 ohm differential transmission lines with matched trace lengths. Place a 100 ohm termination resistor across each LVDS pair near the receiver. Per the datasheet, mismatched lengths cause skew that violates the data valid window. Keep LVDS traces away from noisy digital switching lines and the analog input traces to minimize crosstalk.
Decouple each analog supply pin (AVDD) with a 0.1 uF ceramic capacitor placed within 2 mm of the pin, and add a 10 uF bulk tantalum or ceramic capacitor near the IC. Similarly decouple the output driver supply (OVDD) and digital supply (VDD) separately to prevent digital switching noise from coupling into the analog inputs. Per the datasheet, low-noise LDOs (such as the LT1763 or LT3042) are recommended for AVDD to achieve the rated SNR performance.
Drive the CLK+ and CLK- differential clock inputs with a low-jitter, low-phase-noise source such as a dedicated clock generator IC or a clean crystal oscillator through a balun or LVDS driver. Per the datasheet, clock jitter directly degrades the SNR of the ADC at high input frequencies. Typical clock sources for the LTC2265IUJ-14 include 65 MHz crystal oscillators with 1 ps RMS jitter or better.
Do not exceed the absolute maximum analog input voltage specified in the datasheet - the LTC2265IUJ-14 inputs are sensitive to over-voltage and ESD. Add external clamping diodes or TVS arrays on each analog input for protection in harsh environments. Always use the SENSE pin and VREF bypass capacitor as shown in the datasheet typical application circuit - omitting them will degrade DC accuracy and noise performance.
