MPXV7002DP Présentation
A differential pressure sensor is a transducer that converts a pressure difference between two ports into a proportional analog voltage, enabling measurement of flow, level, altitude, or velocity. In the broader sensor taxonomy, the MPXV7002DP sits under: pressure sensor -> MEMS sensor -> piezoresistive transducer -> sensor IC. Differential variants contrast with gauge sensors (which measure against atmosphere) and absolute sensors (which measure against vacuum). The MPXV7002DP's small differential range and integrated signal conditioning make it ideal for low-pressure fluid and air systems.
Key specifications include a typical full-scale output span of 0.5 V to 4.5 V at 5 V supply (5% transfer function), 1.0 ms response time, temperature compensation across 0C to 85C, and on-chip signal conditioning. The output is ratiometric to supply voltage, allowing direct interface with 5 V ADCs without precision references. The dual-port same-side configuration supports clean pneumatic plumbing with standard 3.3 mm tubes.
Architecture-wise, the sensor uses four piezoresistors in a Wheatstone bridge micromachined into the silicon die; deformation of the diaphragm under differential pressure unbalances the bridge, producing a differential voltage proportional to applied pressure. On-chip CMOS circuitry amplifies, temperature-compensates, and calibrates this signal, delivering a buffered output of approximately 1 V at -2 kPa and 4 V at +2 kPa with 5 V excitation.
Typical applications include HVAC variable-air-volume (VAV) control, drone/UAV pitot-tube airspeed measurement, medical respiratory flow monitoring, and industrial process flow sensing. In each case the differential topology enables bidirectional flow measurement across fans, blowers, orifices, and pitot probes.
A key design consideration is pneumatic port orientation and moisture protection. Because the dual ports are side-by-side and share the package edge, condensation or contamination can affect accuracy. Many designers add sintered bronze filters or hydrophobic membranes at the tubing interface for robustness.

Applications typiques
MPXV7002DP convient pour 7 applications: HVAC Variable Air Volume (VAV) Control, Drone / UAV Airspeed Measurement, Medical Respiratory Flow Monitoring, Industrial Process Flow Sensing, Portable Gas Flow / Leak Detectors, Cleanroom / Fume Hood Face Velocity Monitoring, Computer / Server Cooling Airflow Monitoring.
HVAC Variable Air Volume (VAV) Control
The MPXV7002DP is widely deployed in HVAC variable-air-volume (VAV) damper feedback loops, where it measures the differential pressure across a Venturi or orifice plate to estimate airflow in a duct. Its ±2 kPa range aligns with the typical 0-250 Pa duct pressure differentials used in commercial zone control, while the 0.5 V to 4.5 V ratiometric output interfaces directly with 5 V microcontroller ADCs from Building Automation Systems (BAS) controllers. Unlike hot-wire anemometers, the MPXV7002DP adds no thermal dissipation to the airstream and is unaffected by dust accumulation over years of service, making it a low-maintenance choice for commercial buildings.
Recommandé
Drone / UAV Airspeed Measurement
The MPXV7002DP is the de facto pressure sensor for hobbyist and small commercial drones using a pitot tube for airspeed sensing. With a typical stall-speed dynamic pressure of approximately 0.05 kPa to 0.5 kPa and cruise pressures around 1 kPa, the ±2 kPa range provides generous headroom for fixed-wing UAV flight envelopes from slow-landing quad-planes to fast cruise aircraft. The 1 ms response time is adequate for the 10-50 Hz update rates of typical flight controllers (ArduPilot, PX4, INAV), and the dual horizontal port configuration mates cleanly with 3.3 mm silicone tubing without kinking or leaks at high angles of attack.
Recommandé
Medical Respiratory Flow Monitoring
In CPAP/BiPAP machines, ventilators, and spirometers, the MPXV7002DP measures the differential pressure across a flow-restriction element (Fleisch pneumotach or differential orifice) to derive patient airflow. Its ±2 kPa range covers normal tidal breathing flows up to approximately 600 L/min through standard pneumotach geometries, while the 1 ms response enables real-time breath-cycle detection in synchronous ventilation modes. The on-chip temperature compensation from 0C to 85C is critical for medical equipment that warms up during operation. Designers must add bacterial filters upstream to protect the sensor from contamination.
Recommandé
Industrial Process Flow Sensing
The MPXV7002DP provides clean dry-air flow measurement in industrial process control, including filter status monitoring (delta-P across a filter element), leak detection in sealed enclosures, and combustion airflow in small boilers. Its 8-BSOP surface-mount package supports reflow assembly on multi-layer control boards, while the dual-port design simplifies plumbing in DIN-rail mounted instruments. The ±5% transfer function accuracy is sufficient for trend monitoring and threshold alarms typical of plant-floor applications, where absolute accuracy is less important than repeatability and stability over years of operation.
Recommandé
Portable Gas Flow / Leak Detectors
Battery-powered handheld gas-flow sniffers and leak detectors use the MPXV7002DP to measure small pressure differentials in pipes and fittings, identifying leaks before they become failures. Its 5 V supply and approximately 5 mA current draw (typical) fit comfortably in portable designs powered by 4xAA cells or lithium packs with boost regulators, and the small 8-BSOP package enables pen-style form factors. The 0.5 V to 4.5 V output span gives plenty of dynamic range to discriminate slow leaks (<0.1 kPa/h drift) from catastrophic ruptures, with optional logarithmic amplification for higher sensitivity in noisy field environments.
Recommandé
Cleanroom / Fume Hood Face Velocity Monitoring
Laboratory fume hoods and cleanroom ventilation systems use the MPXV7002DP to monitor face velocity (typically 0.4-0.6 m/s, corresponding to 0.05-0.15 kPa differential at standard hood geometries), ensuring operator safety against chemical exposure. The analog output integrates with Building Management Systems (BMS) via 4-20 mA converters or directly with PLC analog inputs for alarm generation when face velocity falls outside specification. The on-chip calibration eliminates the field-calibration step typical of raw differential pressure cells, reducing commissioning labor in multi-hood facilities where dozens of sensors are deployed.
Recommandé
Computer / Server Cooling Airflow Monitoring
Datacenter server racks deploy the MPXV7002DP inside rack-mounted airflow monitors to verify that cooling fans are delivering the design volumetric flow at each U-position, flagging hot spots before equipment overheats. With server fans producing 0.1-1 kPa differential pressure under normal operation, the ±2 kPa range covers a wide range of fan geometries from small 40 mm case fans to large 200 mm rack fans. The MPXV7002DP's surface-mount 8-BSOP package fits on small PCB assemblies within 1U rack monitor modules, and the ratiometric output eliminates the need for precision analog references in multi-channel monitoring cards.

Notes de conception
Do not allow liquid water or condensate to enter the pneumatic ports. The silicon die is exposed to the air column at the port, and water ingress will damage the sensor. In humid applications (medical respiratory, outdoor HVAC), install hydrophobic membranes or sintered bronze filters at the tubing inlet, and orient the ports downward to drain condensation. Always perform a leak-check on pneumatic plumbing before powering the sensor, as back-pressure from a blocked port will offset the zero-pressure output beyond the calibration range.
Place a 100 nF decoupling capacitor as close as possible to pin 2 (VCC) to suppress supply noise; a 1 uF tantalum bulk capacitor can be added if the supply traces are long. Route the analog VOUT trace (pin 3) away from digital switching lines and high-current traces to avoid coupling. The 8-BSOP exposed pad area beneath the package should remain clear of traces if possible, as the package relies on the surrounding copper pour for thermal stability of the calibration. Avoid placing the sensor directly above heat-generating components that could introduce thermal gradients across the die.
When designing the host PCB, leave clearance around the pneumatic ports on the package edge so that 3.3 mm silicone tubing can be slipped over the male ports without interference from adjacent components or the PCB edge. Recommended clearance is at least 5 mm horizontally and 8 mm vertically. If the sensor is mounted near a board edge, ensure the tubing bend radius is not less than 10 mm to avoid kinking. For vibration-prone environments (drone, automotive), add a small dab of silicone RTV at the tubing-port joint to prevent disconnection.
Although the MPXV7002DP output is calibrated and buffered, the analog signal can be contaminated by EMI from nearby switching converters or motor drivers. For noisy environments, add a first-order RC low-pass filter at the ADC input with a cutoff of 1-10 kHz (R = 10 kohm, C = 10 nF typical) to limit noise bandwidth. A unity-gain buffer op-amp (e.g., TLV9064 or MCP6001) between the sensor output and the ADC can drive long cables without loading the sensor's output stage, which has finite drive strength.
The MPXV7002DP requires a clean 5 V supply within the 4.75 V to 5.25 V range; if powered from a switching regulator, add a pi-filter (LC) at the sensor supply input to attenuate switching ripple below 10 mVpp. The output is ratiometric, meaning a 4.75 V supply produces a 0.475 V to 4.275 V output span rather than 0.5 V to 4.5 V; ensure the ADC reference is also ratiometric (e.g., derived from the same 5 V rail) or compensate in software to avoid measurement errors. Do not use a 3.3 V supply directly; if a 3.3 V system is required, use the lower-voltage MPXV7002 variants or add a boost regulator.
