OPA2237EA/2K5 Présentation
A dual operational amplifier (op amp) is a single integrated circuit that contains two independent op-amp cells sharing common power pins; it is a member of the broader linear IC hierarchy that includes op amps -> amplifiers -> signal conditioning ICs -> analog ICs -> semiconductors. The OPA2237's dual configuration saves PCB area versus two single op amps while keeping channel-to-channel matching tight for instrumentation paths.
Key features include low input bias current (~20 nA), wide bandwidth suitable for active filters and audio preamplifiers, and MicroAmplifier-series miniaturization that targets space-limited portable designs. The 750 µV maximum offset makes the part accurate enough for sensor signal conditioning without external trimming, while the 350 µA quiescent current keeps battery drain modest.
Architecturally, the OPA2237 uses a bipolar input stage optimized for low-offset single-supply operation, with internal compensation that stabilizes the part at unity gain. The wide supply range (±18V or +36V single-supply) lets one part cover both low-voltage battery and higher-voltage industrial signal chains.
Typical applications include battery-powered instrumentation, PCMCIA cards, portable medical devices, transducer amplifiers, and general-purpose signal conditioning in industrial and consumer designs. The MSOP-8 footprint is footprint-compatible with the SOIC-8 OPA2237UA variant for layout reuse.
When designing with this op amp, observe the input common-mode range that includes the negative rail (true single-supply operation) and use a low-impedance ground return to keep offset drift under temperature. Add an output resistor if driving capacitive loads above 1 nF to maintain phase margin.

Applications typiques
OPA2237EA/2K5 convient pour 6 applications: Battery-Powered Sensor Signal Conditioning, Portable Medical Instrumentation, PCMCIA / Card-Sized Industrial Modules, Active Audio Filter and Tone-Control Stages, Transducer and Bridge Amplifiers, General-Purpose Signal Conditioning in PLC and DAQ Systems.
Battery-Powered Sensor Signal Conditioning
The OPA2237EA/2K5's 750 µV maximum input offset and 350 µA quiescent current make it well suited for conditioning low-level sensor signals in Li-ion battery systems. With a single-supply range down to 2.7 V the part can run directly from a single-cell Li-ion or two AA cells, eliminating the need for a negative rail. Its true single-supply input stage that includes the negative rail simplifies bridge-amp circuits for strain gauges and pressure sensors. The 1.5 MHz GBW is sufficient for thermocouple and RTD amplification up to several kHz signal bandwidth.
Recommandé
Portable Medical Instrumentation
The OPA2237EA/2K5 supports portable medical devices where MSOP-8 footprint, low power, and a wide supply range are critical. With ±18 V dual-supply capability the part can handle ECG and EMG front-end signals that swing several volts around ground. The 750 µV offset keeps baseline drift low across body-temperature operating conditions, while 350 µA quiescent current preserves battery life in handheld pulse oximeters and glucose monitors. Bipolar input design gives low input bias current, important for high-impedance electrode interfaces.
Recommandé
PCMCIA / Card-Sized Industrial Modules
Per TI's OPAx237 datasheet, the MicroAmplifier series was designed specifically for PCMCIA cards and other space-limited portable modules where the MSOP-8 footprint of the OPA2237EA/2K5 is a major advantage. The 8-pin MSOP saves roughly 60 percent board area versus SOIC-8, enabling dense multi-channel signal chains on a single card. With +36 V single-supply tolerance, the part survives industrial 24 V bus transients without additional protection, simplifying the BOM.
Recommandé
Active Audio Filter and Tone-Control Stages
The 1.5 MHz gain-bandwidth product and 0.5 V/µs slew rate of the OPA2237EA/2K5 are well matched to active audio filters operating in the 20 Hz to 20 kHz band. Per TI's datasheet, the part offers low total harmonic distortion in audio-band circuits and can serve as a Sallen-Key filter, multiple-feedback low-pass, or Baxandall tone-control stage. The dual-channel package simplifies stereo implementations, and the wide supply range supports both 5 V USB-powered headphone amps and ±15 V hi-fi signal chains.
Recommandé
Transducer and Bridge Amplifiers
The OPA2237EA/2K5's low 750 µV offset and 20 nA bias current give it adequate accuracy for strain-gauge bridges, load-cell amplifiers, and pressure-sensor front-ends. Per TI's application notes, the dual channel lets one IC handle both halves of a differential bridge excitation and read-back path. The single-supply capability from 2.7 V upward simplifies 3.3 V or 5 V transducer designs while the ±18 V dual-supply rating supports industrial 4-20 mA current-loop read-back electronics.
Recommandé
General-Purpose Signal Conditioning in PLC and DAQ Systems
Per TI's product page, the OPA2237EA/2K5 targets general-purpose signal conditioning in industrial PLC and DAQ modules where multi-channel analog front-ends interface with 4-20 mA loops, thermocouples, and 0-10 V signals. The 750 µV offset, ±18 V supply, and 8-pin MSOP make it a flexible building block. Its low 350 µA quiescent current lets designers place multiple OPA2237 chips per module without thermal concerns, and the dual package keeps the BOM count low versus dual SOIC-8 singles.

Notes de conception
Place a 0.1 µF ceramic bypass capacitor as close as possible to the V+ pin (pin 8) of the OPA2237EA/2K5 to decouple high-frequency noise. Per TI's OPAx237 datasheet, additional bulk capacitance (1 µF to 10 µF) may be required if the op amp is more than a few centimeters from the main regulator. Keep the input traces short and guarded if high-impedance sensor signals are connected, and use a ground plane to minimize parasitic coupling between the two channels in the same MSOP-8 package.
Do not assume rail-to-rail output swing. Per TI's datasheet, the OPA2237's output stage does NOT swing to both rails; with a 5 V supply the typical output swing is within ~1 V of each rail at 1 mA load. For rail-to-rail output, choose OPA2192 instead. Also note that although the input common-mode range INCLUDES the negative rail (true single-supply input), exceeding the positive rail by more than 0.5 V can damage the input stage; add series input resistors if transients above V+ are possible.
When using the OPA2237EA/2K5 to drive capacitive loads above ~200 pF directly, add an isolation resistor of 20-50 Ω between the output and the load to preserve phase margin. Per TI's application notes, the part is internally compensated for unity-gain stability but may oscillate with heavy capacitive loading. For ADC driver applications, place a small series resistor plus a 1 nF to 10 nF capacitor on the output to form a noise/charge-kickback filter without exceeding the amplifier's capacitive-load drive limit.
Estimated: At maximum quiescent current of 350 µA per channel, the OPA2237EA/2K5 dissipates roughly 350 µA × 2 channels × V+ = 2.1 mW at 3 V supply or 25 mW at 36 V supply. The MSOP-8 package thermal resistance θJA is approximately 200 °C/W per JEDEC EIA/JESD51 standards, so the junction temperature rise is negligible (<5 °C) under normal conditions. No heatsink is required; however, ensure the PCB copper area around pins 4 and 8 (power pins) provides adequate thermal dissipation if the part is used in a high-channel-density module.
