MPX5700A Présentation
A piezoresistive pressure sensor is a transducer that converts an applied pressure into a proportional electrical signal by exploiting the piezoresistive effect in doped silicon strain gauges diffused into a monolithic diaphragm. Pressure sensors sit in the transducer hierarchy between MEMS sensors and signal-conditioning ICs, and the MPX5700A integrates both the MEMS die and the analog signal chain on-chip, eliminating the need for an external compensation network.
Key features include a sensitivity of 6.4 mV/kPa, ±2.5% maximum pressure error over 0 to 85 °C, single 5.0 V (4.75 V to 5.25 V) supply operation, ratiometric analog output, and robust ESD/latch-up protection. The integrated temperature compensation and calibration deliver a turnkey analog output suitable for direct connection to a microcontroller ADC input. The sensor is targeted at cost-sensitive embedded designs where a calibrated analog front-end replaces discrete instrumentation.
The architecture combines advanced micromachining, thin-film metallization, and bipolar semiconductor processing to produce a single-element transducer. The patented silicon strain-gauge bridge is laser-trimmed for offset and span, then actively temperature-compensated on-chip, achieving system-level accuracy that would otherwise require external op-amp networks and look-up tables.
Typical applications include engine control manifold absolute pressure (MAP) sensing, HVAC blower monitoring, altimeters and barometric instruments, weather stations, medical respiratory equipment, and industrial process monitoring. The 0-5 V output interfaces directly with most MCU ADC channels, simplifying firmware design.
When designing with this part, ensure the supply is well decoupled with a local 100 nF ceramic capacitor and that the analog output trace is kept short and guarded from switching noise. The port must be connected to a dry non-corrosive gas; liquid or particle ingress can damage the MEMS die.

Applications typiques
MPX5700A convient pour 7 applications: Engine Manifold Absolute Pressure (MAP) Sensing, Barometric Altimeter / Weather Station, HVAC Blower and Duct Pressure Monitoring, Medical Respiratory and CPAP Pressure Monitoring, Industrial Process Control and Tank Level Sensing, Drone Altitude Hold and Flight Control, Appliance Water-Pump Inlet Pressure Sensing.
Engine Manifold Absolute Pressure (MAP) Sensing
The MPX5700A covers 15-700 kPa absolute, easily accommodating naturally aspirated manifold pressures (typically 30-100 kPa) and forced-induction boost (up to 250 kPa) with the 0.2-4.7 V analog output. The 6.4 mV/kPa sensitivity gives roughly 6 mV per 1 kPa, which a 10-bit automotive ADC resolves to about 1.7 kPa per LSB. Designed for dry non-corrosive intake air, the sensor connects directly to the ECU ADC, eliminating an external op-amp stage.
Recommandé
Barometric Altimeter / Weather Station
With 15-700 kPa absolute coverage the MPX5700A spans sea-level barometric (101 kPa) to high-altitude pressures (below 30 kPa at 9000 m), all from a single 5 V supply. The 6.4 mV/kPa sensitivity yields about 41 mV per meter of altitude near sea level when paired with a 12-bit ADC. The ratiometric output tracks supply drift, simplifying battery-powered weather stations where the LDO may shift with temperature.
Recommandé
HVAC Blower and Duct Pressure Monitoring
HVAC duct static pressure typically spans 0-500 Pa (0-5 kPa gauge), but absolute sensing is needed for energy-recovery ventilator (ERV) cores and filter-clog alarms. The MPX5700A handles absolute reference while 6.4 mV/kPa sensitivity resolves 6.4 mV per 100 Pa, well above typical 12-bit ADC noise floors. The -40 to +125 °C operating range covers rooftop AHU enclosures where commercial-grade sensors often fail.
Recommandé
Medical Respiratory and CPAP Pressure Monitoring
CPAP/BiPAP machines generate 4-20 cmH2O (0.4-2 kPa gauge) mask pressure, while ventilator barometric compensation needs absolute sensing up to 110 kPa. The MPX5700A's 15-700 kPa absolute range supports both limbs of this pressure profile from one part. The ±2.5% accuracy over 0-85 °C covers body-temperature airflow in humidifier chambers without re-calibration.
Recommandé
Industrial Process Control and Tank Level Sensing
Closed-vessel gas-pressure monitoring (1-10 bar absolute) is well within the MPX5700A's 700 kPa ceiling, and the 6.4 mV/kPa sensitivity supports tight process-control loops. The 5 V single-supply operation interfaces directly with industrial 4-20 mA loop transmitters powered from 24 V via a local LDO. The on-chip calibration eliminates monthly re-zeroing that discrete strain-gauge bridges require.
Recommandé
Drone Altitude Hold and Flight Control
Multirotor flight controllers use barometric pressure for altitude hold, and the MPX5700A's 6.4 mV/kPa sensitivity resolves roughly 0.2 m of altitude when oversampled at 50 Hz. With 15-700 kPa coverage, the sensor supports launches from sea level to alpine airfields without re-zeroing. The 6-SIP through-hole package absorbs drone vibration better than small SMD pressure parts, reducing measurement noise on hard landings.
Recommandé
Appliance Water-Pump Inlet Pressure Sensing
Dishwasher and washing-machine inlet pressures are typically 50-400 kPa absolute, well inside the MPX5700A envelope. The 6.4 mV/kPa sensitivity at 5 V supply gives 1.6 V signal swing across the operating range, easy for the appliance MCU's 10-bit ADC. The -40 to +125 °C operating range survives under-cabinet thermal cycling in unventilated laundry closets.

Notes de conception
The MPX5700A requires a clean 5.0 V supply in the 4.75 V to 5.25 V window. Place a 100 nF ceramic decoupling capacitor as close as possible to the VCC pin (pin 1) and a 10 µF bulk capacitor on the supply rail. Because the output is ratiometric, powering the sensor from the same LDO that supplies the MCU ADC reference eliminates supply-noise induced reading errors; switching converter noise above 50 mVpp will appear directly on the analog output.
Keep the analog VOUT trace short and routed away from switching converter nodes, motor drive traces, and clock lines. Add a ground guard ring around the VOUT pin and use a star-ground topology that ties the sensor GND (pin 2) back to the analog ground plane near the ADC reference. Avoid running VOUT parallel to digital signals for more than 5 mm; even with internal ADMS, capacitive coupling of 5 pF at 1 MHz switch edges can inject 25 mV of noise onto the 6.4 mV/kPa signal.
Do not expose the pressure port to liquid, corrosive gases, or particulate-laden air; the MEMS die is exposed to the port and contamination is non-recoverable. Do not solder-clean the sensor with ultrasonic agitation or water-based flux removers; use no-clean flux and a low-residue cleaning process. Do not apply mechanical force to the port during assembly; torque-limiting fixturing below 0.5 N·m prevents diaphragm fracture. Do not exceed the maximum overpressure rating, which is documented in the datasheet but not extracted in the verified web data above.
For best ADC resolution, oversample the analog output at 100 Hz or higher and apply a 4-tap moving-average filter in firmware. The 6.4 mV/kPa sensitivity gives 0.64 mV/Pa, which a 12-bit ADC at 5 V reference resolves to 1.7 Pa per LSB — adequate for HVAC and barometric applications. For higher-precision measurements (e.g. altimetry below 1 meter), use a 16-bit ADC with the sensor powered from the same low-noise reference.
