ATMEGA88V-10MJ 概要

The Microchip Technology ATMEGA88V-10MJ is an 8-bit AVR RISC microcontroller with 8KB of in-system programmable Flash memory, 1KB SRAM, 512B EEPROM, and 23 general-purpose I/O lines, operating from 1.8V to 5.5V at up to 10MHz in a 32-pin VQFN/MLF package.

An 8-bit microcontroller (MCU) is a single integrated circuit that contains a processor core, memory, and programmable input/output peripherals on one chip. Within the power-management-and-control hierarchy of embedded systems, the microcontroller sits at the application layer, executing firmware that sequences sensors, actuators, and communication interfaces. The AVR architecture used in the ATmega88 family executes most of its 131 instructions in a single clock cycle, delivering throughput close to 1 MIPS per MHz.

Key features of the ATMEGA88V-10MJ include self-programming Flash with read-while-write capability, an 8-channel 10-bit ADC, three flexible timer/counters with compare modes, a byte-oriented Two-Wire serial interface (I2C-compatible), a programmable serial USART, and an SPI serial port. The debugWIRE on-chip debug system allows single-wire debugging and programming, reducing pin count overhead during development.

Technically, the device belongs to the picoPower AVR generation, offering multiple sleep modes including Idle, ADC Noise Reduction, Power-save, Power-down, Standby, and Extended Standby. The V suffix designates the wide 1.8V to 5.5V operating range, making the part suitable for battery-powered designs, while the 10 designates a 10MHz maximum clock at full voltage range.

Typical applications include battery-powered sensor nodes, small appliance control, industrial instrumentation, LED lighting control, and motor control auxiliary functions where low-voltage operation and moderate performance are required.

When designing with this MCU, remember that the 32-lead MLF package requires the exposed pad to be soldered to a grounded PCB pad for reliable operation and heat dissipation, and that debugWIRE shares the RESET pin, so fuse settings must be managed carefully.

This page synthesizes verified distributor data, same-family drop-in alternatives, pinout information, and practical design notes not found in the manufacturer datasheet.

主な用途

ATMEGA88V-10MJ の用途: 6 件s: Battery-Powered Sensor Nodes, Small Appliance and Home Device Control, Industrial Instrumentation Front Ends, LED Lighting and Dimming Control, Hobbyist and Educational Embedded Systems, Motor Control Auxiliary Functions.

🧩

Battery-Powered Sensor Nodes

The ATMEGA88V-10MJ fits battery-powered sensing nodes because its 1.8V minimum supply allows direct operation from a discharged lithium cell or two alkaline cells, and its multiple sleep modes cut average current dramatically. In a typical design the MCU wakes on pin-change interrupt, runs the 8-channel 10-bit ADC to sample a sensor, transmits over USART or SPI to a radio module, then enters Power-down mode. Because the AVR executes most instructions in a single cycle at 10MHz, the active-phase energy stays small relative to the sleep budget, and the 512B EEPROM stores calibration constants without external memory.

💡

Small Appliance and Home Device Control

For appliance control boards - fans, coffee machines, small pumps - the ATMEGA88V-10MJ provides 23 GPIO lines, three timer/counters with PWM compare outputs, and a 10-bit ADC for NTC temperature sensing and user interface buttons, all in one 32-lead MLF device. Its 8KB self-programming Flash supports firmware updates in the field via a bootloader over USART. The wide 1.8V-5.5V range tolerates poorly regulated transformer supplies, and the debugWIRE interface lets engineers debug the final assembled board through the RESET pin without dedicating extra pins to a JTAG port.

🏭

Industrial Instrumentation Front Ends

In industrial instruments, the ATMEGA88V-10MJ serves as a low-cost acquisition controller: the 8-channel 10-bit ADC reads analog sensors such as 4-20mA-derived voltages and potentiometers, while the Two-Wire (I2C-compatible) interface talks to external precision ADCs or EEPROMs, and SPI connects to displays. The 10 MIPS throughput at 10MHz handles simple filtering and scaling algorithms, and the wide operating voltage survives 24V-system transients mapped through conditioning circuits down to a 5V rail. Its MLF package tolerates the vibration typical of panel-mounted equipment better than fine-pitch leaded alternatives.

💡

LED Lighting and Dimming Control

The ATMEGA88V-10MJ drives LED dimming applications by generating hardware PWM from its 8-bit and 16-bit timer compare units, giving glitch-free dimming without CPU intervention. The 10-bit ADC reads potentiometers, ambient light sensors, or LED current-sense shunts to close a feedback loop, and the USART supports DMX-style serial protocols at moderate rates. Running at 1.8V-5.5V allows use on single-cell LED drivers, and the low-cost MLF package suits high-volume luminaire control boards where board area and cost dominate the bill of materials.

🔧

Hobbyist and Educational Embedded Systems

The ATmega88 family is a staple in education and hobby platforms; the ATMEGA88V-10MJ's 8KB Flash, 1KB SRAM, Arduino-compatible AVR core, and ISP/debugWIRE programming make it approachable with free toolchains (AVR-GCC, avrdude) and low-cost programmers. The wide 1.8V-5.5V supply range lets students power boards from USB 5V or battery packs without damage, and the 23 GPIO with 10-bit ADC support typical lab exercises from LED blink to sensor data logging. The MLF-32 package exposes the same pin functions as the DIP version, keeping learning materials transferable.

⚙️

Motor Control Auxiliary Functions

In small motor systems - fans, gates, pumps - the ATMEGA88V-10MJ handles supervisory roles: reading Hall or tachometer signals via pin-change interrupts and timer capture, generating PWM gate commands for a driver IC, and sequencing power rails. The 10-bit ADC monitors bus voltage, current shunts, and temperature, enabling stall detection and thermal protection. At 10MHz the core manages basic commutation for single-phase or small BLDC drives, and the 1.8V-5.5V range supports designs powered from rectified low-voltage supplies. The exposed-pad MLF package provides solid ground integrity for PWM noise management.

What is the operating voltage range of ATMEGA88V-10MJ?
The ATMEGA88V-10MJ operates from 1.8V to 5.5V across its full temperature range. The V suffix in the part number designates this wide low-voltage range, distinguishing it from the standard 2.7V-5.5V ATmega88 variants. This makes it well suited for single-cell lithium or two-cell alkaline battery-powered designs.
What is the maximum clock frequency of ATMEGA88V-10MJ?
The ATMEGA88V-10MJ runs at a maximum clock frequency of 10MHz, which the 10 in the part number denotes. Because the AVR core executes most of its 131 instructions in a single clock cycle, this yields up to 10 MIPS throughput. Higher-speed ATmega88 variants such as the -20 parts run at 20MHz but over a narrower 4.5V-5.5V supply range.
What memory does the ATMEGA88V-10MJ have?
The ATMEGA88V-10MJ contains 8KB of self-programming ISP Flash with read-while-write capability, 1KB of SRAM, and 512B of EEPROM. According to Microchip product data for the ATmega88 family, the Flash is organized for in-system programming and the EEPROM supports 100,000 write cycles, allowing parameter storage without external non-volatile memory.
Where can I download the ATMEGA88V-10MJ datasheet PDF?
The ATMEGA88V-10MJ datasheet, titled 8-bit Microcontroller with 8K Bytes In-System Programmable Flash, is available from the Microchip ATmega88 product page at microchip.com/en-us/product/ATmega88, which links the current PDF. Mirror copies are hosted on aggregator sites such as alldatasheet.com and digchip.com, but Microchip's official page is the authoritative source.
What is the difference between ATMEGA88V-10MJ and ATMEGA88V-10MI?
The ATMEGA88V-10MJ and ATMEGA88V-10MI are electrically identical 8KB Flash AVR MCUs in the same 32-lead MLF package; the difference is the ordering/temperature designation carried by the J versus I suffix in the legacy Atmel part-numbering scheme. Both share the same 1.8V-5.5V operating range and 10MHz clock limit, making them direct substitutes in most builds, though you should confirm the exact grade code against the current Microchip ordering code.
What is the best drop-in replacement for ATMEGA88V-10MJ?
The best drop-in replacements are same-family Microchip parts in the identical 32-lead MLF package: ATMEGA88V-10MI (electrical equivalent), ATMEGA88PV-10MUR (picoPower variant with lower power consumption), and ATMEGA88PA-ANR or ATMEGA88PB-ANR (enhanced picoPower successors that are backward compatible with the ATmega88V). The PA/PB parts add higher clock options while remaining pin-compatible.
Is ATMEGA88V-10MJ still in production?
No, the ATMEGA88V-10MJ is an obsolete legacy Atmel part no longer recommended for new designs. Microchip has migrated the ATmega88 family to the ATmega88PA and ATmega88PB variants, which are pin-compatible improvements with lower power consumption. Existing designs can typically migrate to ATMEGA88PA-ANR in the same MLF-32 footprint, but fuse register behavior should be re-verified.
Can ATMEGA88PA-ANR replace ATMEGA88V-10MJ in my design?
Yes, the ATMEGA88PA-ANR is a pin-compatible, same-MLF-package replacement for the ATMEGA88V-10MJ. The PA variant is a die-level enhancement of the ATmega88 with the same 8KB Flash, 1KB SRAM, 512B EEPROM, and 1.8V-5.5V operation, plus lower active and sleep currents. According to Microchip's family documentation, ATmega88PA is backward compatible with ATmega88V, though calibration bytes and some electrical characteristics differ slightly.
What are the key specifications of ATMEGA88V-10MJ engineers should know?
The ATMEGA88V-10MJ is an 8-bit AVR RISC microcontroller with 8KB ISP Flash, 1KB SRAM, 512B EEPROM, 23 GPIO lines, an 8-channel 10-bit ADC, three timer/counters, USART, SPI, and I2C-compatible Two-Wire interface. It operates from 1.8V to 5.5V at up to 10MHz (10 MIPS) in a 32-lead MLF package and includes debugWIRE on-chip debugging.
Is ATMEGA88V-10MJ the same as ATMEGA88V-10AUR?
No, they are not the same package. The ATMEGA88V-10MJ comes in a 32-lead QFN/MLF (pad-based, leadless) package, while the ATMEGA88V-10AUR is the same die in a 32-lead TQFP with gull-wing leads. Electrically both are 1.8V-5.5V, 10MHz, 8KB Flash MCUs, but the footprints differ, so one cannot be soldered onto the other's land pattern without a PCB change.
Where to buy ATMEGA88V-10MJ online?
The ATMEGA88V-10MJ can be ordered through DigiKey (part ATMEGA88V-10MJ-ND) and compared across distributors on Octopart, which lists availability from multiple sellers. Because this is an obsolete Atmel-era part, stock is limited and often comes from broker inventory, so verify date codes and authenticity. XAIPART also accepts quote requests for this MPN and can source it with verification.
What is the price of ATMEGA88V-10MJ?
Pricing for the ATMEGA88V-10MJ is volume-dependent; typical distributor levels on this page are approximately $2.10 at quantity 1, stepping down to about $1.32 at 1000 units as of 2026-09-19. Because the part is obsolete, broker-market pricing fluctuates significantly - always request a current quote before committing to a bill of materials, as prices above are indicative.
What is the best non-Microchip equivalent for ATMEGA88V-10MJ?
There is no verified pin-to-pin cross-brand equivalent for the ATMEGA88V-10MJ in a 32-lead MLF package; competitors such as NXP, ST, and Renesas offer 8-bit MCUs with similar memory (e.g., 8KB Flash classes) but with different pinouts and tools. When a drop-in replacement is mandatory, the safe path is a same-family Microchip part (ATMEGA88PA-ANR or ATMEGA88PB-ANR); a functional cross-brand migration requires firmware and PCB redesign.
How do I program the ATMEGA88V-10MJ?
The ATMEGA88V-10MJ supports in-system programming via its SPI interface (using an ISP programmer such as Atmel-ICE or USBasp) and self-programming via a bootloader. It also features debugWIRE, which enables single-wire in-circuit debugging and programming over the RESET pin using Atmel-ICE. Note that switching between debugWIRE and ISP modes requires fuse changes and sometimes a high-voltage parallel programmer to recover a mis-fused part.
When should I choose ATMEGA88V-10MJ over ATMEGA88-20MU?
Choose the ATMEGA88V-10MJ when your design must operate below 4.5V - for example on a 3.3V or battery supply - because its 1.8V-5.5V range covers low-voltage rails. Choose ATMEGA88-20MU only when the system runs from a fixed 5V rail and needs the 20MHz/20 MIPS performance. Both share the same 32-lead MLF footprint and peripheral set, so the choice is driven by supply voltage and clock speed.
Does the ATMEGA88V-10MJ MLF package need special PCB considerations?
Yes, the 32-lead MLF package is leadless: its perimeter pads terminate at the bottom surface edges and an exposed central pad must be soldered to ground. Use a non-solder-mask-defined (NSMD) pad design with via array under the exposed pad, and follow Microchip's MLF application guidelines. Hand rework is difficult, so plan inspection and reflow profiles accordingly.

選定ガイド

Choose ATMEGA88V-10MJ only when you must repair or replicate an existing obsolete design that specifies this exact legacy Atmel part. For new designs, select ATMEGA88PA-ANR (same MLF-32 footprint, backward compatible, lower power, active lifecycle) or ATMEGA88PB-ANR if you need the newest silicon and added peripherals. Choose ATMEGA88PV-10MUR when battery life is the priority but you want to stay closest to the original V-grade behavior. Choose ATMEGA88-20MU only for 5V-only systems needing 20 MIPS. Note that TQFP variants such as ATMEGA88V-10AUR or ATMEGA88A-AU are electrically equivalent but NOT drop-in replacements on an MLF land pattern - they require a different PCB footprint. All Microchip AVR options share the AVR-GCC toolchain, so firmware porting effort is minimal.

主な差別化要因

  • True low-voltage operation down to 1.8V (vs ATMEGA88-20MU)
  • Lower power consumption with picoPower successors (vs ATMEGA88V-10MI)
  • Drop-in upgrade path to newer silicon (vs ATMEGA88PB-ANR)

設計ノート

The 32-lead MLF package is leadless, so the exposed central die pad must be connected to ground. Design a 3x3 or larger via array under the pad, connected to the ground plane, and apply sufficient solder paste coverage to avoid voiding. Perimeter pads should use non-solder-mask-defined (NSMD) geometry per Microchip MLF application guidelines. Because rework on MLF parts is difficult, plan X-ray or AOI inspection during production ramp.

Decouple each VCC pin (pins 4 and 6) with 100nF ceramic capacitors placed within 2-3mm of the pin, plus one bulk 4.7-10uF capacitor near the device. AVCC (pin 18) must be connected to VCC through a low-pass filter (e.g., 10 ohm series resistor plus 100nF) when ADC accuracy matters, and must never be left floating. Keep the AREF node decoupled with 100nF to GND and do not drive it when the internal reference is selected.

debugWIRE shares the RESET pin (PC6): once the DWEN fuse is programmed, ISP programming is disabled and a debugWIRE session is required to restore it. Design a series resistor on RESET so both interfaces remain usable. Also note the maximum 10MHz clock: exceeding the frequency-versus-VCC safe operating curve can cause unstable execution, so verify the CKDIV8 and clock-source fuse settings before first power-up.
