LTC3630AMPDHC#PBF Présentation
Key specifications include 500 mA continuous output current, internal high-side and synchronous switches that eliminate the external Schottky diode, Burst Mode operation for high efficiency at light loads, and an internal feedback comparator output that allows multiple LTC3630A units to be paralleled for higher current rails. The 12 µA quiescent current makes it particularly suited to always-on applications that must conserve standby energy, while the 76 V input withstand gives significant headroom for 48 V telecom rails, 24 V industrial buses, and transient-prone automotive load-dump environments.
The architecture uses a constant-frequency current-mode control loop with a precision reference and programmable or fixed internal feedback divider; the exposed die-attach pad (DFN-EP) provides a low thermal resistance path from the junction to the PCB copper, allowing sustained 500 mA output in the small DFN-16 outline. The DHC suffix indicates the 5 mm x 3 mm DFN-16 with EP, while the 'MP' prefix designates the military plastic grade with -55°C to +150°C TJ range, distinguishing it from the standard LTC3630AHDHC#PBF which is rated to -40°C to +125°C.
Typical applications include 48 V telecom point-of-load conversion, 24 V industrial sensor and actuator supplies, automotive body and chassis electronics surviving load-dump transients, battery-powered metering and remote-sensor nodes with low standby budgets, distributed low-voltage rails in factory automation, and as a post-regulator following an isolated front-end supply. The 76 V input is wide enough to absorb inductive transients without a TVS clamp in many cases.
When designing with this device, place the input capacitor as close as possible to the VIN and PGND pins to minimize switching-node parasitic inductance; the exposed pad must be soldered to a continuous ground copper plane that doubles as a thermal sink. Carefully evaluate output-ripple, inductor selection (typically 47 µH to 100 µH), and feedforward-cap placement per the manufacturer datasheet typical application circuit to avoid sub-harmonic instability or unexpected Burst Mode hysteresis.

Applications typiques
LTC3630AMPDHC#PBF convient pour 7 applications: 48V Telecom Point-of-Load Conversion, 24V Industrial Sensor and Actuator Power, Automotive Body and Chassis Electronics, Battery-Powered Remote Sensor Nodes, Distributed Low-Voltage Rails in Factory Automation, Isolated Front-End Post-Regulator, Always-On Industrial Gateway Power.
48V Telecom Point-of-Load Conversion
The LTC3630AMPDHC#PBF's 4V to 76V input range directly accepts the telecom 48V nominal rail including +/-20% tolerance and transient excursions, eliminating the need for a preregulator. Its 500mA output and 12uA no-load quiescent current deliver efficient point-of-load conversion for line cards and Base Band Units where standby losses accumulate across thousands of cards; the DHC DFN-16 footprint provides the thermal headroom needed for sustained operation on a compact PCB.
Recommandé
24V Industrial Sensor and Actuator Power
Industrial 24V buses often see large inductive transients from motors and solenoids; the LTC3630AMPDHC#PBF's 76V transient-tolerant VIN withstands these surges without an external TVS clamp, simplifying the protection chain. With 500mA output and adjustable 0.8V to VIN range it powers 24V-to-5V/3.3V rails for PLC I/O modules, motor-control feedback circuits, and industrial sensor nodes; the MP-grade -55C to +150C TJ range supports outdoor and cabinet-mounted installations.
Recommandé
Automotive Body and Chassis Electronics
Automotive 12V/24V systems must survive load-dump transients up to ~40V to ~80V, and the LTC3630AMPDHC#PBF's 76V input margin meets this requirement directly. With 500mA output capability it comfortably powers body-control modules, lighting controllers, HVAC actuators, and sensor clusters; the 12uA quiescent current keeps quiescent drain below automotive parasitic-loss budgets on parked vehicles. The DHC DFN-EP package gives low thermal resistance for under-hood or behind-dashboard mounting.
Recommandé
Battery-Powered Remote Sensor Nodes
Remote wireless sensor nodes running from 12V/24V batteries or from energy harvesters need a standby-friendly regulator that does not drain the source when the radio is asleep. The LTC3630AMPDHC#PBF's 12uA Burst Mode quiescent current and 76V input tolerance make it ideal for solar-powered sensor hubs that see wide VIN variation under different illumination; the 500mA output handles peak transmit bursts while keeping standby consumption minimal. The 16-pin DFN-EP footprint fits compact IP67 enclosures.
Recommandé
Distributed Low-Voltage Rails in Factory Automation
Factory-automation backplanes often distribute 24V or 48V DC and need local step-down to 5V, 3.3V, or 1.8V at each I/O island. The LTC3630AMPDHC#PBF's 76V input tolerance and 500mA output support multiple distributed nodes from a single high-voltage bus, reducing wire gauge and conversion stages. Its Burst Mode operation minimizes heat dissipation in densely packed PLC racks, while the 16-pin DFN-EP keeps the local regulator footprint small enough to fit near each isolated I/O cluster.
Recommandé
Isolated Front-End Post-Regulator
Following an isolated DC-DC front end (e.g. a flyback or push-pull converter providing safety isolation), the LTC3630AMPDHC#PBF can serve as a non-isolated post-regulator to provide a clean, tightly regulated 5V or 3.3V rail for downstream analog and digital circuitry. Its wide 4V-76V input tolerates the loosely regulated output of the front-end converter, while Burst Mode operation and 12uA Iq maintain efficiency even when the downstream load is sleeping. The DHC DFN-EP footprint simplifies PCB layout.
Recommandé
Always-On Industrial Gateway Power
Industrial gateways and edge controllers must remain powered continuously from a 12V/48V supply to handle background telemetry, scheduling, and security functions. The LTC3630AMPDHC#PBF's 12uA no-load quiescent current keeps standby draw on the always-on rail below milliwatts, while its 76V input withstands large transient excursions on long cable runs. The 500mA output is sufficient for the always-on MCU and radio companion, and the DHC DFN-EP footprint supports compact fanless enclosures.

Notes de conception
The 16-pin DHC DFN-EP package achieves its rated 500 mA output by sinking heat through the exposed die-attach pad into the PCB ground plane. Estimated: at VIN=24V, VOUT=5V, 500 mA load, the LTC3630AMPDHC#PBF dissipates approximately 9.5 W; this exceeds the rated thermal envelope for sustained operation at 25 °C ambient. For continuous 500 mA load at high VIN, lay out at least 2 to 4 square inches of continuous top-and-bottom-layer copper tied to the exposed pad and PGND pins. Above ~7 W dissipation, derate output current by ~2.5 % per °C above 70 °C ambient, or choose the wider 16-pin MSE package variant which has a larger thermal footprint.
Place the input bypass capacitor as close as possible to the VIN and PGND pins (pins 1/2 and 11/12), and the BST flying capacitor as close as possible to the BST and SW pins (5 and 3/4). Use wide copper pours on both top and inner layers to carry the high-frequency switching currents from the SW node to the external inductor; keep the SW copper area small to minimize radiated EMI. The exposed pad MUST be soldered to a continuous ground copper pour for both thermal dissipation and electrical ground reference - dry or insufficiently soldered EP is the most common cause of thermal failure on this package family.
Do not exceed 76 V on VIN, even transiently - although the LTC3630A family is rated to survive 76 V, sustained operation above this rating will damage the internal high-side switch. Ensure the inductor chosen is rated for the peak saturation current at minimum VIN (typically 750 mA peak for a 500 mA nominal design). When using Burst Mode, place the feedforward capacitor (where applicable) per the datasheet reference design - omitting or mis-sizing this component can cause sub-harmonic oscillation or unexpected Burst Mode hysteresis. Lastly, for the adjustable (VOUT-ADJ) version, use 1% tolerance feedback resistors and keep the FB trace short and away from the SW node to avoid noise coupling that will appear on the regulated output.
Keep the loop formed by VIN, the internal high-side switch, the inductor, and PGND as small and tight as possible - this is the primary high-frequency switching loop and minimizing its area dramatically reduces EMI and improves efficiency. Similarly, the loop formed by the internal synchronous switch, the inductor, and PGND must be tight. The analog ground (AGND, pin 13) should be tied to PGND at a single point near the exposed pad, and the FB/ITH trace should be routed away from the SW node. Decouple VC (pin 9) with a 100 nF ceramic capacitor placed as close as possible to the pin.
