PIC16LF15376-I/PT Visão geral

The Microchip PIC16LF15376-I/PT is an 8-bit PIC® XLP™ 16F microcontroller integrating 28KB (16K x 14 words) of Flash program memory, 2048 bytes of SRAM, and a 32MHz internal oscillator, housed in a 44-pin TQFP package (10x10 mm). The LF (low-power F) variant operates across a wide 1.8V to 3.6V supply range and is built on Microchip's eXtreme Low-Power (XLP) technology platform, with a typical active current below 100 µA/MHz and sleep currents in the nanoampere range.

An 8-bit microcontroller (MCU) is a single-chip computer built around an 8-bit data path, optimized for deterministic, low-power, cost-sensitive embedded control. The PIC16 family sits in the hierarchy: 8-bit MCU -> RISC microcontroller -> embedded controller -> semiconductor. PIC16F devices execute most instructions in a single clock cycle thanks to a Harvard RISC core, giving them deterministic real-time behavior well suited to consumer, industrial, and IoT applications.

Key features of the PIC16LF15376 include four 10-bit PWM channels, a 10-bit ADC, a 5-bit/8-bit DAC, two comparators, a Complementary Waveform Generator (CWG), two EUSART modules, and SPI/I²C peripherals. The device also incorporates Core Independent Peripherals (CIPs) such as the CWG, Configurable Logic Cells (CLC), and Numerically Controlled Oscillator (NCO) that run without CPU intervention, reducing firmware complexity and active power.

Typical applications span low-power IoT sensor nodes, battery-powered industrial sensors, home automation controllers, LED lighting drivers, and consumer appliances. The 44-pin TQFP package offers generous I/O for applications that need more GPIO than 28- or 40-pin cousins in the family. A 40-pin PDIP variant (PIC16LF15376-I/P) is also available for through-hole prototypes.

When designing with this MCU, keep VDD between 1.8V and 3.6V and use the internal 32MHz HFINTOSC for most designs to minimize external components and BOM cost. A low-voltage ICSP™ programming interface and a debug header should be reserved on the PCB for in-circuit firmware updates.

🧩

Battery-Powered IoT Sensor Nodes

The PIC16LF15376-I/PT is an excellent fit for battery-powered IoT sensor nodes thanks to its 1.8-3.6 V supply range and eXtreme Low-Power (XLP) architecture, with sleep currents in the nanoampere range and active current below 100 µA/MHz. The 28 KB Flash accommodates a small RTOS or sensor-fusion firmware, while the 2 KB SRAM supports modest buffering of environmental data. The two EUSARTs allow simultaneous connection to a sensor front-end and a Bluetooth Low Energy module via SPI/UART, while the CWG and NCO peripherals offload waveform generation from the CPU, further reducing average power. This combination delivers multi-year coin-cell life for periodic-transmission wireless sensor applications.

🏭

Industrial 4-20 mA Sensor Transmitters

For two-wire 4-20 mA industrial transmitters, the PIC16LF15376-I/PT's 10-bit ADC with internal reference, two op-amp-style comparators, and 5/8-bit DAC enable direct conditioning of bridge or RTD sensor signals. The integrated CWG can drive an H-bridge or solenoid PWM output for proportional valve control. The wide 1.8-3.6 V range allows direct regulation from a 24 V loop via a linear regulator, simplifying the analog front-end. AEC-grade reliability, -40 to +85 °C industrial temperature range, and Microchip's longevity program for the PIC16 family make it well suited to long-life industrial instrumentation that must operate in the field for 15+ years.

💡

Home Automation Lighting Controllers

In home automation and smart-lighting controllers, the PIC16LF15376-I/PT provides four 10-bit PWM channels that drive LED dimmers or smart-bulb color-mixing stages directly via MOSFET gate drivers. The CWG module generates complementary PWM with dead-time insertion for half-bridge LED drivers, eliminating software timing jitter. The 44-pin TQFP provides enough GPIO to manage multiple switch inputs, capacitive touch pads, and a UART/I²C link to a wireless module (Zigbee, Thread, or BLE). On-chip EEPROM emulation via Flash self-write stores user preferences such as dim levels and color temperatures. Sleep currents under 1 µA support battery-backed wireless wall switches.

Portable Medical Monitoring Accessories

In portable medical accessories such as pulse-oximeter dongles, nebulizer controllers, and Bluetooth-connected thermometers, the PIC16LF15376-I/PT's low active current extends battery life during continuous pulse-oximetry or temperature sampling. The 10-bit ADC digitizes photodiode or thermistor signals, while the on-chip DAC drives an LED bias network. The integrated EUSART interfaces to a Bluetooth LE module streaming data to a phone or tablet. Although not AEC-Q100 qualified, the LF part meets IEC 61000-4-2 ESD requirements with proper PCB layout, and the -40 to +85 °C industrial temperature range covers most home-use medical scenarios.

🚗

Automotive Aftermarket Accessories

For automotive aftermarket accessories such as cabin lighting controllers, OBD-II diagnostic dongles, and auxiliary sensor modules, the PIC16LF15376-I/PT offers sufficient GPIO and PWM channels in a 44-TQFP package at sub-$2 price points. Note that the LF part is industrial-grade (-40 to +85 °C), not AEC-Q100 qualified; for under-hood or safety-critical applications step up to PIC18F K-series or dsPIC33 AEC-Q100 parts. The two EUSART modules handle OBD-II ISO 9141 / K-Line protocols and a Bluetooth module, while the CWG drives LED strips or auxiliary pumps. Automotive-grade reliability is achieved through careful external protection (TVS diodes, reverse-polarity MOSFETs) on the supply and signal lines.

What is the program memory size of PIC16LF15376-I/PT?
The PIC16LF15376-I/PT integrates 28 KB (16K x 14 words) of Flash program memory. According to the Microchip datasheet, this is sufficient for typical embedded control firmware that includes a USB or BLE stack via SPI, sensor drivers, and a small RTOS. The 2048 bytes of SRAM on-chip support modest data buffers; external EEPROM via I²C is recommended for non-volatile parameter storage beyond the Flash self-write area.
What is the operating voltage range of PIC16LF15376-I/PT?
The PIC16LF15376-I/PT operates from 1.8 V to 3.6 V on VDD. This wide low-voltage range, combined with the LF (low-power F) silicon process, makes the part suitable for direct 2xAA, 3xAA, or single-cell Li-ion battery operation without a boost converter. Designers should still add a 100 nF decoupling capacitor close to each VDD/AVDD pin and a bulk 10 µF capacitor near the IC.
What package does the PIC16LF15376-I/PT use?
The PIC16LF15376-I/PT ships in a 44-pin TQFP (Thin Quad Flat Pack) measuring 10x10 mm with 0.8 mm pitch. This is the largest package in the PIC16LF153xx family, providing the highest GPIO count. A 40-pin PDIP variant (PIC16LF15376-I/P) and 28/40-pin QFN variants are available in the same silicon family for different board-density requirements.
How fast is the PIC16LF15376-I/PT CPU?

Notas de projeto

Decouple VDD with a 100 nF X7R ceramic capacitor placed within 3 mm of each VDD/VSS pair, plus a single 10 µF X5R bulk capacitor near the IC. The TQFP package has multiple VDD/VSS pins (typically 4 of each) - connect every one of them. For battery-powered designs, use the on-chip LFINTOSC at 31 kHz for sleep mode and switch to HFINTOSC only when active processing is required; this typically reduces average current to <2 µA for periodic sensor read-and-transmit duty cycles.

Estimated: in a 4-layer PCB with continuous ground plane beneath the TQFP, loop inductance of VDD/VSS pairs is held below 1 nH, which is adequate for the 32 MHz HFINTOSC. Avoid routing high-speed signals (SPI clock, PWM outputs) under the IC. Place the ICSP header (5-pin RJ-11 or 0.1" header) on a board edge with direct traces to ICSPCLK/RB6 and ICSPDAT/RB5; do not share these pins with high-current loads if in-circuit programming will be used in production.

Do not exceed the absolute maximum VDD of 4.0 V (LF variant); transients above this latch-up the IC. Configure unused GPIO as outputs driving low rather than inputs to prevent floating-pin shoot-through current. When migrating firmware between LF and F variants, verify that the system VDD rail respects the LF's 1.8 V minimum or the F's 2.3 V minimum - otherwise Brown-Out Reset (BOR) will trigger continuously.

At maximum CPU activity (32 MHz, all peripherals active, 3.6 V), power dissipation is below 25 mW. With theta_JA of approximately 50 °C/W for the 44-TQFP, junction temperature rise above ambient is ~1.3 °C - no heatsinking required. In enclosed housings with no airflow, ensure ambient temperature stays below 80 °C to keep Tj below the 125 °C maximum recommended for non-automotive grade silicon.
