Typical Applications
ISO7830DW is suitable for 6 applications: Industrial Motor Drives, Isolated SPI/UART Interfaces, Power Converters, Automotive Systems, Medical Equipment, Communication Infrastructure.
Industrial Motor Drives
The ISO7830DW provides reinforced isolation for gate driver signals and feedback in motor drives. Its 8000-VPK isolation and 100 kV/us CMTI ensure reliable operation in high-voltage, noisy environments. The 100 Mbps data rate supports fast PWM control signals, while the wide supply range (2.25-5.5 V) interfaces with both 3.3 V and 5 V logic. Placed between the microcontroller and gate driver, it prevents ground loops and protects low-voltage control circuitry from high-voltage transients.
Recommended
Isolated SPI/UART Interfaces
The ISO7830DW is ideal for isolating SPI or UART communication between systems with different ground potentials. Its 3 forward channels accommodate MOSI, SCLK, and CS signals, while the high data rate (100 Mbps) supports fast serial communication. The low propagation delay (10.7 ns) minimizes latency in time-sensitive protocols. With reinforced isolation, it ensures safe data transfer in industrial sensors, PLCs, and medical devices where ground potential differences can exceed hundreds of volts.
Recommended
Power Converters
In power converters, the ISO7830DW isolates control signals from high-voltage power stages. Its 8000-VPK reinforced isolation meets safety requirements for AC-DC and DC-DC converters. The high CMTI (100 kV/us) prevents false triggering during fast switching transients, ensuring stable operation. The device's low power consumption (1.5 mA per channel) is beneficial for efficiency, and the wide supply range allows direct interface with PWM controllers. It is commonly used in photovoltaic inverters and EV chargers.
Recommended
Automotive Systems
The ISO7830DW is suitable for automotive applications such as battery management systems (BMS) and on-board chargers. Its reinforced isolation (8000 VPK) and wide temperature range (-40Β°C to +125Β°C) meet automotive requirements. The high CMTI ensures reliable communication in the presence of electromagnetic interference from motors and inverters. The device's small SOIC-16 package saves board space, and its low power consumption supports energy-efficient designs. It is often used to isolate CAN or SPI signals between battery cells and the main controller.
Recommended
Medical Equipment
The ISO7830DW provides reinforced isolation for patient monitoring and diagnostic equipment, ensuring safety and signal integrity. Its 8000-VPK isolation rating meets stringent medical safety standards, while the low leakage current and high CMTI prevent interference from electrosurgical units. The device's wide supply range and low power consumption are ideal for battery-powered portable devices. It is used to isolate sensor signals, such as ECG or SpO2, from the processing unit, protecting patients from electric shock.
Recommended
Communication Infrastructure
In communication systems, the ISO7830DW isolates control and data lines between line cards and backplanes. Its high data rate (100 Mbps) supports fast signaling, and the reinforced isolation protects against lightning surges and ground potential differences. The device's low propagation delay (10.7 ns) is critical for maintaining timing in synchronous systems. With certifications to VDE, CSA, and TUV, it meets telecom safety standards. It is commonly used in base stations, routers, and switches.

Key Differentiators
- Reinforced isolation rating of 8000 VPK (vs ADuM340E)
- Fail-safe output state (low) (vs ISO7830FDW)
- 3-channel configuration optimized for SPI (vs ISO7831DW)
Design Notes
For reinforced isolation, maintain at least 14.5 mm creepage and clearance between the high-voltage and low-voltage sides on the PCB. Use a slot or cutout under the isolator to increase the surface distance. Place decoupling capacitors (0.1 uF) close to VCC1 and VCC2 pins, and use a solid ground plane on each side to minimize noise coupling.
The ISO7830DW consumes low power, but ensure the supply voltage is within 2.25-5.5 V on both sides. Use separate LDOs for VCC1 and VCC2 if the input and output sides have different voltage levels. Bypass each supply pin with a 0.1 uF ceramic capacitor and a 10 uF bulk capacitor to handle transient currents.
Do not exceed the absolute maximum ratings, especially the isolation voltage (8000 VPK) and supply voltage (5.5 V). Ensure the input signals do not exceed VCC1 or go below GND1. When using the fail-safe output, note that ISO7830DW defaults to low; if a high default is needed, use ISO7830FDW instead.
