REF5030AIDGKR Présentation
A voltage reference is a component that produces a constant output voltage independent of load current, input voltage, and temperature. It is a fundamental building block of analog and mixed-signal systems, supplying the reference used by ADCs, DACs, comparators, and sensor excitation circuits. Voltage references divide into series and shunt types; the REF5030 is a series reference that operates like a precision linear regulator, both sinking and sourcing current while holding a precise output.
Key features include a maximum temperature coefficient of 3 ppm/C, 0.05% initial accuracy, output noise of 3 uVpp/V (typical), and a wide input range of 3.2V to 18V. The device consumes about 1.2 mA of quiescent current, making it suitable for battery-powered instrumentation, while the 10 mA sink/source capability allows driving multiple converter reference pins. A TRIM/NR pin supports output trimming and noise reduction with an external capacitor.
The REF5030 uses a bandgap-based architecture with precision wafer-level trimming to achieve high accuracy and low drift. It belongs to the REF50xx family (2.5V, 3V, 4.096V, 5V options), sharing pinout and footprint across output voltages for design reuse. Excellent line and load regulation makes it robust against supply and load transients.
Typical applications include precision data acquisition systems with high-resolution ADCs such as the ADS1262, industrial process-control transmitters, medical instrumentation front ends, and portable battery-powered test equipment where reference accuracy directly determines conversion accuracy.
When designing with the REF5030AIDGKR, use 0.1 uF to 10 uF ceramic decoupling capacitors on input and output. The output capacitor is required for stability per the TI datasheet, and load current should stay within the 10 mA maximum to preserve accuracy.

Applications typiques
REF5030AIDGKR convient pour 6 applications: Precision Data Acquisition, Industrial Process Control Transmitters, Medical Instrumentation Front Ends, Portable Battery-Powered Test Equipment, Automotive Sensing Modules, High-Resolution DAC Output Stages.
Precision Data Acquisition
The REF5030AIDGKR supplies a stable 3V reference to high-resolution ADCs such as the ADS1262, where 0.05% initial accuracy and 3 ppm/C drift directly determine conversion accuracy over temperature. The 10 mA sink/source capability lets one reference drive several converter reference pins. Placed close to the ADC reference input with 0.1 uF to 10 uF ceramic decoupling, it preserves full effective resolution; the TRIM/NR capacitor reduces low-frequency noise for spurious-free acquisition.
Recommandé
Industrial Process Control Transmitters
In 4-20 mA loop-powered transmitters, the REF5030AIDGKR provides the ADC reference that sets measurement accuracy across the full -40C to +125C industrial range. Its 3 ppm/C drift bounds calibration error to a few microvolts per degree, and the 3.2V to 18V input range tolerates loop supply variation. The 1.2 mA quiescent current fits loop power budgets, while excellent line regulation rejects supply ripple from the current loop regulator.
Recommandé
Medical Instrumentation Front Ends
Patient-monitoring and diagnostic analog front ends require references with low noise to avoid corrupting microvolt-level biopotential signals. The REF5030AIDGKR's 3 uVpp/V typical noise and TRIM/NR noise-reduction capacitor make it well suited to powering precision amplifier references in ECG and biosensor front ends. Its series topology sources and sinks current, stabilizing reference nodes against transient load steps from switched-capacitor ADC input stages.
Recommandé
Portable Battery-Powered Test Equipment
Handheld multimeters and portable instrumentation benefit from the REF5030AIDGKR's combination of 0.05% accuracy and only about 1.2 mA quiescent current. Its 3.2V minimum input allows direct operation from a 3.7V lithium cell with a modest boost or LDO, while 3 ppm/C drift keeps handheld readings consistent over temperature swings in field use. The 18V maximum input also supports operation from stacked battery packs.
Recommandé
Automotive Sensing Modules
For automotive sensor and BMS modules, the AEC-Q100 qualified companion variant REF5030AIDGKR-Q1 shares this exact footprint, enabling one PCB layout to serve both industrial and automotive programs. The wide -40C to +125C range and 3 ppm/C drift maintain measurement integrity in under-hood environments. Pairing with Q1-qualified ADCs and isolators creates fully automotive-qualified signal chains without reference-drift-induced calibration loss.
Recommandé
High-Resolution DAC Output Stages
Precision DAC output scaling depends directly on reference stability; the REF5030AIDGKR's 0.05% accuracy and 3 ppm/C drift hold DAC full-scale error well below 1 LSB of a 16-bit converter over temperature. Its 10 mA sourcing capability drives DAC reference pins and resistive ladder networks without droop, and low noise keeps the output SNR uncorrupted. The NR capacitor filters reference noise before it multiplies into the analog output.

Notes de conception
Place a 0.1 uF to 10 uF ceramic capacitor on VIN and a 0.1 uF to 10 uF capacitor on VOUT within 2 mm of the pins. Per the TI REF50xx datasheet, the output capacitor is required for stability - do not omit it. Use a solid ground plane under the DGK package and solder the exposed powerpad feature of the VSSOP-8 to ground for thermal and noise performance.
Use the TRIM/NR pin with a 0.01 uF to 1 uF capacitor to ground to reduce output noise below the 3 uVpp/V typical level. Do not use the TRIM function and the NR capacitor simultaneously without consulting the datasheet trim circuit guidance, as the trim network impedance affects the noise-filter pole frequency.
Keep load current within the 10 mA maximum; exceeding it degrades accuracy and regulation. Ensure VIN stays at least 200 mV above the 3V output under all conditions including transient dips. Do not treat this shunt-style; it is a series reference and requires the input supply - the VIN pin cannot be stacked with a resistor from a high rail above 18V.
