PIC17C752-33/L 概要

The Microchip Technology PIC17C752-33/L is an 8-bit CMOS EPROM-based microcontroller from the PIC17C family, operating at 33 MHz with 16 KB (8K x 16) of OTP program memory and 678 bytes of RAM, housed in a 68-pin PLCC (24.23 x 24.23 mm, J-lead) package.

A microcontroller (MCU) is a single-chip computer that integrates a CPU core, program memory, working RAM, and configurable I/O peripherals. The PIC17C family represents Microchip's high-end 8-bit architecture, positioned between baseline PIC16 parts and 16-bit dsPIC/PIC24 devices, and is typically used in complex 8-bit embedded control applications where 16-bit performance is not required. PIC microcontrollers are widely deployed in industrial control, automotive subsystems, white goods, and instrumentation, and the PIC17C752 sits at the upper end of that 8-bit line with a Harvard RISC core, 25-stage pipeline, and hardware multiplier.

Key features include 50 digital I/O lines, 12 channels of 10-bit A/D conversion, three PWM outputs, four capture inputs, multiple timer modules, an external memory interface, and a synchronous serial port configurable for either 3-wire SPI or 2-wire I2C communication. Two USART modules also support asynchronous and synchronous serial links. The core delivers approximately 8.25 MIPS of throughput at 33 MHz (121 ns single-cycle instruction time, except for program branches and table reads/writes which take two cycles), with only 58 single-word instructions to learn, enabling fast firmware development.

The architecture combines a Harvard memory layout (separate program and data buses), an 8-bit ALU, a hardware 8x8 multiplier, and wide 16-bit instruction words fetched in a single cycle. The 68-pin PLCC package provides ample pins for the 50 I/O, multiple serial interfaces, A/D channels, PWM/capture signals, and external memory bus, while keeping the die in a socket-friendly through-hole-friendly format for industrial and legacy designs.

Typical applications include industrial process control, motor control with PWM and feedback capture, instrumentation with on-chip A/D, automotive body and accessory ECUs, white-goods appliance control, security panels, and embedded-control upgrades for legacy 8051 systems where higher throughput is needed without migrating to 16-bit cores.

When designing with PIC17C752-33/L, ensure the 4.5-5.5 V supply is well decoupled and the 33 MHz oscillator layout follows Microchip's oscillator guidelines. The OTP program memory means firmware is masked in production; for field upgrades or prototyping, consider the PIC17C752-33/L windowed (JW) or the flash-based PIC18F6520 that Microchip recommends as the newer migration path.

This page synthesizes distributor stock and pricing, pin-compatible drop-in alternatives from the PIC17C family, comparison parameters versus PIC18F migration parts, and practical design notes not consolidated in the manufacturer datasheet.

🖥️

Legacy 8051 System Migration

The PIC17C752-33/L migrates legacy 8051 designs to the PIC RISC architecture, delivering roughly 4x the throughput at the same 33 MHz clock thanks to the 8.25 MIPS Harvard core versus the 8051's 12-cycle instruction. Per the Microchip datasheet, the 58-instruction RISC set is simpler than the 8051's 256-instruction CISC, easing firmware rewrite, and the 50 I/O plus 12-channel ADC usually meet or exceed 8051-based designs. The 68-pin PLCC package can reuse PLCC sockets on retrofit boards, minimizing mechanical rework.

What is the program memory size of the PIC17C752-33/L?
The PIC17C752-33/L contains 16 KB (8K x 16) of OTP EPROM program memory. According to the Microchip datasheet, this is organized as 8K single-word instructions of 16 bits each, mask-programmed during production with firmware. Once programmed, the memory cannot be re-written, so this part is suited for high-volume production rather than field updates.
What clock speed and CPU throughput does PIC17C752-33/L deliver?
The PIC17C752-33/L operates at up to 33 MHz and delivers approximately 8.25 MIPS of throughput. Per Microchip's datasheet, every instruction executes in one 121 ns cycle except program branches and table reads/writes, which require two cycles (242 ns). An 8-bit hardware multiplier executes a single-cycle 8x8 multiply, accelerating DSP-style math.
Does PIC17C752-33/L have an A/D converter and how many channels?
Yes. The PIC17C752-33/L integrates a 12-channel, 10-bit successive-approximation A/D converter with sample-and-hold on-chip. According to the Microchip datasheet, this eliminates an external ADC for typical analog sensing tasks such as temperature, voltage, and current monitoring, and supports up to 12 analog inputs multiplexed into a single ADC core.
Is the PIC17C752-33/L still in production or has it been discontinued?
The PIC17C752-33/L is obsolete. Microchip's product page explicitly notes that 'A newer device is available. Please consider PIC18F6520' as the recommended migration path. Distributor stock remains at catalog distributors for legacy designs, but the part is no longer recommended for new designs. Designers should plan a migration to PIC18F6520 or a compatible PIC18 family member.
What is the difference between PIC17C752-33/L and PIC17C756?
The PIC17C756 is the higher-memory sibling of the PIC17C752. According to Microchip's PIC17C family datasheet, the PIC17C752 ships with 16 KB of OTP program memory while the PIC17C756 provides 32 KB. Both share the same 68-pin PLCC package, 33 MHz core, 50 I/O, 12-channel 10-bit ADC, 4 capture, 3 PWM, and identical peripherals, making the 756 a drop-in memory upgrade.
What is the operating voltage of PIC17C752-33/L?
The PIC17C752-33/L operates from 4.5 V to 5.5 V, making it a 5 V part rather than a 3.3 V part. According to the Microchip datasheet, this is the standard supply range for the PIC17C family and is compatible with TTL logic levels on its digital I/O. Designers migrating from 3.3 V platforms need a level translator or a 5 V supply rail to support this part.
Where to buy PIC17C752-33/L online and what is the lead time?
The PIC17C752-33/L can be sourced from DigiKey (281937), Mouser, Hotenda, MicrochipUSA, and other catalog distributors as of 2026-09-26. Because the part is obsolete, lead time is inventory-driven: distributors showing stock typically ship same-day, but for large volumes (1000+) buyers should confirm stock with the supplier or plan around 6-12 weeks via franchised brokers. Pricing as of 2026-09-26 starts near $8.92 unit at qty 1.
What is the price of PIC17C752-33/L in volume?
The PIC17C752-33/L lists at approximately $8.92 per unit at qty 1, declining to roughly $5.74 per unit at qty 1000 as of 2026-09-26, per DigiKey catalog pricing. Because the part is obsolete, expect inventory-based fluctuations and brokers' premiums on larger volumes. For new designs, Microchip recommends migrating to PIC18F6520 which offers flash memory and modern peripherals at comparable or lower cost.
Is PIC17C752-33/L in stock at major distributors?
Yes. DigiKey's listing (281937) historically showed 'Buy now, ships today', and Mouser, Hotenda, and Xecor also show PIC17C752-33/L inventory as of 2026-09-26. Stock levels fluctuate because the part is obsolete; designers should not assume long-term supply and should qualify a second source such as PIC18F6520 or a PIC17C756 (same family, double the program memory).
What is the best drop-in replacement for PIC17C752-33/L?
The best drop-in upgrade within the same family is PIC17C756-44/44I/P, which doubles program memory to 32 KB while sharing the 68-pin PLCC package and identical pinout. For new designs, Microchip recommends migrating to PIC18F6520 which offers flash memory (reprogrammable in-circuit) and the same 68-pin footprint, though with a different pinout so this is a PCB rework. For exact same-die same-pinout drop-ins, PIC17C752-33I/L (industrial temp grade) is a direct substitute.
PIC17C752-33/L vs PIC18F6520 - which is better for new designs?
The PIC18F6520 is the better choice for new designs. The PIC18F6520 offers 32 KB of flash (reprogrammable), 2 KB of RAM, an enhanced 8-bit core with 16-bit instructions, and modern peripherals including a 10-bit ADC, while maintaining the same 68-pin package footprint. The PIC17C752-33/L is better only when you must retain an existing 5 V board layout or already-deployed firmware for legacy reasons. Per Microchip's product page, PIC18F6520 is the official migration recommendation.
Can PIC17C752-33I/L replace PIC17C752-33/L?
Yes, PIC17C752-33I/L is a drop-in replacement for PIC17C752-33/L. Both share the same 68-pin PLCC package, 33 MHz clock, 16 KB OTP, 50 I/O, 12-channel 10-bit ADC, and identical peripherals. The 'I' suffix denotes the industrial operating temperature range of -40C to +85C versus the unspecified commercial range of the -33/L base part, so the I-grade is functionally a strict superset and is pin-compatible per the Microchip PIC17C752 family datasheet.

エンジニアリング参考データ: PIC17C752-33/L — 比較、設計ガイダンス、コンプライアンス情報。

選定ガイド

Choose PIC17C752-33/L when you must maintain an existing 5 V, 68-pin PLCC PIC17C-based board design and need the highest available throughput (8.25 MIPS) within the PIC17C752 sub-family. For new designs, Microchip explicitly recommends migrating to PIC18F6520, which offers 32 KB flash memory and modern peripherals but requires PCB re-layout due to a different pinout. Choose PIC17C752-33I/L if your application runs in -40C to +85C environments (industrial, automotive under-hood) - it is a strict-superset drop-in. Choose PIC17C752-16/L or PIC17C752-16E/PT for lower-cost, lower-power designs where 4 MIPS suffices; these are pin-compatible but reduce clock by 52%. Choose PIC17C756-33/L or PIC17C756-33I/L when firmware exceeds 16 KB but you want to stay on the same PCB - they double program memory with no other changes.

設計ノート

The PIC17C752-33/L operates from a single 4.5 V to 5.5 V supply. Per Microchip's datasheet, the digital Vdd and analog AVdd should each be decoupled with a 100 nF ceramic capacitor placed within 5 mm of the respective supply pin, with a bulk 10 uF tantalum or low-ESR ceramic cap at the regulator output. AVdd must be tied to the same 5 V rail as Vdd or to a filtered version. Place a ferrite bead in series between Vdd and AVdd if ADC accuracy is degraded by digital switching noise. The PLCC package has multiple Vss pins; all must be connected to the ground plane for thermal and electrical integrity.

The 68-pin PLCC accepts standard PLCC sockets, but lead-free and tin-lead variants are not interchangeable on the same board finish. Per Microchip's recommendations, route the oscillator traces (OSC1/OSC2) as short as possible, guarded on both sides by ground pour, and keep them away from high-current traces and PWM outputs. Place external memory bus lines (PORTE and PORTD) on inner PCB layers with matched trace lengths if external memory is used. Maintain a continuous ground plane under the PLCC; the J-leads should form a uniform solder fillet on each of the four sides.

OTP program memory cannot be re-written in-circuit: the part must be programmed before solder or via a socketed programmer. Per Microchip's datasheet, a wrong configuration word (e.g., watchdog enabled, oscillator mode wrong) can brick the device because configuration bits are also OTP. For prototyping, use a windowed (JW) package variant. Brown-out reset must be enabled via the configuration word to avoid code corruption during power dips; without BOR, the MCU may execute random instructions below 4.5 V. MCLR must be tied to Vdd via a 10 kohm resistor and a 100 nF cap to ground for proper in-circuit serial programming.

Per Microchip's PIC17C family application notes, EMI on analog inputs is mitigated by placing 1 nF bypass caps close to each ANx pin used for ADC. Reference voltage Vref+ should be decoupled with 10 uF + 100 nF; noise on Vref+ directly couples into ADC readings. Trace PORTA and PORTE to analog signals with short direct runs; do not share analog and digital signal layers. Avoid running PWM outputs (CCP1-CCP3) parallel to analog inputs to prevent capacitive coupling. The synchronous serial port (SCK/SDO/SDI) traces should be matched-length within 10 mm if SPI runs above 5 MHz at 33 MHz Fosc.
