OPA171AIDRLT 개요

The Texas Instruments OPA171AIDRLT is a single-channel, 36V, 3MHz, low-power operational amplifier (op amp) in a 5-pin SOT-553 (DRL) micropackage with rail-to-rail output (RRO). It is part of the OPAx171 family, which shares identical AC and DC specifications across single, dual, and quad versions for maximum design flexibility. The device operates from a single supply of 2.7V to 36V (or dual ±1.35V to ±18V), drawing only 475 µA of quiescent current per channel while delivering 3 MHz of gain-bandwidth product and 1.5 V/µs slew rate.

An operational amplifier (op amp) is a high-gain DC-coupled electronic voltage amplifier with differential inputs and a single-ended output, used as a foundational building block in analog signal chains. Op amps sit inside the broader hierarchy of linear integrated circuits (ICs) -> amplifiers -> operational amplifiers, and are commonly classified by supply range, bandwidth, power, and noise. The OPA171 is targeted at low-power, single-supply general-purpose applications where a wide supply range (up to 36V) and rail-to-rail output swing are required - it is NOT a precision or low-noise audio op amp, but rather a general-purpose workhorse for industrial and consumer designs.

Key features of the OPA171AIDRLT include 3 MHz GBW, 1.5 V/µs slew rate, 475 µA quiescent current, 36 V supply tolerance, rail-to-rail output swing, ±2 mV typical input offset voltage, and internal RF/EMI filtering on the inputs. The SOT-553 (DRL) package is a low-profile (~0.5 mm) surface-mount micropackage suitable for space-constrained PCB designs. The OPAx171 family delivers low offset, low drift, low quiescent current, and 3 MHz bandwidth simultaneously - a combination rare in this supply-voltage class.

Architecturally, the OPA171 uses a CMOS input stage that allows true rail-to-rail input common-mode range (no input phase reversal), paired with a class AB output stage capable of rail-to-rail swing. Internal EMI/RFI rejection filters on the input pins suppress high-frequency interference, simplifying compliance in industrial environments. The device is also specified over the -40°C to +125°C automotive and industrial temperature range.

Typical applications include building automation sensor conditioning, battery-powered industrial transmitters, low-side current sensing, active filters, transducer drivers, and general-purpose signal buffering in 4-20 mA loops, PLC analog input modules, and portable instrumentation. The wide supply range (2.7V-36V) makes it well-suited to 5V USB-powered systems and 24V industrial bus rails from the same part.

When designing with this op amp, observe that the input common-mode range extends to both rails but the input offset voltage degrades near the rails (CMOS input stage). Output is rail-to-rail but the output swing spec is typically within 50 mV of either rail at light loads. Decouple the supply pin with at least 0.1 µF X7R ceramic placed within 5 mm of the pin to ensure stability and PSRR performance.

일반적인 애플리케이션

OPA171AIDRLT 적합 용도: 7 애플리케이션s: Industrial 4-20 mA Sensor Conditioning, Battery-Powered Portable Instrumentation, Building Automation and HVAC Sensor Interface, Active Filter and Signal Processing Stage, Automotive Sensor Signal Buffers, Power Supply Voltage and Current Monitor, General-Purpose Signal Amplification and Buffering.

🏭

Industrial 4-20 mA Sensor Conditioning

The OPA171AIDRLT is well-matched for industrial 4-20 mA loop-powered sensor conditioning because of its 36V single-supply tolerance and 475 µA quiescent current. In a typical loop interface the op amp buffers and amplifies the millivolt-level signal from a load cell, RTD, or pressure transducer before it drives the loop transmitter. The rail-to-rail output lets the transmitter output span nearly the full 24V loop compliance, while the low Iq keeps the total circuit budget under a few milliamps. A practical circuit uses the OPA171AIDRLT in a 3-op-amp instrumentation configuration with gain set by external resistors to scale the 0-10 mV transducer signal to a 4-20 mA current loop. The internal EMI/RFI filter on the OPA171 inputs suppresses the high-frequency noise that is common on long factory floor cable runs, which is a major reliability benefit over older op amps lacking this filtering. Per the manufacturer datasheet, the EMI rejection ratio exceeds 60 dB at 1 GHz frequencies, allowing the design to pass industrial CE/EMC tests with simpler external filtering.

📱

Battery-Powered Portable Instrumentation

The 475 µA quiescent current and 2.7V minimum supply make the OPA171AIDRLT ideal for battery-powered portable instrumentation such as handheld multimeters, data loggers, and medical monitoring wearables. Powered from a single Li-ion cell (3.0V to 4.2V) or two AA cells, the part draws very little overhead current while providing 3 MHz of bandwidth - enough for active filters and piezoelectric transducer amplifiers. The CMOS input stage presents only 8 pA of bias current, which is critical for high-impedance sensor interfaces such as pH probes or piezo film sensors where bias current would otherwise create drift. A common configuration uses the OPA171AIDRLT as a unity-gain buffer for a high-impedance sensor, followed by a gain stage to drive the ADC. Total supply current for the two-stage signal chain is under 1 mA, extending battery runtime by 20-30 percent compared to older quad op amps. The 36V supply tolerance is a safety margin that protects the op amp from inductive kickback or battery transient over-voltage.

🏭

Building Automation and HVAC Sensor Interface

The OPA171AIDRLT suits building automation sensor interfaces - including thermistor bridges, humidity sensors, and CO2 sensor interfaces - where the supply rail is typically 24V AC or 24V DC and the op amp must tolerate common-mode transients well above 5V. The 36V supply voltage range covers the rectified 24VAC rail with margin, and the rail-to-rail output swing lets the microcontroller's ADC see the full dynamic range without leaving gain unused. In a typical circuit, the OPA171AIDRLT serves as a 1.5x gain buffer between a 10 kΩ NTC thermistor divider and a 0-3.3V ADC, producing a temperature-to-voltage response that the MCU interprets directly. The wide operating temperature range (-40°C to +125°C) of the OPA171AIDRLT matches the harsh indoor and outdoor environments common to HVAC and building automation. The SOT-553 package sits cleanly behind a 0805 passive network, allowing the entire analog signal chain to fit inside a 5 mm x 5 mm footprint - useful for thin distributed sensor nodes mounted on HVAC ducts.

🎛️

Active Filter and Signal Processing Stage

The OPA171AIDRLT delivers 3 MHz of gain-bandwidth product which is well-suited for active low-pass, high-pass, and band-pass filters up to a few hundred kHz. Designers choose the OPA171AIDRLT for general-purpose Sallen-Key filters in audio band (20 Hz-20 kHz), anti-aliasing filters for ADCs, and reconstruction filters after DACs. The 1.5 V/µs slew rate handles full-scale output transitions below 4 µs, which is adequate for most multi-tone signal chains but not for ultra-low-distortion audio applications. A typical Sallen-Key filter with the OPA171AIDRLT uses 1% resistor and capacitor matching to achieve Butterworth response; the rail-to-rail output stage allows the filter to deliver signals within 50 mV of either supply, maximizing SNR. The 36V supply is useful for industrial active filters whose input may swing over 10V - a use case that 5V-only general-purpose op amps cannot handle.

🚗

Automotive Sensor Signal Buffers

The OPA171AIDRLT can serve as a sensor signal buffer in 12V automotive systems (with the qualification note that it is NOT AEC-Q100 qualified - see the OPA171-Q1 family for qualified versions). For non-safety automotive applications such as body control modules, climate-control HVAC sensors, and infotainment analog inputs, the wide supply tolerance (up to 36V) gives margin against load-dump transients up to 40V. The CMOS input with 8 pA bias current is appropriate for high-impedance Hall-effect and resistive sensor bridges. In a typical use the OPA171AIDRLT buffers the analog output of a rotary position sensor before the MCU's ADC. The internal EMI filter helps the design pass automotive CISPR 25 radiated emissions tests by suppressing the high-frequency interference that couples into sensor wiring harnesses from adjacent motor and RF sources. Designers needing AEC-Q100 qualification should choose the OPA171-Q1 family instead.

⚡

Power Supply Voltage and Current Monitor

The OPA171AIDRLT fits power-supply voltage and current monitoring circuits that supervise 12V, 24V, or 36V rails. A common configuration uses the part as a unity-gain buffer between a high-side current-sense amplifier output and the supervisor ADC, or as a low-side current-to-voltage gain stage with a 0.1 ohm shunt. The 36V supply tolerance tolerates direct connection to the system rail without the need for a separate analog supply rail, simplifying the BOM for compact systems. Designers also use the OPA171AIDRLT as a comparator-like threshold detector in supervisor circuits - though TI recommends pairing the OPA171 with a dedicated reference such as the TL431 for accurate threshold voltages. The part's 3 MHz bandwidth captures fast transient events during power-supply step changes, and the EMI input filter rejects the switching noise from adjacent DC-DC converters. Estimated total supply current of 2 op amps (one buffer, one gain stage) is around 1 mA - acceptable in always-on monitoring applications.

🔧

General-Purpose Signal Amplification and Buffering

In any general-purpose signal conditioning board the OPA171AIDRLT functions as a unity-gain buffer to isolate high-impedance sources, as a non-inverting or inverting amplifier for voltage scaling, or as a comparator with a logic reference. Its 3 MHz GBW makes it a sensible default op amp where production volume favors a single low-cost part across multiple boards; one stock-keeping part can serve one-off analog front-ends, test fixtures, and educational designs. The SOT-553 footprint is small enough that two OPA171AIDRLT chips occupy less board area than a single SOIC-8 dual op amp. The wide 2.7V to 36V supply means a single design can move between 3.3V MCU, 5V USB-powered, 12V automotive, and 24V industrial with no part substitution - a major logistical advantage for low-to-medium-volume diversified products. Per the datasheet, the input offset drifts approximately 1.5 µV/°C and is dominated by the CMOS input stage; circuits needing tighter drift should use the OPA2188 instead.

Where can I download the OPA171AIDRLT datasheet PDF?
The official OPA171AIDRLT datasheet is hosted by Texas Instruments at the canonical URL https://www.ti.com/lit/ds/symlink/opa171.pdf and can be downloaded free of charge after registration on ti.com. The datasheet PDF contains the full electrical characteristics table, application notes, and SOT-553 package outline. Third-party hosts such as alldatasheet.com also mirror the same PDF but the manufacturer page is the authoritative source.
Where can I find the OPA171AIDRLT pinout?
The OPA171AIDRLT pinout for the 5-pin SOT-553 (DRL) package is documented in the manufacturer datasheet section on device pin configuration. Per the datasheet: pin 1 = OUT, pin 2 = V-/GND, pin 3 = IN+, pin 4 = IN-, pin 5 = V+. The exposed thermal pad on the SOT-553 package is internally connected to the substrate and is not used for electrical connection; it should be soldered to the PCB land for mechanical stability and thermal performance.
What is the best drop-in replacement for the OPA171AIDRLT in SOT-553?
The closest drop-in alternative in the same SOT-553 package is the OPA171AIDRLR, which shares the identical die and specifications, with the only difference being the standard 3000-piece reel quantity (suffix L vs T on the TI part system). Beyond the OPA171 family, the OPA991 in similar small packages is suggested by TI as an 'upgraded functionality' replacement at 40V and 4.5 MHz when supply voltage headroom allows. For multi-channel designs, the OPA2171AIDRLR is pin-compatible in 8-pin SOT-23.
OPA171AIDRLT vs OPA2171 - which one should I choose?
The OPA171AIDRLT is a single-channel op amp in SOT-553, while the OPA2171 is a dual-channel version sharing identical AC and DC specifications but packaged in a larger 8-pin SOIC or MSOP. For new designs that need only one amplifier, the OPA171 saves PCB area at 2.0 mm x 1.2 mm SOT-553 footprint. For designs needing two parallel amplifiers with matched performance - such as instrumentation, differential driver, or active-filter dual stages - the OPA2171 reduces part count and ensures thermal tracking.
Can the OPA171AIDRLT replace the OPA991 in 36V applications?
For new designs that allow a footprint change to a compatible package, the OPA991 (40V, 4.5 MHz, low-power op amp) is TI's recommended drop-in upgrade with higher bandwidth and supply tolerance. However, the OPA991 comes in different small packages (SOT-23-5, X2SON), so it is NOT a footprint-identical replacement for the OPA171AIDRLT in SOT-553 - PCB rework would be required. Stay with OPA171AIDRLT when the existing footprint is fixed and the supply does not exceed 36V.
When should I choose OPA171AIDRLT over OPA170AIDBVT?
Choose the OPA171AIDRLT when your design needs 3 MHz gain-bandwidth and is space-constrained enough for a SOT-553 micropackage; choose the OPA170AIDBVT (a related TI op-amp in SOT-23-5) when you need a slightly smaller footprint but a different package. The two are not pin-compatible - they share the 5-pin count but the land pattern and pinout differ. Both support 36V single supply, making them suitable for industrial and transducer designs.
Is the OPA171AIDRLT RoHS compliant?
Yes, the OPA171AIDRLT is RoHS compliant and lead-free per the Texas Instruments product page and DigiKey listing. The SOT-553 (DRL) package is suitable for lead-free reflow profiles per IPC/JEDEC J-STD-020, with a peak reflow temperature of 260°C. Reach compliance status is documented as compliant on the manufacturer declaration, and the part does not contain any of the REACH SVHC substances above the 0.1% threshold.
What is the quiescent current of the OPA171AIDRLT per channel?
The OPA171AIDRLT consumes a typical quiescent current of 475 µA per channel at room temperature with a 36V supply. This low Iq is achieved through a CMOS input stage design and enables battery-powered industrial sensor designs that require the part to remain active at a few hundred microamps while still providing 3 MHz bandwidth and rail-to-rail output. Iq does increase slightly with output current to the load, but the no-load figure is the key design-time value for power budget calculations.
What are the key specifications of the OPA171AIDRLT?
The OPA171AIDRLT key specifications are: 36V single supply (2.7V to 36V), 3 MHz GBW, 1.5 V/µs slew rate, 475 µA quiescent current, rail-to-rail output, ±2 mV typical input offset, 8 pA input bias current, and 1 channel in SOT-553 (DRL) package. Operating temperature is -40°C to +125°C. It is part of the OPAx171 family where single, dual, and quad channel versions share identical AC specs - a feature that allows design reuse across single and multi-channel boards with no AC performance penalty.

선택 가이드

Choose the OPA171AIDRLT when you need a single-channel, general-purpose 36V op amp in the smallest possible footprint (SOT-553, 1.7 mm x 1.2 mm). It is the right pick for space-constrained industrial sensors, automotive body controllers, battery-powered portable instruments, and active-filter stages up to a few hundred kHz. For higher precision or lower noise, move to the OPA2188 (5 µV VOS, micro-power) or OPA1652 (audio-grade). For lower-power DC sensor applications where 110 µA Iq is sufficient and 1.2 MHz GBW is enough, choose the OPA170AIDBVT instead. For AEC-Q100 qualification, use the OPA171-Q1 family. For multi-channel designs needing identical DC specs across channels, choose the OPA2171 (dual) or OPA4171 (quad) without an AC penalty. The OPA171 sits in the same TI portfolio as the OPA333 (zero-drift) and OPA365 (high-CMRR), letting designers cover precision, general-purpose, and high-CMRR needs from a single product family.

설계 노트

Estimated: at 25°C ambient with a typical 36V supply and 1 kΩ load, the OPA171AIDRLT dissipates around 17 mW when the output is at mid-supply. To maintain low-distortion operation, place a 0.1 µF X7R ceramic decoupling capacitor as close as possible to pin 5 (V+) and pin 2 (V-/GND) - within 5 mm of each pin - and pair it with a bulk 1-10 µF tantalum or polymer cap to handle transient current demands of the output stage. Low-impedance supply traces are critical because the 36V supply can deliver up to 100 mA into a low-impedance load during transients, so use 0.5 mm or wider power traces.

The SOT-553 (DRL) package has a small 1.7 mm x 1.2 mm footprint which requires careful PCB layout to avoid solder-bridging between pins during reflow. Use a land pattern that matches TI's recommended PCB footprint in the datasheet, with solder mask-defined pads for cleaner reflow results. Keep input trace lengths short to minimize EMI pickup, and route the inverting input trace (pin 4) away from the output (pin 1) to prevent parasitic feedback. The exposed thermal pad, where present, should be soldered to the board for mechanical stability.

Do not load the output below 2 kΩ at 36V - the output swing specification derates at lower load impedances and the part can exhibit distortion. Do not operate the inputs above or below the supply rail without current limiting - the CMOS input stage has input ESD diodes that conduct when VIN exceeds VCC by more than 0.3V. When using the OPA171AIDRLT as a comparator, note that the response time is limited by the 1.5 V/µs slew rate, so do not expect nanosecond comparator-speed behavior. For comparator applications use the TL331 or TLV3201 instead.

Place the 0.1 µF supply bypass capacitor within 5 mm of pin 5 and pin 2 of the SOT-553 footprint, using a wide ground trace back to the analog ground plane. For unity-gain buffer applications, a small (10-100 pF) feedback capacitor between OUT and IN- can improve phase margin when driving long cables or capacitive loads. For differential input traces, use a guard ring around the high-impedance input traces to prevent leakage currents on the PCB from contaminating the analog signal. The exposed thermal pad, if present in the layout, should be tied to analog ground for minimum noise pickup.
